Her pop surrealist paintings were featured in the 2012 release of “Goblin Market: Irish New Contemporary Art”. Her women are contemporary icons of modern femininity, captured in moments of intense emotion or revelation, sometimes in fantastic backdrops of surreal dreamscapes or familiar locations where the observer can recognise their own daily routine. Working mainly in oils, her work is vibrant and bold, and this exhibition of her paintings, miniature metal sculptures, and custom dolls will show the fruits of TÍReless dedication and persistence. The first series theme is energy, as depicted both by the paint and subject matter. We are two recent graduates from Gray’s School of Art in the north east of Scotland. Our work stems from notions of migration, identity, places and non-places. The second is a series of small paintings depicting the play of light on Galway people as they shop/walk. The paintings are lively and eye catching ranging from very small to large in size. Fiona is a graduate of G.M.I.T. Using various imagery both found and photographed we individually manipulate photographic documentation of places at the edge both physical and emotional. Using various tools within printmaking and digital media we each are constructing a vagueness and detachment within our imagery which echoes the psychology of these places. Though non collaborative in nature, our work exists on the same road delving into the isolation and restlessness of modernity. We now wish to showcase our work in the context of returning home to Ireland. The relic and now almost redundant, obsolete, and totally unfamiliar HIP BATH evokes the weekly ritual of Saturday evening bath time we had grown up with. This series of artworks is compiled by a group of artists working from Loom studios in Dublin. All the artists exhibiting work in various mediums such as, painting, sculpture, ceramics, drawing, and mixed media. I am an Artist and Jewellery maker with a BA Honours Fine & Applied Art Degree from the University of Ulster (2009), and HND Fine Art, NWIFHE, Derry (2007). VALERIE JOYCE LOUISE SPOKES LOOM STUDIOS The objective of the exhibition is to showcase the diversity of work of each artist working from an independent Dublin based studio. HIP BATH ablutions were keenly administered as a vigorously inflicted rite of passage in order to attain godliness and sanctity. Joyce’s performance is a slap-stick comedic aspiration for spiritually hygienic absolution. HIP BATH asks; Is cleanliness next to godliness? I love creating ‘happy art’ using acrylics, ink, fabric, vintage findings and recycled materials. I am passionate about fairies, hears, birds and cute whimsical girls. The Birds is a collection of images of birds, mostly in flight. I aim to portray both a sense of beauty and darkness where reality can be distorted creating a surreal, dreamlike mood. SYLWIA GRYCZUK THE LAST TEN MINUTES OF BRAVEHEART VANESSA JORDAN I am concerned with the perception of reality and the distortion /embellishment of the truth. Mairead Manifold, a student of Digital Media at NUIG has created a digital tree guide to 75 trees around the Quad in NUIG. QR codes are placed on the trees. Users simply scan a QR code to access tree details. The May 30, 2013 is a looped video archive made of individual photographs of everything my husband and I own. One object, one frame, 24 frames per second. Mairead has been photographing the trees over the winter, so users can view a timeline of photos taken through the seasons. The Quad area is home to over 50 different varieties of trees, some of which are redwoods. So go for a tree walk with a difference. The photographs were taken over the course of one day; the light cycle charts the day passing. It makes the private public and the tangible digital. He is a singer-songwriter based in Brighton with a background in theatre and stand-up comedy, doing a show based on numbers from his forth coming album, as well as older numbers from comedy days and random covers. In their music, Relatives blend the dissonant tonalities of 20th century music with the unadorned folk songs of Appalachia. The group was created in New York City in the fall of 2007 by Ian Davis, Katie Vogel and Gabriel Gall. Fia Rua, Pearse McGloughlin, Enda Reilly and Justin Grounds. Urchin Collective is a movement of independent musicians based in Ireland operating in the genres of avant garde electronic, folk, Irish language, trad, alternative and indie. Together they self-released two EPs, They Love You Well (2009) and Tardy Mark (2011) as well as a full-length album entitled The Relatives (2011), released on the Museum People label. In the fall of 2011, Gall left the group but Relatives has continued to write and perform as a duo. Their forthcoming albums include a self-released, full-band EP as well as a stripped down, duo EP to be released in Ireland on the MDR label. The collective was formed following an impromptu gig at Electric Picnic 2012 and officially launched in March 2013 with gigs in Dublin and Cork. They now bring the show west with a special Citog/Galway Fringe Festival event in The Cellar Bar. A one-man show exploring the life of Belfast-born literary figure Louis MacNeice who is portrayed mulling over his life in 1963, the year of his untimely death aged only 55. Known mainly for his poetry and the radio plays he wrote in London for the BBC, he is shown here during his last few months in a conjectural piece drawing on his writings and memories of friends. MacNeice left his childhood behind to go to England, working for the BBC in London. His parents hailed from Connemara while he regarded Dublin as ‘home from home’, so why did he pen the line ‘This was never my town...’? Known to all as ‘Freddy’, why did he announce just before leaving school that he wanted to be called Louis (his middle name) from then on? Howard Linnane considers possible answers. Set in the west of Ireland, this story deals with the difficulty of communication and how a family copes with unconfronted issues, past and present. John returns home from abroad on a surprise visit, only to discover some surprises awaiting him: a troubled sister, ageing parents and different ways of dealing with reality. ORION’S BELT THEATRE HOWARD LINNANE An insane, fast-paced, quirky comedy set in 80’s America about a bizarre dinner date between a lonely woman, Prudence, and an eccentric striaght-talkin’ man, Bruce, who has a jealous lover, Bob. NANZIKAMBE ARTS/ THEATRE KONSTANZ PRODUCTION MURDER ON THE MENU Kavanagh’s epic masterpiece set in rural Co. Monaghan, concerns the life and struggles of anti-hero and small farmer Patrick Maguire. As both a seasoned performer and a Monaghan native, Peter has a natural feel for the language, people and sensibility of the text. It will feel like three friends got together over the weekend and devised a show to entertain their other friends. ‘This Happened in the City Jail (The Story of Hansel and Gretel)’ is a contemporised version of the original fairytale which upends itself with a massive twist in it’s tail. Reasonably tight dances and movements tell wordless stories. Recurring characters such as the incorrigible “Murphy” make an appearance, as do the distinctive comedy voices of the three individual friends, Tom, Dick and Martin. Think Tim and Eric plus one other one, minus the brains. It is very post-modern in construction and has been part inspired by the author working with the prisoners in Mountjoy Jail. We all know the story, but this play doesn’t take place fadó fadó, rather Dublin, December 2012. Lively, funny, sparkling, sensitive, delirious, this musical is about love and friendship. It also explores intergenerational relationships: between young people and parents, young people and teachers, young people between themselves. A kind of immersion into the heart of the youth nowadays, in all its complexity. Sukitheatre presents Towerblock Angel by Ciarán Coogan. Gabriel was the right hand man, translated the word, appeared to the people. The word of the boss, the big man, up in the sky, top of the tower block. Ruled with an iron hand, the Lord. EMBELLIES THÉATRE - LA PETITE FAMILLE JUST FRIENDS It’s been three months since Oisín fell for Niamh and followed her over to London.
