December 15th Downtown Plymouth Weekly Update PLYMOUTH DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY Christmas Concert at the Plymouth District Library Lee Murdock & The Christmas Tree Ship Concert: Great Lakes Maritime History on Sunday, December 14, at 3:00 p.m., at the Plymouth District Library Noted as a fluent instrumentalist on six and twelve-string guitars, Lee Murdock combines ragtime, Irish, blues and folk styles with a flair for storytelling in songs. Taking snapshots from history, he summons the listener to look through the eyes and into the hearts of individuals who have shaped our heritage on and around the Great Lakes. His Christmas Ship Concert combines music and stories of the Inland Seas with holiday songs for the start of the season. Journey to the port of Chicago in the early 1900s, imagine the brick, stone, and wood buildings that rose three or four stories, lining the Chicago River in the bustling port. In November, as the weather became more unpredictable, shipping on Lake Michigan would begin to slow, making the arrival of the Christmas tree ship even more momentous. Chicago residents would scurry down to the dock, the scent of fresh-cut Michigan pine thick in the air as they picked out their Christmas trees. Lee has been presenting Christmas Ship Concerts annually for over 20 years. Downtown Plymouth Weekly Update PLYMOUTH DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY Teddy Bears to Rain Down at Whalers Game Dec. 6 (Plymouth, MI) The Plymouth Whalers and Plymouth Community United Way are hoping it will rain a torrent of teddy bears after the hockey team scores its’ first goal at Compuware Arena Saturday, Dec. 6. The annual Teddy Bear Toss not only provides toys to brighten the holidays of needy children, but comfort them in shelters and traumatic situations throughout the year. Last year, more than 800 teddy bears were thrown onto the ice creating an avalanche of stuffed animals. This year, fans are being asked to bring a bevy of bears to top that total. The fun begins at 7:05 p.m. For information, call Randi Williams at (734) 453-8679, ext. 7 or email [email protected]. For tickets, call (734) 453-8400 or visit plymouthwhalers.com.
