5 Awards to Celebrate
5 edition of the Prix de la Danse de Montréal

City of Montreal joins forces with GRAND PRIX de la danse.
Second new award created this year.
Montreal, 2 November 2015 –IthasbeenayearrichincollaborationsandawardsforthePRIXDELA
DANSEDEMONTRÉAL(PDM),currentlycelebratingits5thanniversaryunderhonorarypresidentDanièle
Henkel.TheCityofMontreal,whichwillbehostingtheawardsevent,hasjoinedforceswithQuébecor
to increase the prize money that comes with the prestigious GRAND PRIX de la Danse de Montréal.
Moreover,theConseildesartswillbeofferinganewawardthisyear,thePrixdelaDiversitéculturelle
en danse. The latter is the second new prize established this year, after the Prix DÉCOUVERTE de la
dansedeMontréal,presentedbyAgoradeladanseandTangente.Atotalof5awardswillbedistributed
duringthe5thanniversarycelebrationstakingplaceonNovember19at11a.m.atMontrealCityHall.
Established in 2011 by the choreographer Marie Chouinard, president of the PRIX DE LA DANSE DE
MONTRÉAL,theeventisanoccasionnotonlytoapplaudtheexcellenceofdanceartistswhoperformed
on Montreal stages between July 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015, but also to reaffirm the dynamism of
Montrealasadancecapitalandpromoteitsinternationalreputation.

TheGRANDPRIXdeladansedeMontréal,presentedbytheCityofMontrealandQuébecor,comeswith
aprize of $22,500.Thisinternationalawardhonoursanartistfortheexceptionalqualityofhisorher
work,aswellastheartist’srigour,originalityandcommitmentthatinspirebothotherdancersandfans
ofcontemporarydance.TheAwardisgiventoanartist(choreographerordancer)fromCanadaorfrom
abroad.

AnewawardthisyearisthePrixDÉCOUVERTEdeladansedeMontréal,presentedbyAgoradeladanse
andTangente.Itcomeswithaprizeof$5000andwillbeawardedtoanexemplaryemergingartist.This
new award pays tribute to a Quebec choreographer, dancer or a collaborator (in lighting, sound, set
design,etc.)whostandsoutasarevelationwithinthedancemilieu.

Createdin2014,thePrixINTERPRÈTE,presentedbytheRegroupementquébécoisdeladanseandthe
CaissedelaCulture,comeswithaprizeof$10,000andwillbeawardedtoaQuebecartistrenownedfor
thequalityofhisorherperformance,rigorousartisticapproach,disciplineandcommitmenttocreating
newdanceworks.Thefirstrecipientofthisawardin2014wasCarolPrieur.
PrixduCALQpourlameilleureœuvrechorégraphique
Createdin2012bytheConseildesartsetdeslettresduQuébec(CALQ),thisawardcomeswithaprize
of$10,000andisawardedtoachoreographerfortheartisticexcellenceofaworkpresentedinQuebec
forthefirsttimein2014-15.Ingrantingthisaward,CALQwishestocontributetothedevelopmentof
dance by highlighting Quebec choreographers whose dance pieces stand out for their remarkable
quality.ThewinnerischosenbyajuryofdanceprofessionalsestablishedbyCALQ.

during the course of the previous season. A jury established by the Conseil des arts de Montréal will

andchoreographer).Morethan100dancepiecesfromhereandelsewhereareunderconsideration,a
clearindicatorofthevitalityofdanceinMontreal.
