The Blarney Stone, located at 288 W. Genesee Street. in Auburn,
celebrated its first anniversary last month with plenty of Irish food
and live music. Year 2 promises to have even more live music at
the club with the creation of their Tuesday night music series.
“We’re looking forward to providing a wide-range of talent in our
tavern for early evening listening,” said owner Tom Delaney. “The
level of talent in our area is phenomenal, and we are tapping in to
making this an enjoyable experience for everyone.” Thursday,
Friday and Saturday nights also feature live music at the club, as
well as a full tavern menu. “This will be the only place in Auburn
where you can listen to live music four nights a week,” said coowner Chad Balog. For further information and reservations for
The Blarney Stone, please call (315) 255-0777, or check them out

The Best Dream is an up-and-coming indie rock band in Syracuse.
Singer/songwriter Melody Calley started the band because she
wanted to produce a more complete sounding live show than the
solo, acoustic rock she had been playing out in Syracuse. This
past spring, she enlisted James Bort (Bass Guitar and sic vibe)
and Joe Micheletti (drums, percussion) to lend their talents to make
her dream come to life. Their new dimension of alternative rock
is undeniable pretty and irresistible catchy, and “kicked up a notch”
with driving, moody bass lines, loopy explorations of harmony,
bursts of hyper, intricate drumming and blasts of in-your-face
power. Their live show is a unique potion full of emotion and
intense raw energy. You can catch their live set at the 1st Utica
Music Festival on Saturday, September 20th.

CNY BAND PROFILE : Stone Soul Foundation
Auburn’s Stone Soul Foundation is a self proclaimed “blues,
funk, and soul injected hard rock quintet”. Formed in 2002,
its hard to tell whether this 5 member band has crossed many
genre lines, or created their own unique sound. With
influences representing the past 4 decades, Soul Stone
Foundation has created quite a buzz around CNY, and are
now taking aim at the rest of Upstate NY and the northeast.
I recently had the chance to track them down at a few of their
shows this past summer, and ask them a few questions about
the band.
CNYLIVE: How did the band meet and form originally???
Jeff Wiggins: Sean our (singer) and myself (guitarist) met
through friends from school. I was 14 at the time and Sean
about 16. We got together one day after school and started
writing songs together. Before we new it one day turned into
15 years! We’ve been good friends the whole time. We formed
a few groups over the years, “Shepherd” which our current
guitarist Dan was in for while, and “Smoke Stack”. After those
bands fizzled out we came up with the idea for Stone Soul
Foundation, a Heavy Rock band with elements of Blues, Funk,
and Metal. We wanted our music to come across with the
soul of a great RNB singer or a gospel preacher. You could
say that’s why the name Stone Soul Foundation seemed so
fitting. Then we set out to form the band. Sean met Shane
Stillman at a local pub in Auburn, and through casual
conversation found he was a drummer looking for a band.
We auditioned Shane and he became a full fledged member
of the band that day. Then we called upon our good friend
Dan Dennis to fill the spot for additional guitar duties. Our
original bass player wasn’t working out so we recruited Doug
Paradise from Seneca Falls. He was in a cover band at the
time called “Shmae” and was very stoked to be part of an
original band. We all have been writing and performing
together as Stone Soul Foundation for several years now.
CNYLIVE: After seeing you live last month, I realized you
are one of those bands that really crosses genre lines and
musical time periods. How would you describe the bands
music to the casual CNY fan???
Sean Muldoon: To put it quite simply we are a blues
influenced hard rock band. To be more specific we are a
bluesfunkboogieacidmetalrockband!
CNYLIVE: The new song ‘Christian’ on your myspace is
great, when will we see it on a full length release???
Jeff: We’ll be releasing 2 more songs on the internet,
“Window” and “Ain’t no Mystery” available for free
download on our web-site and Myspace page. We recommend
our web-site www.stonesoulfoundation.com for a higher
quality Mp3. These three songs, and several others, will
be on our new “to be titled record” slated for an early 2009
release.
CNY VENUE PROFILE : Dewitt Shire Tavern
In the ever changing landscape of live music venues
throughout Central NY, one that is making a resurgence
is the Dewitt Shire Tavern in East Syracuse. The bar has
added a stage for live bands, and has upped the ante by
bringing in talent buyer Christina “Krit” Woods to book
and promote the club. I recently had the chance to talk
to Krit about The Shire and their upcoming music series.
CNYLIVE: Can you tell me a little about the venue,
including location and setup?
Krit: Dewitt Shire Tavern is nestled in between
Thompson Rd and Erie Blvd, which is right down the
road from Lemoyne College. It is next to businesses
which are closed at night making it a perfect party place,
not to mention the strip club Paradise Found across the
street. The parking lot is huge which is also a plus! Inside
the venue has a huge bar with a large drink selection and
food will also be available. The stage is quite large
making it perfect for live music. The maximum capacity
is 200 people.
CNYLIVE: What nights will you have live music?
Krit: We will be having free live music every weekend
which will include a variety of different sounds (rock,
jam, reggae, electronica, jazz etc.) Open Mike will be
held every Wednesday night with Phil Smo. For open
mike night, sound and a drum kit will be provided, but
acts are encouraged to bring their own instruments.
CNYLIVE: What type of bands will you be booking,
local or touring?
Krit: Most of the bands are Upstate bands, but some out
of state bands will be invited to play as well.
CNYLIVE: Who are some of the bands that will be
playing this fall???
Krit: I’m really excited to bring all of these bands in!
Upstate bands include The Buddhahood (Rochester),
Roots Collider (Rochester), On the Sly (Fredonia) and
Dovetail Joint (Syracuse). Regional bands on the
schedule include The Change Up from Boston, Infinite
Detour from New Jersey, Japhy Ryder from Burlington,
and Macpodz from Michigan.
