Special Festival Insert ITALIAN-AMERICAN HERALD June 12-19, 2016 Festival Hours Sunday, June 12 Festival 5K Registration: 8am Race Start: 9am Festival Open: 2pm-10:30pm Monday, June 13 - Friday, June 17 5:30pm - 10:30pm Saturday, June 18 June 12-19, 2016 2pm - 10:30pm Sunday, June 19 For 2016, we celebrate the beauty and the richness of Renaissance Italy—inspiring creativity and ingenuity, even today! This year’s Italian Festival will offer all the great traditions you’ve grown to love over the years, and feature many updates designed to make your Festival visits more fun than ever. All the great cafes, stages, midways rides and games, and attractions are back—and we’ve added a number of great new features to make sure our guests have the best Festival experience ever! This year the Festival will be closing our vendor block on Scott St. between 9th & 10th St. to vehicular traffic all week. This will permit us to introduce tented seating on that block, and to permit our vendors to expand their footprint to better serve our patrons. Our newest vendor partners, Luigi & Giovanni Caterers, will return & will expand their footprint, introducing an Italian “food court” concept, offering multiple stations of unique and delicious offerings of Italian foods of many types with seating as well. The block will also feature a new bar, which will offer a convenient location to grab a drink and relax and enjoy your time in this area of the Festival grounds. In partnership with the recently-founded and vibrant ARIANNA cultural alliance, we are pleased to present our renewed cultural hub Il Circolo Culturale. Located between the church and school area, the Bellini Bar returns with an updated offering of products, and the Galileo Café by Chef Giuseppe Furio’s café will be relocated & expanded, adjacent to the Bellini Bar. This area will feature a relocated and upgraded stage and expanded performance area. The stage will be the home of some your favorite Festival musical entertainers, and serve as the venue for the Concerti sul Sagrato—our series of classical outdoor concerts nightly at 7PM. Be sure to catch them all—and prepare to be impressed by appearances by the Delaware Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Maryland Youth Symphony Orchestra! You will be “wowed”! Also new for 2016, presented in partnership with the ARIANNA cultural alliance, this year’s Festival will feature the U.S. debut of the Sfilata dei Fiori (Procession of Flowers). This newest Festival tradition is inspired by the Banderesi Sfliata held annually in Bucchianico, Abruzzo, Italy. Women of various ages will carry beautiful floral baskets on their heads during the annual Festa Patronale (Feast Day Procession) held on the closing Sunday of the Festival. Be sure to catch the preview of this groundbreaking new addition to the Festival during a preview to be offered at the Gala Concert on the opening Sunday. (On that note: the Gala will include a number of engaging new additions this year, including dance.)
