Stock thieves under attack
TWO bakkies belonging to stock
thieves were burnt to ashes by an
enraged mob next to the R36 road in
Sekororo in the early hours of Friday.
This after the two motor vehicles
were found carrying 16 stolen cattle
carcasses at around 03:00. Police
spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel
Moatshe Ngoepe said police on routine
patrol on the R36 road in Sekororo
spotted suspicious looking motor
vehicles in the bushes next to the road.
“When the police approached the
bakkies, one suspect ran away and the
other one was arrested on the scene
after 16 cattle carcasses were found in
the back of the bakkies,” said Ngoepe.
Ngoepe said the other suspect was
arrested later following a massive
search in the bushes.
“While we were still at the scene, a
large number of community members
including the owners of stolen cattle
arrived, and demanded that one of the
suspects who was in the police van be
handed over to them. Police refused
and managed to get away with the
suspect,” said Ngoepe.
Ngoepe said the enraged members
set fire on the two bakkies but others
managed to save some of the cattle
carcasses before the cars were burnt
to ashes.
Two suspects, aged 28 and 34
years old, were due to appear in the
Naphuno Magistrate’s Court on at the
time of going to press.
Ngoepe said the suspects have been
charged with stock theft after some
of the owners of the stolen cattle
managed to identify them and lay
charges.

Elderly man hit with a gun
ACORNHOEK police are investigating a
case of assault with intent to cause grievous
bodily harm after an elderly man was hit with
a gun by an unknown suspect last Saturday
evening.
According to Acornhoek police spokesperson, Lieutenant Mpho Nonyane, the man
(64) was walking on the street around 19:00
when he was approached by a man holding
a firearm. ‘The suspect demanded cash and
when the victim told him he didn’t have
money he was hit with the firearm on the
head,’ said Nonyane. The victim was knocked
unconscious and he was helped by a bypasser who found him on the road.
Anyone with information that can help
the police to arrest this armed suspect
can contact Acornhoek police branch
Commander Lieutenant Colonel John
Mbambo on 082 469 1031.
Life sentence for rapist
A 25-year-old man was sentenced to life
imprisonment in Mhala Regional court after
he was found guilty of raping a young woman
in 2011.
According to Acornhoek police
spokesperson, Lieutenant Mpho Nonyane,
Tshepo Mokone was convicted for rape,
house robbery and housebreaking that
happened in Timbavati Trust in 2011, July
around 01:50. ‘The suspect went to the
victim’s house with his friends armed with a
firearm and knives,’ said Nonyane.
They threatened the people they found in
the house and they started to rob them of
their belongings.
They took a computer screen, leather
jacket, DVD player, four pairs of shoes and
four cellphones.
Mokone was also found guilty of raping
a 21-year-old woman who was alone in her
room. He was sentenced to one life sentence
for rape, 18 years for house robbery, 12 years
for housebreaking and 15 years for robbery
with a firearm.
BRAND NEW: Shiny new forensic vehicles will lighten the load on the exisƟng fleet.
Woman raped after job promise
ACORNHOEK police are searching for an
unknown man who raped a woman after
promising her a job.
According to Acornhoek police
spokesperson, Lieutenant Mpho Nonyane,
the victim was on her way back from work
around 14:00 when she met the suspect who
introduced himself as Emmanuel.
‘The suspect asked her where she was
coming from and after exchanging a few
words he asked for her phone number,
saying his boss is looking for people to hire,’
said Nonyane.
The victim gave her contact details to the
suspect and she later received a call asking
her to pay some money so that she can be
hired. The victim refused to pay. The next
day around 21:00 she received a call again.
She was asked to meet with the suspect
outside her gate and when she arrived he
dragged her to the nearby bushes where he
raped her several times.
Acornhoek police urge people to stop
trusting people they meet on the way as most
of them are criminals who are looking for
vulnerable people to rob, rape and even kill.
Contact Acornhoek police Lt Col John
Mbambo on 082 469 1031.

LIMPOPO Premier, Stanley Mathabatha,
handed over 60 ambulances to Limpopo
Hospitals, as well as laundry equipment, to
Sekororo Hospital on Tuesday.
Mathabatha, together with Health MEC Dr
Phophi Ramathuba, handed 60 brand new
ambulances and a fully equipped laundry
to Sekororo Hospital, plus four forensic
vehicles, as part of the 100 acquired by the
Department of Health.
The arrival of the new fleet will ease the
shortage of Emergency Medical Services
vehicles as a result of the ageing of the
existing fleet.
The acquisition of Emergency Medical
Services (EMS) vehicles is a constant exercise
to ensure that the province eventually meets
the national EMS norms regarding the
response time of 15 minutes in urban areas
and 40 minutes in rural areas.
Limpopo is largely rural and the
attainment of these ambulances, will
certainly sidestep the challenges faced by
the local people, even those in the more farflung areas of the province. The province has
made an assurance during the departmental
Budget Speech earlier this year, to prioritise
the procurement of ambulances, so that
the people of Limpopo can benefit from
these services and their quality of health is
improved.
This is the first batch of the ambulances
acquired and the rest will be delivered later
to complete the number of 100, as committed
during the budget speech delivery of the
2015/16 departmental budget vote. Some
of these ambulances will be converted to
obstetrics vehicles, in order to ensure that
pregnant women are safely transported to
the nearest facilities when needed and more
lives are saved.
The arrival of these ambulances will
certainly have a positive impact in the lives
of the people of Limpopo and lessen the
challenges experienced by communities
regarding emergency medical services.
The consignment will be shared amongst
all the five provincial districts.
A fully equipped laundry was also being
unveiled at Sekororo Hospital to deal with
some of the laundry challenges experienced
in the past. The in-house laundry will help to
create job for the people.
The equipment will assist Sekororo
Hospital to have hygiene cloths and linen for
patients.

EXCELLENT HOSTS: The team at Gap Brewhouse were excellent hosts during Wednesday night’s report back meeƟng of the
Hoedspruit Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber still going strong
MEMBERS and guests of the Hoedspruit Chamber of
Commerce met at The Gap Brewhouse restaurant on
Wednesday night for a meet and greet and report back on
the Chamber’s activities.
President Sara Bergs welcomed everybody present and
again committed the Chamber to adhere to it’s vision of
improving the image of Hoedspruit as a town, to bring
benefits top all businesses and to work towards a sense
of community. She added that the Chamber would
love to see a clean and green town, a strong network of
successful businesses and an integrated community that
supports each other.
She also reported that the Chamber experienced
exponential growth since the beginning of the year and
after an initial surge in growth of 350%, it has again
doubled in numbers over the last few months and a
growing number of businesses show interest in the
activities of the Chamber.
The GREEN initiative, in partnership with Ilonka
Croukamp, is a work in progress and thus far a huge
success. Ilonka’s rock and aloe garden attract very
positive comments and for a sponsorship of R1 000
businesses can get involved and support this initiative.
The CLEAN initiative is also a success story and thanks
to sponsorship from, amongst others, Dignity Life,
Elite Plumbing, Jordan Properties and Djuma, a team
of workers clean up the town of all visible rubbish and
remove it to dumping sites.
An additional 40 bins, 20 procured by Ilonka and 20
by the Chamber, were distributed and placed at strategic
points in town. The Chamber bins were sponsored by 3D
Solutions.
The first Farmers’ Market, hosted by Jakkals & Wolf,
was also a great success and will in future be a monthly
event on the last Saturday of every month. Div from the
Rhino Convention Centre sponsors the banners for this
event.
The Speed Networking and Lodge Suppliers’ Expo
were also rip roaring successes and will feature in the
Chamber’s calendar annually.
Communication, both with members and externally,
have also been fine tuned and Chamber Secretary Ronèl
Engelbrecht is doing sterling work in keeping everybody
abreast of Chamber plans and activities.
New members that have joined the HCC include FNB,
Exquisite African Gifts, Bushveld Pest Control, Cultural
Village, Inyoka Gallery, Wild Olive Tree Camp, Sunset
Laundromat, Mhelembe Wildlife Solutions, Debonairs,
Steers, Total, Fine&Country, Program It, Complete

Irene Gregory of Gap Brewhouse and her team
were once again excellent hosts for the evening and
contributed to the success of the event and to the fun had
by everyone in attendance.

OPINION...
veediefstal maklik in ‘n gewelddadige situasie
ontaard.
geensins opgewasse teen hierdie misdadigers
nie. ‘n Gebrek aan die nodige voertuie en
toerusƟng kortwiek die manne in blou gereeld.
As mens in ag neem hoe groot ons landelike

FRESH VEGETABLES: Bennedicter Mhlongo busy in his vegetable garden

Veggie vendor aims high
A VEGETABLE vendor with a vision to success sells a
variety of vegetables that he ploughs in his back yard
garden.
Bennedicter Mhlongo, learned hustle from his late
mother in his early age and now he is dealing with fresh
fruits and vegetables.
As we all know eating more fresh vegetables is one of
the simplest choices anyone can make to improve their
health.
Generally speaking, the greener the vegetable, the
more nutritious it will be and with Mhlongo’s green
vegetables he hopes to help local people to eat a balance
diet.
‘Since 2013 I used to have a backyard garden during
rainy seasons but for subsistence not for commercials.
This year I decided to make it big and opened a fruit and
vegetables corner due the demand from nearby people,’
said Mhlongo.
His plan is to have a big crop farming space outside his
home which will also have water.
He give thanks to his late wife whom he say shall
remain his role model because she taught him a lot with
regards to ploughing and all her lessons are working well
for him.
‘Once you start you will love it, I mean there is peace of
me in the garden,’ he said.
Mhlongo say those who want a successful vegetable
garden must have a secured space that have reliable
water,
have sufficient time to spend with their plants and
take care of them.
He also encourages other vegetable lovers to research
or consult others about plants and how to prevent flies
and other insects from damaging their plants.
He is located in Tsakane Trust, on the R40 just 5km
before Megacity he also supply crèches,
schools funerals and parties, he can be reached on

HOEDSPRUIT HERALD Friday August 28, 2015
COMMUNITY
CARE BUDDIES: A care group for the elderly in Hoedspruit invites the community to become part of the Care Buddies.
Care Buddies come together
IT all started with an overheard conversation.
PRISCILLA Eva, going about her business in a shop in
Hoedspruit, overheard a senior citizen talking to a fellow
golden ager: ”I am sick of these young people. We gave
them life. We carried and supported them through that
life, to where they are now. I am sick of hearing them
make and break promises of future visits. It’s always
tomorrow, next week or next month, but another year
rolls by and still no visit.”
At that moment, Priscilla’s heart broke and from the
broken pieces a dream arose.
Care Buddies is a non profit organization.
Yvonne McHeath, who founded Care Buddies in White
River 13 years ago, was a guest at the local chapter’s
August meeting.
She was very impressed with how well the meeting was
structured and what a wonderful job the group was doing
for the older folks in the Hoedspruit and Kampersrus
area.
After the meeting, Yvonne said the local chapter will be
a model for all new Care Buddies chapter starting from
scratch.
At present, it looks like Tzaneen will be next, with
Polokwane showing a need for something in the same
vein.
These ladies travel anything from 2km up to 70km to
visit the elderly.
Anybody interested in joining Care Buddies
Hoedspruit, as well as folks who feel a need for a chapter
in their town or city, is welcome to call Priscilla at 083
280 5057 or Yvonne at 076 903 0660.
Interested people are more than welcome to sit in om a
Care Buddies meeting.
These meetings are held on every second Wednesday
of the month at the English church opposite the
Municipality.
Daar sal altesame 436 kinders by hierdie
projek.
Raak betrokke by ’n tak: Solidariteit het altyd
waarde, ongeag hoe groot of klein.
