Report geese
Penticton starting in October and nests to
the region
In a continued effort to
control the Canada Goose
population, the Okanagan
Valley Goose Management
Program has begun its annual
egg addling program. Now in
its eighth year, this program
has prevented the exponential
increase of the non-migratory
resident goose population that
inhabits the valley year round.
The bags are packed and
countdown is on: The City of
Penticton is on its way after WestJet
Encore announced today that a new
non-stop Calgary and Penticton
connection will begin in October.
South Okanagan’s strong custom
manufacturing sector serves the
world, and its Canadian market is
concentrated in northern Alberta,
Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The
new eastern flight will reduce the
time required to get to Calgary by
at least two hours, making it faster
for business travellers or oil-patch
workers to return home.
The Penticton Regional Airport
(YYF) was selected by the Calgarybased airline as part of its regional
carrier expansion program. Nonstop service on Bombardier Q400 Tourism operators and event

The Okanagan Valley Goose
Management program works to
control the reproductive output
of Canada geese, particularly
in public spaces. Trained
contractors identify mating
pairs and nesting sites and will
complete the addling program
by the end of May.
Most communities in the
Okanagan Valley struggle with
management of these nonmigratory Canada Geese. They
adapted, thriving in the mild
Okanagan climate. As a result,
the number of geese has grown
with few natural controls,
creating a need to manage this
population.
Key to the success of the
program is finding the new
nests. The public is asked to
assist by reporting lone geese,
pairs of geese or nest locations
on private or public land
by emailing coordinator@
okanagangooseplan.com or
calling 1-877-943-3209. The
public is also asked to keep
away from goose nests and to
avoid touching the eggs.

Spotlight: Box Office Graphics
It is often the lifestyle that draws
business people to Penticton. That
was the case for Doug Howard and
Linda Downey, who visited the area
and decided to move their Ontariobased business to Penticton in 2013.
Located in the 100 block of Main
Street, Box Office Graphics produces
labels onto rigid containers. They
design and create the products
needed to print on plastics.
They also purchased the local
Summit Screenprinting Supplies
– a complementary business that
provides the supplies like specialty
ink needed for their businesses.
Their secret to success? Focusing
on the basics: connecting with
customers, expanding product
availability, improving service and
online presences and expanding
the markets.
