Upcoming Reunions If you are interested in researching any branch of your family, the 2012 Dillman Mega-Reunion is designed for you. We’ll be visiting the marvelous facilities of the Allen County Library - one of the best genealogical libraries in the country. The hotel is very nice and is close to the airport, with room rates around $70.00 (plus tax) per night. Registration information will be in the next newsletter. A Dillmann visitor from Germany will be speaking about his family tree in Germany. The DFA Library/Archives will be updated and easier to use at this year’s Mega-Reunion. 1 DILLMAN DESCENDANTS & ANCESTORS 1. Allen County Library, here we come! Rex Dillman from Buchanan Mi. visited the Allen County Library last summer. And found that the building had been recently renovated and the main entrance was expanded. However, the free parking lot and street parking had been removed and all parking downtown had a fee of $7.00 to use any lot or garage. There is free parking 4 blocks from the library on side streets. He found that the computer room was updated and people no longer have to wait in line to use them. The microflim rooms were updated, as well. The genealogy section is on second floor. Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday-Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Sundays from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. 2. Be sure to use the library's online catalog to prepare for your trip. They have one of the largest research collections available, incorporating records from around the world. Theirr staff specializes in genealogy and is always available to help. 2012 Dillman Mega-Reunion to be in Ft. Wayne, Indiana More info about the Best Western Luxbury Inn: They have an outside vendor that supplies the available hot meals such as scrambled eggs, etc. There are many restaurants, sit-down or fast food, within a very short walking distance. The meeting rooms are located right by the elevator and has an attached, oneperson bathroom, and a kitchenette with a sink and small refrigerator at the back of the room. They do have a tiny “business center” which only fits a small desk with a computer, and chair with no room for anything else. With WIFI throughout and most folks bringing their own laptop computers, that isn’t a real issue anymore. The entire chain of Best Western hotels was the first to mandate that WIFI had to be available throughout each hotel. They have television remotes with a unique thick “skin” that prevents buttons from getting clogged and dirt from accumulating. Their housekeeping program has one person to strip the bed linens, a different person to make the beds, and still another person to inspect the rooms. They also utilize Ultra-Violet lights to look for additional “invisible” stains. The rooms smell clean. 2 DILLMAN DESCENDANTS & ANCESTORS 3. More Genealogy Interest From Germany I ran across your website and thought maybe you could help me. My late grandparents would receive shoes and hotplates from Germany with the Dihlmann name engraved on them but I do not know the address from which they came. I also acquired a coat of arms (shown below) which was also sent to my grandparents from Germany. Do you know how I can find who the living persons these are connected to in Germany? Thanks. Gary Dihlmann Quality Field Specialist, Operational Excellence Manheim o-615.762.2675 | c-615.517.7554 [email protected] Note: The translation for Geschlecht shows that it is a noun and means any of the following: sex, gender, race, generation, family, lineage, organ, or house. 3 DILLMAN DESCENDANTS & ANCESTORS 4. Genealogy Research Odds and Ends Dillman DNA Project Update from Andrew Stillman We now have full results for participant 215321, whose Dillman ancestors have been traced back to Southern Russia. The results indicate that this participant belongs to the most common Haplogroup, being R1b1a2. Further, the results are not close to the other R1b1a2 groups already in our study. Hence, we have found the 15th unique Dillman lineage in our study. Genealogy Websites I’m sure most of you have heard of Cyndi’s List? They currently have links to more than 275,000 Websites to look up surnames, obituaries, ports of departures and entry, military records, wills, census information and more. Check them out at www.CyndisList.com. From a 1987 Vernal Express Elmer Dillman, son of Simon Peter “Pete” Dillman and brother of Ray Dillman, was an early embalmer in Vernal, Utah, having graduated from the Eccles School of Embalming. An announcement in the Vernal Express newspaper dated June 27, 1907, read “H. E. Dillman Licensed Embalmer, Undertaker, and Funeral Director. Special Attention Given to Fumigating. Can always be found at the Vernal Drug Store.” Money was scarce early in his practice, competing with an established undertaker. Thus, in 1912, Elmer worked at Vernal Drug, Ashley Co-op, and the Vogue Theatre. 4 DILLMAN DESCENDANTS & ANCESTORS 5. ―DILLMAN REUNIONS‖ Several groups of Dillmans hold reunions in different locations each year.
