Hey that isn’t my opinion
A hero to me, is someone who lives
there life strong by having a positive attitude and making
the best of life. Someone who doesn’t try to be someone
else but does the right things and is respected as a leader
for everyone else to follow by having pono and
ha’aha’a. A hero is also someone who believes in
themselves and never gives up.
A good saying is: (E) Kulia I Ka Nu`u. In english
This means to strive for the highest or trying the hardest
you can.
Courage, What is Courage?
Courage is not a cowardly
dog it means to be brave and the ability to
be believe. To me, it means that
WRONG! you fight against something big
and scary. A good thing to remember
is to never give up but to try as hard
as you can no matter what is
going on. Courage
is something anyone can have but
you need to believe you can do it.
Courage is also,
to have heart, and having spirit
Courage that’s easy like
courage the cowardly
dog right?
Ladies and Gentlemen I present to
you my hero: Leatrice Yuriko Bartels
My grandma, what a
great person she is.
Someone who makes
me smile when I am
down. She is a happy
person and always
cheerful. Through her
tough times she keeps
a positive attitude.
My Hero: Leatrice Yuriko Bartels
My grandma, Leatrice Yuriko Bartels has been battling cancer for about about 3
years. She is my hero because of the courage, the power and the will that she has to
battle this terrible disease. Her outlook on life and the positive attitude that she has is
what makes her strong. And each time that I see her I can see that she is making BIG
strides. You can tell by the look in her eyes.
At times we comforted my grandma like when she was at the hospital we would
buy dinner and eat with her at the hospital. Almost every Sunday, my dad prepares a good,
home cooked meal and we take it over there to eat with my grandma. Or, sometimes if my
grandma is feeling better we go out to eat rather than my grandma staying at home all the
time. Sometimes, its really nice that my grandma’s sisters come over to prepare food. They
drop it off for her and this relieves my grandpa from cooking.
There were times when she was ill and she’d still take the time to ask me about my
basketball game. She likes to hear about the baskets I made and how many points I scored.
She always use to come to my games but now she has been unable to because of her health.
So, I like to tell her about the game because I knew she wanted to be there. My grandma
likes to hear our stories and I know that when we’re all with her it makes her happy. She
even remembers my favorite foods. And, through all of this, she continues to wear a smile
and maintains a positive attitude.
My grandma was the best cook. She always made the best food. Before, she
would make pork-tofu, fried chicken, and the best one was the tacos.
When we ate tacos my grandma would go out and buy all the ingredients, when
we came back my grandma would cook everything while we chopped all the
veggies. Next thing I know we have about 12 bowls in front of us with different
selections of what to put in our taco like chicken, meat, sauce, cheese, lettuce, and
even sour cream. Another thing my grandma made that was always good was her
chocolate dobash cake. Especially for my birthday those were the best.
My grandma, wears the “livestrong” bracelet as a reminder that she needs to
keep fighting and don’t back down. This bracelet was created by the famous
athlete and cyclist, Lance Armstrong who battled cancer and today
he has won the Tour De France for the 6th year in a row. One day when she
feels better, my parents plan on taking my grandma and my grandpa
to Las Vegas for a little vacation and just to relax.
To the left is my Grandpa George and my
Hero, my grandma Lea, and of course me.
This picture was taken at the Swiss Inn.
LIVE STRONG
This is a picture of
my Grandma Lea,
and my Grandma
Betsy.
Overall I learned that a hero is not always your typical superman,
not anyone big and famous but a hero is someone who is strong and
brave at heart and is not afraid to take on their fears. My grandma
goes harder knowing that there is a fear to her. A hero has courage that
causes them to believe and have spirit within their heart.
