In this age of comparison shopping, where consumers are urged to “check out” everything from automobiles to zoos, we at Hampton Beach New Hampshire are absolutely willing to put it on the line for value-minded tourists who want to have a great vacation that won’t break the bank. In the sixty-four pages herein, you will find everything you need to know about Hampton Beach and its jampacked events and added value amenities. If you have not been to Hampton Beach in a while, then you will be doubly pleased by the new 14.5 million dollar improvements, including the new Sea Shell Stage, easier access to the beach, new family-friendly bathhouses, and many other features. Of course, you can still count on over eighty traditional free nightly concerts on the Hampton Beach Sea Shell Stage, and spectacular fireworks every week and on holidays to delight young and old. Not to mention the world famous Hampton Beach Master Sand Sculpting Competition, the week-long Children’s Festival, and the 25th Anniversary of the annual Hampton Beach Seafood Festival. We are partial to the new sailfish street signs from “A” to “M”, 11 in all. You might notice there is no “E” Street, because it would run through the center of the Hampton Beach Casino and into the Sea Shell Stage. Our information center is right at the corner of “F” Street Sailfish, where we will be pleased to assist you in any way to make your stay a pleasant one. Please drop in any time to pick up information on lodgings, restaurants, and event schedules. We also have NH Lottery Tickets available and a ATM machine for your convenience. Free entertainment graces the gorgeous new Seashell Stage complex starting Memorial Day weekend, and June weekends before going nightly from June 20th to the end of August. From country to jazz, big band to rock & roll, classic sounds of the 60’s or the next new musical sensation, only the very best talent graces the Seashell Stage for two free concerts every evening from 7:00 to 8:00 and 8:30 to 9:30. Don’t miss Hampton Beach’s own music sensation, The Continentals, and other favorites, like Eastern Sound, HELP!, and more! ■■Free Nightly Entertainment Then there are the spectacular fireworks that start lighting up the summer night skies every Wednesday starting at 9:30 pm, weather permitting, plus more special shoots for the holidays. Plus, Hampton Beach is one of only four “Superstar Beaches” in the United States. This means it has been awarded a five star rating by the Natural Resources Defense Council four years in a row for its pristine water that is safe to swim in. This shouldn’t be any surprise because of the extra hard work done by the New Hampshire Parks Department to groom the wide sandy expanse of Hampton Beach early every morning. But that’s just what you may find during any week of the summer at Hampton Beach. Beyond the venues of the ballrooms, restaurants and lounges, there are truly special events throughout the summer that add their signature to Hampton Beach’s status as New England’s premiere seaside resort town. Have a great time at Hampton Beach! 2nd Place “A Day At The Beach” Mary Crowley, Reading, MA 3rd Place Patricia Messier, Agawam, MA 50 “Sunrise” 8 2014 Hampton Beach Visitors Guide 8 Honorable Mention Billy Sullivan, Springfield MA www.HamptonChamber.com Check Out How To Read The Tides If you are visiting Hampton for a day at the beach or an extended excursion on the water, it pays to know a little about how to read the predictions listed in our monthly tide tables on the following pages. The first step is to locate the date you are visiting Hampton Beach; this is listed in the light blue “date” column on the left side of each table. To help break up the table, Sundays and holidays are left in white. To help you take advantage of entertainment at Hampton Beach, dates with fireworks are listed in red type. On average, there are two high tides a day, once in the morning (AM) and once in the evening (PM). The feet (FT) columns indicate how high a high tide will rise from the typical low-tide average. At Hampton Beach, this is a range of seven to twelve feet. Low tides follow a similar pattern, occurring about six hours after each high tide, and sometimes going out www.HamptonChamber.com further than average. This is indicated with negative numbers. Tides advance every forty to fifty minutes each day. So a low tide at 6:00 am in morning will be followed by a low tide at around 6:40 the next morning. As a result, there may only be three tides forecast on a date, rather than four. Just as importantly, tides are slightly different up and down the coast because of factors such as rivers, harbors, or geography. Finally, the yellow “SUN” columns on the right side of the tables notes the sun RISE and sun SET for those wishing to make the most of their daytime activities. A blue line over these hours indicates when you may expect a full moon to be out in the evening. A blue line under the hours indicates when there is a new moon (no moon) in the sky. - 6:38 6:27 Don’t Miss The Hampton Beach Seafood Festival Sept. 5-7! 54 Hampton Harbor is one of the oldest ports of call in New Hampshire. Led by Rev. Stephen Bachiler, the original settlers established the town of Hampton in 1638 some two miles inland as you follow the harbor through the salt marshes and up the meandering Taylor River. The harbor mouth has moved further north since that ancient date, because the fine sands of Hampton Beach shifted over the centuries. But you can still see where it was, thanks to the rediscovery of Bound Rock in 1937. This milestone now lies at the bottom of a well off Woodstock Street in Hampton as part of one of the smallest parks you will find at any beach! It still serves as a boundary marker between the towns of Hampton and Seabrook. Dozens of calm winding rivers and creeks flow into Hampton Harbor, providing endless opportunities to explore the natural side of the New Hampshire Seacoast. Egrets, herons, killdeer, Canadian geese, turkeys and many other species of birds and animals call the wilds of the salt marshes home. Some channels are ramrod straight. these are canals cut by farmers to help drain the land and provide access to the salt marsh hay that was once vital for feeding livestock. The largest canal on the seacoast though is Nudd’s Canal. Dredged in 1823, this half mile channel cut over two miles of travel off the twists of the Taylor River to Hampton’s old town landing. Hampton Harbor remains a busy port, for lobstermen, kayak rentals, charter fishing boats, whale watches, fireworks cruises and much, much more.
