Production began with the Austrian pale ale Puntigamer. Heineken Austria decided to invest in PET technology as the bottles are more environmentally friendly, easier to recycle, to dispose of and much safer to handle and use. PET bottles represent a revolution in the Austrian market known for its attachment to tradition. Heineken's new bottle design was also created by Sidel. This was based on existing formats to keep changeover time and investment costs to a minimum. Marketing samples were produced within a week and - only eight months after initial discussions - the first 1.5 litre Puntigamer bottles in PET were rolling off production lines. Sidel then started production on new moulds, which were fitted on the line's SBO 10 Universal blower.
