Perspectives on La danse sur les routes du Québec In the early 90’s, most of our great choreographers presented theirs shows in Montreal and Quebec City, and then flew to other continents. Started by Regroupement québécois de la danse in 1997, La danse sur les routes du Québec (DSR) ensures the presence of dance in tens of cities across the province today and gives thousands of citizens access to it. Since it was founded, DSR and its network of partners have brought forth more than 1,400 dance performances and 2,400 discovery activities. Both also made dance accessible to 950,000 people and generated 5.3 million dollars in artist fees for companies and artists. Among other actions that La danse sur les routes establishes to fulfill its mission, DSR designs and organizes Parcours Danse, a major event that allows dance and distribution communities to meet. 2 For three decades, Quebec has distinguished itself worldwide by the excellence of its dance creations. This is why, since 1997, La danse sur les routes du Québec makes sure that citizens of the province also have access to this fabulous art form. Today, we can celebrate dance displays in tens of cities: in venues, public spaces, on the screen, and many more. Festivals that are dedicated to dance come to life, and artists allow thousands of citizens to experience unforgettable performances. Dance distribution is booming in Quebec, and Parcours Danse has clearly been playing a centre part by offering a meeting opportunity to artists, producers and presenters from Quebec, Canada and, for the first time this year, abroad. If Parcours Danse has reached such stature in 2015, it is thanks to the exceptional solidarity among artists and collaborators, who share their expertise, open theirs doors and help support its realization. Thus, it is on their behalf that I invite you to enjoy this rich program that includes nothing less than 130 artists and 80 presenters, from 60 cities worldwide, along with several players of the artistic community, all that in ten locations of the metropolis. Throughout the choreography, bodies collide with bad weather. Inspired by the mysterious power of nature, Ravages is an ever-changing scenery where bodies take part in the great cycles of life and the word. Based in Quebec City, Alan Lake Factori(e) is a multidisciplinary contemporary dance company that rests on Alan Lake, choreographer, dancer, director and visual arts artist. His approach can be divided into three fields of research: dance, film and visual arts. With the passing of time, the evocation of the cycle of life and death has become a major thread running through his whole process. There is some physicality, rhythm and accumulation of images unique to MAYDAY that becomes resolved when meeting with the audience. Since it was founded in 2007, MAYDAY has been used as a platform to exchange ideas and reflections with the artists that surround Mélanie Demers. They come from Montreal, the company’s home base, or abroad and are as dazzling as they are eclectic. A four-dancer dialogue created in collaboration with playwright Gervais Gaudreault, the work deals with the themes intimidation and intolerance at the heart of teenage life ruled by social media, with humour and sensibility. Through martial arts, contemporary and Indian dance, Sinha Danse contributes to foster awareness among young people, families and school communities.
