About The Lamport House China Shoppe:

Kara Lamport, proprietor, and Karen Lamport operate The Lamport House. They have a unique artistic past-time that
has blossomed into a business they share today. It all began with a hobby picked up by Karen’s mother, Caroline, who
began painting fine porcelain china while wintering in Arizona with her husband. Soon, she had purchased the
equipment to continue at home in South Dakota, sharing her new-found passion with her daughter and granddaughter.
It was not long before family and friends took notice of the beautiful work being done, inquiring as to whether or not
they could purchase pieces. The Lamport House China Shoppe began to take shape all on its own.
Karen and Kara have natural artistic ability that allows them to create their product with relative ease. Running a
business was not as effortless, but definitely within the range of their talents. The two have spent a great deal of time
learning all the aspects of operating a business; from employing national sales representatives, to budgeting, marketing,
bookkeeping, and all other “behind-the-scenes” tasks imperative to a successful business. The original business plan for
The Lamport House was to sell their products to wholesalers. Recently, however, the business has decided to branch off
in a new direction by marketing the products to individual customers. Kara has spent a great of time and talent in
revamping the business website (www.lamporthouse.com), adding a shopping cart and the opportunity to reach
individual customers directly. They are also expanding to include their products in places such as amazon.com and other
specialty sites.
Each hand-painted/hand-designed piece of china is a one-of-a-kind product replicated after fine vintage pieces from a
time gone by. The pieces have made their way all over the world and into the hands of celebrities such as Oprah
Winfrey, Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, Martha Stewart, Drew Barrymore, and Regis and Kelly. A fan base like that is
definitely something to be proud of! From its secluded location in rural South Dakota, The Lamport House China Shoppe
continues to grow and evolve!

white ware) and we put much care into each and every piece that we paint. We take
great pleasure in creating items that are unique and beautiful.
The gold that we use to hand-detail each piece is rated 23 karats for a true, bright, and
reflective gold finish. This is “the real stuff”. The platinum gives a bright silver finish
that will not tarnish. These lovely real metallic details truly finish off each item
stunningly.
Since EVERY item is customized by you, the client, thousands of designs can be
created, using any piece of porcelain and adding any of our floral patterns, muted
background colors, gold OR platinum detailing. PLUS, The Lamport House features
personalization for ANY occasion.
