Dearly Loved by Christ,
“…let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus…” (Hebrews 12:1-2)
Just recently I added riding a bicycle to my fitness program. When I start out on it both of our family dogs are right there with me. One of them is a
Golden Retriever named Sadie and the other is a small Bijon-Schitzu mix named Lucy. After a few minutes of running alongside of me, Sadie is done.
She stops at the side of the rode, pants, and waits for me to return. But Lucy stays with me every “pedal” of the way until I park the bike in the garage.
I thought it strange that the dog who was “equipped” for going the distance would quit, while the one with the short stubby legs hung in there. I had
been meditating on what it takes to endure, so I knew that the Lord wanted to show me something. What He showed me was that the reason Lucy stays
with me is because of her desire to keep me in her sight. She wants to be with me and if it means running every step of the way, she is willing to do it.
Lucy’s desire to keep her eyes on me and stay with me make up for her natural prowess. Lucy is being driven by passion, not ability.
Beloved, this is the key to running our race with endurance—the desire to keep Jesus in our sight at all times. Let’s stop looking at our ability and let’s
start fanning the flame of desire.
I have had a wonderful summer, but am very ready to get back in the “swing” of things. Please look at the upcoming events and pray over each of them.
I want everything we do to ignite hearts to run after Him. Thank you for your parts in making this happen.

P.S. Lest any of you think I am some sort of athlete, right now I can only ride my bike for about thirty minutes! But that’s a long way for a little dog!
