HOPE - New Hope Ministries
WINTER 2011 www.nhm-pa.org celebrating HOPE The newsletter of New Hope Ministries Winter Greetings to all our Friends at New Hope 2011 promises to bring a year filled with new outreaches into the community, with improvements and expansion of existing programs, all while continuing our mission and service of sharing Christ’s love by meeting the human needs of our neighbors. This issue of Celebrating Hope highlights how the community responds to the need through New Hope Ministries. We are thankful for each donor, church, business, and service group who offers uplifting support, renewed encouragement, and incredible generosity as we help our neighbors in need. Warmly, Financial Literacy For All O ne of the goals we set for clients at New Hope Ministries is financial stability. This past December, we began offering a free, monthly financial literacy class for our clients. Staff and volunteers utilize the FDIC’s Money Smart program, and teach the Money Matters module which talks about how to keep track of money through basic budgeting and financial skills. This free program comes complete with evaluation tools, train-the-trainer materials, and participant materials. Through our three centers, clients sign-up for a class which is held at a local church, where church volunteers serve a meal and provide child care. This class will soon become a requirement for those clients seeking initial financial assistance from New Hope. (From left to right.) Joseph M. Capita, UWCR president and CEO; Dennis P. Along the same lines, the United Way of the Capital Region recently announced it has received a $50,000 grant from PNC Community Development, a division of The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc., to help support five “Prosperity Centers” in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties to help low- to moderate-income families become financially stable. The announcement was made during a press conference in December 2010 at New Hope Ministries’ Mechanicsburg West Shore Center, which will serve as one of the Prosperity Centers scheduled to open in 2011. As a result of her idea and generosity, New Hope received many cards and was able to give them to the clients who attended New Hope’s various Adopt-a-Senior Christmas Parties in Decem- ber. Each senior received a very unique and compassionately handwritten card that expressed God’s love and care for them. What a truly wonderful Christmas gift! Jeremiah 29:11 Legacy Society N amed after this poignant scripture, New Hope’s Jeremiah 29:11 Society was created to identify individuals whose estate plans include a gift to New Hope. This legacy society provides a unique opportunity for a partnership with New Hope during your lifetime and to plan for the future at the same time. You can make a difference in the lives that follow by including New Hope in your estate plans. It’s a simple way to remember the families we serve every day at New Hope. We are extremely blessed and thankful to the following Char- ter Members of the Jeremiah 29:11 Legacy Society for committing to further the mission of New Hope for generations to come: Mr. & Mrs. Richard Bricker Dr. & Mrs. Peter Cardinal Mrs. Mary Kuhns Mr. & Mrs. Robert Musser Mr. & Mrs. Terry Stouffer If you would like more information about our Jeremiah 29:11 Society, please contact Molly Helmstetter, Director of Development, at (717) 4322087.
