The History of Balzano
(More than 100 years of experience in serving worldwide kitchens)
1908
Cravetto company, owned by Guinzio Rossi, becomes the largest producer
of aluminum household items in Italy. Rossi partners with architect Carlo
Molino to become a pioneer of futuristic household design.
1970s
Rossi’s company acquired by Savino Balzano. The newly formed company
experiences one of its most prosperous decades. Balzano hires Marco
Zanuso, Italy’s father of modern design, to design his stainless steel
appliances. Together, they design Balzano’s most famous products,
including the iconic Carmencita coffee pot. In conjunction with Lavazza,
Balzano’s Carmencita popularizes coffee making amongst all classes.
1990s
Balzano was once again independently owned and a favored partner of
European cookware brands such as WMF in Germany, Spring in Switzerland,
and Lavazza and Sambonet in Italy. Balzano has renewed its original
commitment to crafting quality metalware for your home.
2015
Born in the steel plants of Italy and perfected for over a century, Balzano’s
innovative products make for a more brilliant kitchen. Form meets function in such
a way that our products are not only easy on the eyes, but on the chef – our
cookware works harder, so you don’t have to. Welcomed and renowned in
professional kitchens worldwide, Balzano now invites you to experience its quality
and craftsmanship first-hand.
Balzano has its beginnings in the Cravetto steel plant of Verres, Italy. The Cravetto
factory was the first in the world to use electric ovens to melt aluminum.
1936
Enrietti, an industrialist from Pont Saint Martin, joins the group. He introduces a
novel concept: stainless steel pots and pans with multi-ply bottoms. Their products
were sold throughout Italy first, then to France, Belgium and whole Europe.
1980s
Balzano acquired by Swiss porcelain company, Langenthal. During this period,
Balzano cookware becomes the preferred choice for professional chefs and five-star
hotels such as Four Seasons & Alder hotels . In conjunction with Lavazza, Balzano’s
Carmencita popularizes coffee making amongst all classes
2013
Balzano has a long history in making respected cookware and iconic coffee pots. In
the modern era, Balzano is successfully diversifying into the manufacture of small
home appliances, including coffee machines and coffee products.
History & Designers of Balzano
Balzano originated in 1908 in the Italian town of Verres which has been rich in iron since the time of the Romans. This is where a steel plant named
Cravetto was built at the start of the industrial revolution. The Cravetto factory was ahead of it’s time and was the first in the world to use electric ovens to
melt aluminum.
In 1936 Cravetto steel plant gave birth to the company Guinzio Rossi, which became the largest producer of aluminum household items all across Italy.
Guinzio Rossi was a pioneer in both household design and architecture and advanced the futuristic movement with the help of the famous architect Carlo
Molino. Together they designed and built futuristic household items and furniture.
The company experienced it’s most prosperous years when it was acquired by Savino Balzano in the 1980s. He enticed Italy’s most famous designer
during that time period, Marco Zanuso, to design his stainless steel kitchen items. Marco Zanuso fathered the Modern Design movement and sought to
bring imaginative and minimalist designs to household accessories which would otherwise be ordinary.
Balzano’s most famous products, most notably the iconic Carmencita coffee pot nicknamed ¡§ La Kicca¡¨ . In conjunction with Lavazza, this coffee pot
was monumental in popularizing coffee-making amongst both the wealthy and working classes.
Langenthal
In the 90s, Balzano was acquired by the Swiss porcelain company Langenthal which further strengthened it’s brand power as a major player in the
housewares market. It was during this period of growth that Balzano cookware was welcomed into the kitchens of professional chefs and five-star hotels.
Its products were supplying to Four Seasons hotel, Alder hotel & Disneyland Paris
Balzano has cooperated with Giorgetto Giugiaro, a famous Italian automobile designer, to design its cookware and coffee maker. Lots of futuristic ideas
of Balzano’s products were generated during the period of their cooperation.
In 2013, Balzano was once again independently owned and has renewed to it’s original commitment to producing quality hand-crafted metal wares for
which it was so famous. Design and production is still based in Italy and as a result, Balzano is the favored partner to produce the highest quality
cookware for other companies such as WMF in Germany, Spring in Switzerland, Lavazza and Sambonet in Italy. From stylish Zanuso-era coffee pots to
multi-ply copper cookware, Balzano combines the best of Italian style and workmanship for the kitchen.
Today, Balzano is successfully diversifying into small home appliance, coffee machine & coffee related products. And it found the most famous Italian
designer Pino Spagnolo to design their futuristic and innovative cookware, home appliance & coffee machine.
