Since 1971
The original Common Man Restaurant opened in Ashland in November of 1971.
The day we opened we could serve all of 35 people in our cozy front dining room.
We’ve grown quite a bit since then.
The Common Man Family now includes 18 dining spots across the Granite State,
two inns, a spa, Company Store and movie house.
We want to thank you for stopping in and, in particular, for considering us as a spot for
your next meeting or event. We are pleased to be able to offer a variety of rooms and menus
to meet the business and social needs of the people of the Upper Valley.
We’ve been exploring, dining and shopping here for years, and we’ve just got to say,
“Nice city you’ve got here!” From the historical Claremont Opera House and Broad Street Park
to the bustling shops of Washington Street to the informative, and fun historical sites,
farm stands and beautiful Sugar River, Claremont is our kind of city.
Now that we’ve sold you on the city in general, let us tell you how we can help you take advantage
of this première destination for your next business luncheon or special event.

The Wainshal Ballroom
The ballroom boasts stunning views of the Sugar River, high ceilings, exposed beams
with inverted trusses and brick walls that enhance the beauty of the historic mill
building. The more than 2,500 square foot event space will include a large welcome
area for registration or exhibit and vendor space. In addition, there is space
available for break out sessions. Accommodating 100-200 guests.
Our Common Man Restaurant
High ceilings, leather banquettes, cozy nooks for conversation,
fireplace and bar area for pre-event cocktails, aged wood floor for dancing
- all of the atmosphere and one-of- a-kind amenities
to help make your special event truly memorable. Accommodating 50 – 150 guests
for daytime events ending prior to 3 p.m.

Our inviting event room is perfect for a quaint rehearsal dinner or private meeting.

We are pleased to offer several different beverage service options designed to fit the needs of all types of groups and
events. Please note that sales and service of alcoholic beverages are regulated by the state. State law prohibits guests
from bringing any alcoholic beverages into the hotel.
Beverage Package Options
All beverage package options require a minimum of one-hour of service and are based on a pre-arranged number of
guests and time period.
Open Bar
Open bar packages feature an unlimited beverage service at no charge to your guests. Charges are based on a flat rate
per guests for a pre-arranged number of hours.
Hosted Bar
Hosted bar packages are available at no charge to your guests. Charges are based on the actual number of drinks that
are served.
Cash Bar
Cash bar packages require your guests to pay for each beverage at the time of service. Cash bars are inclusive of

We’re not too keen on a bunch of policies, but we should iron a few things out before
your big (or small) event so that everything goes smoothly. So, find your glasses and take a look at
our Fine Print. Questions? That’s what we’re here for!
On Planning and Paying for Your Event
- A deposit equal to 50% of your food & beverage estimate is due at the time of signing the
contract in order to reserve your date. This fee is nonrefundable unless notice of cancellation
is given at least 30 days prior to the date of your event.
- Final guaranteed guest count is the number that you will be billed for, unless of course, you
have more guests attend.
- Total payment for your event is due no later than the day of the event.
- All food and beverage costs are subject to a 9% NH Rooms and Meals Tax and a 20% service
gratuity.
- All rates are based on a maximum usage time of 4 hours. Planning a longer event? We can
work something out!
On Planning the Menu for Your Event
- All menu selections need to be made at least 14 days prior to your event.
- Final guarantees for your function are due 3 business days prior to the event & cannot be
reduced thereafter.
- If notification of final attendance is not received by this deadline, you will be charged for the
highest number of people on the original banquet order sheet.
- All food and beverage is to be provided by the Common Man with exception of specialty cakes;
cutting fee of .99 per person will be applied.
- The New Hampshire Liquor Commission requires that the Common Man supply all alcoholic
beverages consumed at your event. Any guest consuming or passing alcoholic beverages must
be able to provide appropriate identification.
Event Room Inclusions & Upgrades
- The following is a list of items that are complimentary: House linen, flatware, china, glassware,
tables and chairs, podium, easel, dry erase board, TV/DVD combo and Wi-Fi internet
- Additional upgrades are priced as follows per day: LCD projector-$100, flip chart with markers$25, microphone-$25, speaker phone-$25

- Please note that the Common Man does not have an A/V technician on the property. Please
call in advance of your function with special requests or set-up questions.
- The Common Man is a non-smoking facility. The designated smoking area is clearly marked
and located outside of the restaurant. Smoking is not permitted in front of the building.
- All decorations must be pre-approved by our Common Man Event Coordinator. We do not
allow the use of rice, confetti, birdseed, sequins, flower petals and bubbles.
- Per health and food quality standards, all food will be removed from the event space two hours
after being delivered. In addition, we are not allowed to have food from your event leave the
premises.
- Complimentary parking is offered in the covered garage at the intersection of Water St &
Rte.12/Main St, next to the restaurant on Mill Ave., in front of the Inn on Water St, or across
the walking bridge on North St. For your convenience, both buildings have short-term drop off
areas directly in front of the entrance doors.
