Integrating AV and IT
Creative Development with Project Management
Most ideas fail because we stop when the first good idea is presented.
Creative brainstorming is a science as much as it is an art.
Don’t start with the “what” in mind. Always start with “why?”.
Great ideas without execution are pointless.
Integrating AV and IT
Creative Development with Project Management
Leverage the right tools to capture, collect and conspire.
Mindmanager Pro - mindmapping software for brainstorming
Basecamp - Project management collaboration that’s online
Hire Project Managers - don’t do it all, just get it done

one giant leap for the project manager.”

Standardization Yields Consistency For All
Train once, replicate many.
Infrastructure cost decreases as standardization increases.
One brand across the board means one point of responsibility.
Volunteers don’t need the pressure of multiple systems.

Technology in Churches is now Mission Critical
If the technology fails, church could be over.
Not everyone can afford generators or UPS for everything.
Duality of content delivery is the only way to do multi-venue.
Workflow, storage and archival must be continually refined and expanded.
Remote administration is possible for all AV gear. Love the LAN.
In every area where technology failure is not an option, spend the money.
Integrating AV and IT
Technology in Churches is now Mission Critical
Redundancy isn’t a luxury, it’s now a necessity.
Internet, Ethernet or Sneakernet - have a plan.
A solid backup plan also includes a fast restore plan.
The hardest part of redundancy is the redundancy of people.
Integrating AV and IT
Comfort others during Disaster Recovery
If the technology fails, church could be over.
Not everyone can afford generators; but you can ‘UPS’ data-sensitive gear.
Redundant power supplies, multiple control options matter.
Don’t just have a plan for backup, have a plan for getting back up.
Practice emergencies and failures, find a way to stay up.
Your first priority isn’t the technical failure, it’s comforting leadership.
Integrating AV and IT
Comfort others during Disaster Recovery
Offsite storage of critical data is mandatory.
Don’t just save the final project; save the project files.
Automating data backups is the ONLY way that counts.
Invest in optical recovery, backups and archival. I recommend Sony’s
XDCam or XDCamHD for media projects (includes metadata).
Integrating AV and IT
Comfort others during Disaster Recovery
“If your first response is ‘Oh, crap!’ instead of
‘Thank God!’, you have a problem.”

Black Hole Budgeting
Technology has a never-ending budget - a black hole for money.
Categorize budgets into needs, not departments.
Get control of all tech budgeting - no matter what.
Budgets are always based on three things: Hardware, Software
and Peopleware
Vision drives need. Need drives cost. Cost drives budget.
If you budget any other way, you’re *&#^@#!
