to be alive after he was
blasted by 25,000 volts.
The 13-year-old was
playing with a pal on a
rope swing tied to a tree
when the branch
snapped. As they set off
to their home in
Ardrossan, they
dragged the branch
over rail lines and it
was engulfed in flames.
The lad was smouldering when emergency
crews arrived.

A SHERIFF has issued
a warrant for the arrest
of a football fan
accused of throwing a
flare on to the pitch at a
derby game.
Tony Carrol, 51, is
accused of the incident
at an Alloa v Dunfermline play-off last season
which the home side
won 3-0.
He has denied the
charges but failed to
appear for his trial at
Alloa Sheriff Court.
Paige
arrest
A THIRD man has been
arrested over the death
of a teenager missing
since 2007.
Paige Chivers, 15, was
last seen leaving home
in Blackpool.
Yesterday a man, 29,
was held on suspicion
of attempting to pervert
the course of justice.
Two men were
arrested on Monday on
suspicion of murder.

A TEENAGER has been
remanded in custody
following an alleged
firearms incident in
Shetland.
Samuel Barlow, 16,
appeared in private on
petition at Lerwick
Sheriff Court after
firearms officers were
called to the island on
Tuesday.
He was charged with
three counts of assault,
two of theft and one of
malicious damage.

A LOVESICK moose was
back behind bars last night
after twice going on the
run looking for romance.
Horny Hercules did a
runner from a private zoo
in Perthshire.
The six-year-old bull
broke out of his enclosure
at Pitcastle Estate, near
Pitlochry, on Saturday.
Police and Perth and
Kinross Council joined the
hunt for the beast, which
was eventually sighted 30
miles from home.
A spokesman for Pitcastle
Estate confirmed that
Hercules had been found.
It is thought he escaped
in search of a mate after
his partner at the estate
died.
The moose – or Eurasian
elk – is the largest living
species of deer.

A GREAT British Bake Off cook cannot eat
his own cake because he munched too
much sugar on the show.
Brendan Lynch, 65, claims eating sweet stuff
non-stop on the BBC programme two years ago has
given him a stomach condition.
Health experts have now banned him from eating cake,
meaning he misses out on
his own creations.
He says he was left
exhausted and unable to
walk short distances after
the show, and was diagnosed with a condition
named chronic ulcerative
colitis.
Mr Lynch, who was the
2012 runner-up, said:
“There was a lot of pressure during the show as we
did 10 full weekends. After I
finished it, I felt awful.”
He said the stress of the
show, as well as munching
loads of sugar, contributed
to his condition.

IS THE 1D
OF OPERA
OPERA star Lucy Kay is being
tipped as classical music’s
equivalent of One Direction.
The Glasgow singer – who finished
runner-up in Britain’s Got Talent – is
about to release her debut album.
And her manager, Jonathan Shalit, who
also works with Charlotte Church and
Myleene Klaas, believes his newest client
has the talent to become a superstar.

Lucy, 25, said: “He believes I can really
make a big name for myself and be a
classical star.
“I couldn’t be in better hands at the
moment.”
The babe was recently asked to perform
at Simon Cowell’s 55th birthday bash
ahead of the release of the album entitled
Fantasia.
That event in London was attended by
Cheryl Cole, Amanda Holden, David
Walliams and Alesha Dixon.
Lucy said: “To perform at Simon’s

birthday party was as much a surprise for
me as it was for Simon. He knew nothing
about it.
“I sang Nessun Dorma for him because I
knew that was one of his favourite songs.
He didn’t take his eyes off me.
“He then came over and hugged me and
gave me a kiss on the cheek.
“It was so lovely. Simon helped where I
am today. I have a lot to thank him for.”
The rising star has also performed
recently on stage with her idol Katherine
Jenkins at the Royal Albert Hall.
Nottinghamshire-born Lucy said: “It
was so fantastic to meet her. She was so
sincere.
“Everyone’s tipping me for international
success and I daren’t get my hopes up,
but that would be absolutely fabulous.
Fingers crossed.”
Lucy is currently house-hunting in
Glasgow with her Scottish boyfriend
David Sutherland.
