2016 convention
‘Au Revoir’ Issue July 2016 One week has passed since we said our au revoirs to our lovely, friendly, fun-loving, supportive pre-Conventioneers in Cumbria and Southend. Some of you are home whilst others are still enjoying their extended holiday in England, Scotland or mainland Europe. Some of you may even be back at work (I must look that word up in the dictionary to see what it means). Wherever you are and whenever you get the opportunity to read this ‘Au Revoir’ Update, the Saps At Sea would like to thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts, for joining us in Southend. It was wonderful to have you in our home town and on our trips for those days before the International Convention. With our smaller group it felt that we all got to know one another and this created a special bond between us that I will never forget. Thank you dear friends. Daves Simpson & Dearle, ‘Mad Paul’ and Rogerrrrrrr THE CASE OF THE EXCESS SUITCASES Not an episode from ‘Perry Mason’, more a challenge for the ‘Perry Winkle’ team. Apologies if your journey north was delayed whilst we ‘solved’ the unexpected problem. The advantage for everyone on the coach was that you didn’t have to listen to Cliff and his jokes! They say that you can’t fit a pint into a quart pot. Tell me that again. “Well, if you have a fit in a pot, you can’t have a quart, only some cents. And if you haven’t got any sense, then you are well qualified for being a Sap At Sea’. B.S. When I returned the van last Monday, I found five suitcases, two backpacks, one wheelchair and Cliff’s book of jokes in the rear. I sold everything on E-bay except Cliff’s joke book which didn’t reach the reserve price of one cent. WET, WET, WET OK, it rained on Tuesday afternoon when we were in London, but that didn’t stop us having fun, did it folks? The show must go on! Why didn’t we think of this? We would love to have a selection of YOUR pre-Convention photographs on our website, www.saps-at-sea.co.uk This is administered by Paul Marshall whilst Dave Fox administers our Facebook page. I know that some of you have already shared photos on other sites. If you are able to pass your photos onto Paul and/or Dave, then we can add them on for you. Thank you. I have copied this Update circulation to Paul and Dave. Many thanks photographers. ++++++++++++++++++++++ Thank you for all the kind comments and nice things that were written in the Guest Book that was circulated in the coach. I think most people have had the opportunity to write something, but if you haven’t and/or you wish to add anything, then send it to me by e-mail and I will add it in. I will be going to the Park Inn Palace hotel tomorrow to share the comments with the management. I also intend to pass on the general comments about Southend with our local council. ++++++++++++++++++++++ Her Royal Highness at Old Leigh-on-Sea The Sons that were on the Jack the Ripper trip in London spotted Prince Charles. However I can go one better than that. When I was in Old Leigh on the Sunday, I spotted HRH Queen Elizabeth shopping. I was so excited that I wanted to point her out to Tiziano Medicini who entered the shop with me. However, he was nowhere to be seen at that time. I spoke to her and she said “Oh it would be divine to come to Italy with you all for the European Convention in 2019. I will travel lightly with just one case, but I would like to take my four pet corgi dogs”. Perry Winkle Press Over the last couple of weeks, you can’t help to have noticed several items printed by Perry Winkle Press. These have included the postcards in the Goody Bags, the pre-Convention programme, the International Convention programme, Da-Doo-Ron-Ron book, ‘UlverSTAN’ book, A Spot of Trouble in Southend’ book, and The Perry Winkle quarterly magazine. Thank you to everyone who bought any of the books whilst you were here. Now that you are all back home, if you now wish to buy any of the books, I can offer 25% discount for preConventioneers for ‘UlverSTAN’ and ‘A Spot of Trouble in Southend’ books (£7.50 each) + postage and Ron’s book is £5 + postage. For further details, please contact me. The Perry Winkle The Perry Winkle is the quarterly magazine ‘for Sons of the Desert’ everywhere. The 16 page A4 glossy colour magazine is always full of unusual articles with a number of regular contributors. It has grown from a tent newsletter into a sought after L & H magazine with a growing circulation in Europe and America. We have kept the cost of the magazine the same for twelve years! Increase in post does mean that we have to reflect this. Cost, including postage is £12 to UK, 20 Euros to Europe and $30 to USA. If you would like to become a ‘Stowaway Sap’ please contact me. We would love to have you aboard. The more the merrier! Thank you. Stanley, I wonder why the Southend beach is so quiet? Ollie, I think it is because the Southend Hors D’Oeuvres has finished.
