Hoedspruit Police Station citing that
residents have been complaining of
alleged corrupt officers.

crime awareness campaign on no
violence against women, children and
people with disabilities event held
at Namakgale town hall last week
Friday.
“I am reliably informed that
Hoedspruit Police Station has some
rotten potatoes and those potatoes
must be removed from the system as
they are tarnishing the integrity of
hardworking and law abiding officers.
“I am tasking you today to visit
Hoedspruit urgently and compile a
report on your findings,” explained
Mokaba referring to Giyani Cluster
Commander, Brigadier Rosinah
Mulaudzi.
The MEC added that Mulaudzi
should rotate officers who have been
in the station for a long time to avoid
having tendencies of officers now
relaxed, unproductive and concealing
criminals since they joined the station
many years ago.
“You must report corrupt officers
to the station commanders and in
the event of them failing to help
you, you should escalate the matter
to Brigadier Mulaudzi and she will
kindly attend to your concerns.

217,” remarked Mokaba.

officer, Sergeant Livhuwani
Mulaudzi on Monday says she
engaged provincial departmental
spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel
Ronel Otto and said the MEC’s office
will await Mulaudzi’s preliminary
findings before releasing a detailed
report on the allegations.

die voorsitter, Janus Roets, bekend gemaak.
Die Wildsfees is een van die oudste feeste
in die land en is vir 30 jaar aangebied. In diè
typerk was Swadini, die Lugmagbasis en, in
die laaste tyd, Blyde Wildlife Estate, gasheer
vir die fees.
In ‘n kort verklaring wat Vrydagoggend
uitgereik is sê Roets: “Na 30 goeie en
wonderlike jare van die Hoedsdpsuit
Wildsfees moes daar ‘n besluit gemaak
word oor die voortbestaan van die fees. As
gevolg van die ekonomiese klimaat en ander
faktore is daar besluit dat ons die Hoedspruit
Wildsfees gaan groet. Hoedspruit Wildsfees
gegroet, maar nie vergete.”
Die Wildsfees het aanvanklik begin met
‘n wildveiling as hoogtepunt en is deur
besoekers van oor die hele land bygewoon.
Bek-en-klou en ander verwante sake het
dit egter al moeiliker gemaak en later is die
wildveiling gekanselleer.
Die Wildsfees sal altyd met die twee
AB’s geassosieer word: AB Venter wat in
die vroeër jare die leisels gehou het en AB
Burger wat by hom oorgevat het. Ongelukkig
moes AB Burger weens gesondheidsredes
onttrek by die Wildsfees en dit sal vir hom in
besonder baie hartseer wees dat die gewilde
fees nou eindig.
Kort voor die ter perse gaan het die
HOEDSPRUIT HERALD betroubaar
verneem dat daar reeds ‘n vergadering van
enkele belanghebbendes was om ‘n ander
gemeenskapsfees in die Wildsfees se plek aan
te bied. Min besonderhede is tans bekend,
maar sal binnekort in die HOEDSPRUIT
HERALD bekend gemaak word.

Hoedspruit: Unie se optog verloop seepglad
VEILIGHEID: Net minder as ‘n 100 boere het die protesgangers ingewag.
BOERE en besighede in die Hoedspruitse
vrugte bedryf is behoorlik keelvol vir 'n unie
wat die afgelope ruk sy voet in die deur wil
kry daar.
Lede van die Bosbou- and Plaaswerkers
Unie (BPU) probeer al vir 'n geruime tyd
onder plaaslike werkers hul kleim afsteek,
met wisselende sukses. Volgens Mike Scott,
van die area se Plaaswag, is die lede van dié
unie reeds by verskeie plase toegang geweier
en het gemoedere begin hoog loop die
afgelope ruk.
Verlede Dinsdag het die unie 'n optog na
'n bekende Hoedspruitse maatskappy gehou
in 'n poging om 'n memorandum van klagtes
aan die bestuur te oorhandig. Die optog was
egter nie met die nodige toestemming gehou
nie en die protesgangers is die deur gewys.
Die unie het toe die nodige toestemming
by die munisipale owerhede verkry en
Woensdag weer probeer. Volgens Scott het
plaaslike boere in samewerking met die
Plaaswag besluit om hul eie magsvertoon te

MEC for Health Dr Phophi Ramathuba
will lead a door to door health awareness
campaign in the province as part of the
Sexual Transmitted Infection(STI)/Condom
Week activities. The campaign is aimed
not only at reducing the spread of STI but
to also curb the spread of HIV and AIDS.
STI/Condom Week is a health awareness
event held between the February 7th and
14th each year to highlight the importance
of condom usage and inform people about
the transmission of sexually transmitted
infections.
The theme for this year is: “I am
responsible for my Sexual and Reproductive
Health”.

VEP receives new shelter
A shelter for domestic violence victims was
recently handed over to Vuwiselo Victim
Empowerment (VEP) by Mpumalanga Social
Development MEC NomsaMtsweni .
The construction of this building was
started in 2012 and the final touch ups were
done last month.
MEC, Mtsweni, encouraged the people
at the event, that was held in Merriam
Mogakane hall, to report any form of abuse.
‘When you don’t report these crimes the
children end up suffering. If they become
victims they think it is a way of life. And
some of the children will think that love is all
about abuse,’ said Mtsweni.
VEP used to shelter the victims in a shack
but now they have four bedrooms and a
kitchen with an inside bathroom.
Chairperson of VEP, Class Maunye said
that almost 70 percent of domestic violence
victims are women and children.
He said that they deal with different kinds
of domestic violence and they try to help the
victims to survive and heal the wounds that
the abuse caused them through counselling.
‘Children who often witness their parents
being abused at home suffer as some of them
even fail at school,’ said Maunye.
The event was attended by the local
community members, Acornhoek police,
Lovelife, Greenvalley Homebase Care, ward
councillors under Sehlare tribal authority,
Bushbuckridge Local Municipal Mayor and
Childline.

The benefit out of this is the fact that
the festival will be filmed and broadcast in
countries such as Cuba and Latin America.
Like the previous festival the 13
cooperatives under Mukumbi Industries will
brew 12 000 litres of Marula beverage, which
will be consumed by the public during the
festival.
The festival will culminate in the Gospel
and Jazz open air concert that will feature big
names in the South African music industry
and will include Lira, Zonke, Tshepo Tshola,
Judith Sephuma, Sifiso Ncwane, Winnie
Mashaba, Brian Themba, Thomas Chauke,
Colbert Mukwevho, Malatji, Khuthane,
Magilo, Zozo, Foster and many more.
Tickets for both open air concerts are
already available at computicket at a highly
subsidised amount of R100.
This time the festival organisers have also
requested the service provider to arrange
a VIP and/orVVIP marquee that will be
purchased at R2000 per individual. People
are urged to start buying tickets.

The organisers added that, the festival
will not be a complete business without the
heritage or traditional aspect of the tasting
of the first fruit, which will be conducted by
the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture in
Limpopo.

and Culture, Nandi Ndalane, will preside
over the provincial build-up event, Ku
LumaVukanyi/Ku Luma Nguva/Go Loma
Morula which will take place at Muti Wa
Vatsonga on February 13.

THE 2016 edition of Limpopo Marula
Festival promises to be a thriller.
“Given the calibre of artists who will
perform at the event and other activities
to take place from February 19 to 28
in Phalaborwa revellers should brace
themselves for a thriller and a much
improved 2016 Limpopo Marula Festival,”
said the MEC for Limpopo Economic
Development, Environment and Tourism
(LEDET), Seaparo Sekoati.
The festival will officially commence
on February 19 with the street carnival
comprising various cultural groups including
the South African National Defence Force
from the town of Phalaborwa to Impala Park
stadium where the festival will take place.
On February 20, the festival’s open air
music concert will among others feature
artists like Cassper Nyovest, Ricky Rick,
AKA, Emtee, Heavey K, Durban Nyts, Nathi,
Mmatema, Oskido, Karabo, Ab Crazy, Ms
Cosmo, Kaleido, Zinhle, Professor, Eddie
Crook, Deeper Bus, Thallix, Blinks, X Man,
Fiona, Master Pule and many more.
As part of the festival, four professional
chefs will prepare a four course meal for
dignitaries at a gala dinner to be hosted by
the MEC of LEDET, Seaparo Sekoati.
The organisers have line up other activities
as part of celebrating Marula Month and
those will include the following:Youth
Rugby (Bulletjies), Golf Challenge, Cuisine
Ala Marula, Career Expo, Exhibition, Half
Marathon and Fun Run.
According to the organisers, the festival
will have a considerable contingent of
international guests from Cuba, China and
Russia while a big number will be from
Mozambique and other SADC countries.

LIMPOPO IS BAOBAB HEAVEN
Did you know that the Baobab tree is full of nutrients or that bats, instead of bees, pollinate the baobab flower?
These are very interesting trees.
Limpopo houses the two biggest baobab trees in the country.
The biggest is the Sunland Baobab, close to Modjadjiskloof and the second is the Glencoe Baobab in Hoedspruit.
One of the branches of the Sunland Baobab is almost broken off, because of its age.
The Glencoe Baobab tree split into two in 2009.
Without its branch, will the Sunland Baobab still be the biggest?
FIRST: The Sunland Baobab close to Modjadjiskloof. With a height of 22 meters and 47 meters in
girth, it is the biggest in the country.
SECOND: The Glencoe Baobab in Hoedspruit. With a trunk diameter of 15.9 and a height of 17
meters. It split in 2009.

DSAC to celebrate the tasting
of the first fruit this weekend
THE MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture,
Nandi Ndalane will lead the annual official
celebration of the tasting of the First Fruit
Season 2016 at Muti wa VaTsonga in Eiland
on Saturday February 13.
The ceremony to honour the cultural
heritage of the Marula is called ‘Ku Luma
Vukhanyi/Go Loma Morula’
‘Ku Luma Vukhanyi’ and is aimed at
promoting knowledge and awareness about
the African Tradition associated with the
golden fruit of Africa-Marula.
“It also serves as a build-up towards
the annual Marula Festival, also aimed
at marketing Limpopo’s cultural and
natural heritage,” said the departmental
spokesperson, Malesela Ramaoka in a
statement. Ramaoka said like the previous
ceremonies, the department will provide
thousands litres of Marula beverage, which
will be consumed by the public during the
event.
The people of Limpopo call Marula the
"food of kings and ancestors," and celebrate
the "Feast of First Fruits by pouring offerings
of fresh juice over the tombs of their late
chiefs and family.
The event has been celebrated since 2005.
It is also celebrated through diverse cultural
dance.

van die publiek op 'n enorme swart mamba
in Hoedspruit Pick en Pay se parkeerarea
afgekom het.
Kinyonga het die oproep omtrent 12:00
die middag ontvang en twee personeellede,
Prince Tshuma en Ethan Gouws, het
hul dadelik daarheen gehaas om die
probleemslang te gaan vang.
Daar gekom het alles volgens plan verloop
en die slang is veilig verwyder.
Teen saktyd was die slang nog by die
reptielpark maar die plan is om hom spoedig
weer vry te laat waar hy hoort.
'N Kenner op die gebied van die okkulte
gaan op Vrydag 12 Februarie Hoedspruiters
toespreek en hul meer oor die gevare
daarvan vertel.
Hoedspruit Plaaswag het hoofsaaklik
die veiligheid van die gemeenskap ten doel
maar as mens aan veiligheid dink, dan dink
mens ook aan die jeug en selfs sommige
volwassenes wat onder die invloed kom
van Satanisme en dwelmmiddels. Dit is
nie meer ‘n geheim dat Hoedspruit absoluut
geteiken word deur hierdie euwels nie.
Almal kan langs die kantlyn staan en gis en
wonder, of self inspring en iets doen. Deur
jou kinders toe te rus is die eerste stap in die
regte rigting.
Adele Neveling was betrokke by die
okkulte en sy is deur die Genade van God
verlos daarvan. Sy kom deel haar storie
met ons hierdie naweek oor hoe God haar
lewe verander het. Alles vind plaas by die
Lewende Water Kerk. Vrydag die 12de
Februarie gaan sy met die jeug gesels vanaf
18:30 tot 20:00, en Saterdag is daar 2 sessies

langs die atletiekbaan die afgelope Saterdag,
toe Laerskool Drakensig se atlete stof in hul
teenstanders se oë geskop het tydens hul
jaarlikse Prestige atletiekbyeenkoms.
Mixo Nxumalo is een van die atlete wat
haar ouers en onderwysers se harte laat swel
het van trots soos sy die een rekord na die
ander verbeter het.
Sy is ook aangewys as die Senior Victrix
Ludorum en die beste baanatleet van die dag.
Die Drakies is sommer baie trots op haar
asook die res van die atletiekspan wat hul
beste gelewer het op die dag!
Drakies sê ook baie dankie aan elke
ouert wat as beampte opgetree het, by die
verkope gewerk het en ook op die pawiljoen
hul ondersteuning gewys het! Jul is

DRAKENSIG Golf Club held their Monthly
Medal and Annual General Meeting on
February 6.
There was a large turnout for the hotly
contested monthly medal for February held
at the Drakensig Golf club on Saturday.
Judging from the very good scores a very
good day was enjoyed by most. If you did not
play well on the day it was not the course’s
fault.
The 3 Divisions were once again contested
over 18 holes for ‘Division Trophies’ and the
winners on the day were: A Division - Moses
Ntoke with a net 66, B Division - Chris
Hattingh with a net 71, C Division - Joe van
der Walt with a net 69
The overall winners on the day which is the
best net scores went to: 1st Moses Ntoke - net
66, 2nd Nico Swarts - net 66 and 3rd
Joe van der Walt - net 69.

for golf club

Two clubs were had by Gregg Janse van
Rensburg (2), Francois van Staden and Brian
Mcauly
Most Golf was hotly contested and
there were quite a few contenders but Neil
Myburgh was the final recipient
Thanks once again to Spar for the
continued sponsorship and to all the players
and to Spur for their support.
The newly elected committee at Drakensig
Golf Club is as follows: Gerrie Botha, Johan
Swart, Gregg janse van Rensburg, Chris
Hattingh, Nico Swarts, Kevin Drake, Barry
Barnett, Rikki Ferreira and Dawie van der
Merwe.
The meeting was opened by the outgoing
Chairman - Harry van Staden who thanked
all for their attendance and welcomed the
incoming Chairman - Nico Swarts.
