New Winery Hospitality Options
Another grape-growing year
fter having the good fortune of spending a lot of time with Fess
over a span of about ten years, it became clear to me what he wanted
from his winery. First and foremost was the opportunity to work with
his family – Marcy, Eli and Ashley – and to create an entity that could
be multi-generational. Fess also talked about three other topics: making
wines of outstanding quality, being able to share them with friends, and
having a place where people could enjoy these wines and visit. These
concepts have become engrained in the Parker family’s values.
he tender green shoots have emerged from their
dormant buds with the grapes for this year’s harvest.
Coastal Vineyard Care, our team of vineyard managers,
have had very early mornings protecting this new growth
from this spring’s frosts. Frost usually happens in the wee
hours of the morning, and all of the overhead sprinklers
or wind machines need to be turned on when the
temperature dips down to 34 degrees. This is a crucial
time to protect the vines and usually takes place March
through May. With that behind us, it is now time to
look toward other viticultural practices such as shoot
thinning, shoot tucking and the initial fruit thinning.
With all the rain we had this winter and spring, we are
sure to have a larger crop than average.

As we continue to carry forward Fess’ vision, we saw an opportunity to
expand on the last of these: hospitality. To that end, we are pleased to
announce we have finished renovations to the Estate Room and Wine
Club Lounge in the barrel room at the winery. Our improvements will
allow us to provide a quiet haven away from the crowds on weekends for
Wine Club members, and to deliver a new, in-depth VIP tour and tasting
program often lead by members of the winemaking team.
T
Our focus will be on our most limited, sought-after wines, with an
emphasis on those coming from Rodney’s Vineyard including Syrah,
Viognier, our new Dry Riesling and Crockett. Our new tour and
tasting program will include a thorough, back-of-the-house look at our
winemaking practices from “bin to bottle,” highlighting practices such as
hand-sorting, small lot fermentations, basket press, etc., followed by an
intimate, detailed sit-down tasting of small-lot wines in the Estate Room.
Wine Club members will be able to invite up to 6 friends at a special
discount. We will also offer food and wine pairings by Chef Barrett on a
“by appointment” basis.
In the winery, Tony and the bottling team have been
busy bottling some more delicious Fess Parker Wines!
We have also racked all of the 2010 red wines like
the Pinot Noir, Syrah, Grenache, etc. Racking is the
pumping of the wine out of the barrels into a tank,
washing the barrels, and returning the wine back to the
same barrels. Dave and I have been busy tasting all of
these barrels before they are racked and also assembling
the new blends to be bottled. All of us are getting
anxious for the 2011 harvest, which seems like it is just
around the corner.
We appreciate all of your support of the years and look forward to having
you back to experience our new offerings. Thank you.
Many thanks to all of my staff for doing such a good job
and we thank you for enjoying
njoy g our wine!
Sincerely,
Cheers,
