Solid Fuel Boiler Plants
Boiler system for biomass and other solid fuel with grate firing
Given the high cost of primary energy sources such as gas and/ or oil and the increasing
requirement for low CO2 emissions, biomass has developed into an important and highly versatile
source of energy in Europe in recent years.
Fuel
Wood chips, bark, sawdust, landscape conservation material, biogenous residues, peat, waste wood
Performance range
Steam parameter 15-55 t/ h per line, 40-130 bar, 400-520 °C
Firing technology
?
Air- or water-cooled reciprocating grate
?
Feeding by a fuel pusher or rotary feeder
?
The primary air is controlled in all 5 zones
unterneath the grate. The secondary air is added with a high
impulse at the entrance to the radiation chamber. The combustion air is preheated to max. 250°C,
depending on the requirements of the fuel.
?
Recirculated flue gas is added unterneath and above the grate to optimise the combustion process.
?
The combustion chamber walls are water cooled membrane walls with refractory lining.
Boiler technology
?
Natural circulation boiler with a
large combustion chamber, second pass as radiation pass, third pass with
the convective heating surfaces and fourth pass with economiser heating surfaces.
?
The S.H. temperature is controlled by using spray attemporater arranged between the individual
superheater stages.
?
The heating surfaces are cleaned with sootblower and/or a shot ball cleaning system.
Flue Gas treatment
?
Pre-separation with double or multi cyclone
?
Electrostatic precipitator or textile filter, depending on fuel and emission regulation. The separation of
toxic substances from the exhaust gas is done by dry sorption.
?
NOx reduction with SNCR process (in the raditation chamber)

Boiler system with fluidised bed for biomass and other solid fuel
Fluidised bed boiler systems for biomass represent a technological enhancement of grate boiler
systems. The greater flexibility in the use of fuels with regard to their heating values and the
lower achievable emission values are clear advantages of the fluidised bed.
Fuel
Wood chips, bark, sawdust, landscape conservation material, biogenous residues, peat, waste wood
Performance range
Steam parameter 5-80 t/h per line, 40-130 bar, 400-520 °C
Firing technology
?
Atmospheric fluidised bed, boiler integrated, with open nozzle tray
?
Feeding by screw conveyor and fuel shute
?
The fluidisation is done with a mixture of combustion air and recirculated flue gas.
?
Secondary air and recirculated flue gas is fed stagged and temperature-controlled
chamber. The combustion air is heated to the requirements of the fuel.
?
The ignition and auxiliary burners are arranged above the freeboard
to the combustion.
Boiler technology
?
Natural circulation
boiler with temperature optimised combustion chamber, downstream radiation
and convection passes with the convective heating surfaces and economiser pass.
?
The S.H. temperature is controlled by using spray attemporators arranged between the individual
superheater stages.
?
The heating surfaces are cleaned with sootblower and/or a shot ball cleaning system.
Flue Gas treatment
cleaning procedures are used, depending on the fuel and emission regulation. The
separation of toxic substances from the exhaust gas is done by a sorption.

Boiler system with travelling grate firing for coal
Coal is one of the world's main sources of energy used for generating electricity. The combination
of coal as a traditional fuel with the modern industrial furnace technology perfected and tested
by BERTSCHenergy produces boiler systems that meet and even exceed our customers'
requirements.
Fuel
Bituminous coal, lignite
Performance range
Steam parameter up to 80 t/h per line, 130 bar, 540 °C
Firing technology

Primary air is supplied controlled unterneath the grate. The secondary air is added at the entrance t o
radiation chamber.
