Mowers and Ride-ons
The Lawnflite range has been completely revised, complete with
attractive new styling and smart new livery. And the changes
are more than cosmetic. The new bonnet reduces noise, there
are new cutting decks and many of the models feature more
powerful engines from Briggs & Stratton and Kawasaki to increase
performance.
New from Husqvarna is their R111B. This is a completely new model
in a compact package. It is an articulated machine which features
an 85cm bioclip deck for an even cut. Also new from Husqvarna are
the R18 and R15T range. With changes to both engines and decks,
these are the machines of power, versatility and high capacity. They
really come into their own in narrow and irregularly shaped grounds.
Not to be outdone, there is new styling and new twin cylinder
Kawasaki engines in the Cub Cadet range. Look out for the Front
Cut 48 with its new 48” rear discharge facility.
All in all, there are plenty of new products to see in our showrooms.

pieces of equipment, it’s not always possible for you to take
it away with you. In these cases we will deliver at a time
convenient to you. The same can be said for servicing and
repair requirements.
In these cases we can either arrange to collect and return
the machine, or we can service it at your premises using one
of our many mobile technicians and service vans.
We’ve been looking after customers for over a hundred
years and we have 19 branches across the south east of

Selecting the right mower or
machine for your garden

There are many criteria to take into consideration when purchasing a new lawn mower. The
following will give you some pointers to help steer you in the right direction. Remember that
our staff are trained to help you select what’s right for you.
Automower
An Automower will mow your lawn in random patterns cutting the
grass frequently, while the small clippings are returned to the lawn to
form fertiliser. Giving you a greener lawn with no work at all.
Electric or petrol
Some people prefer the convenience of electric, but you are limited
by length of cable, supply of electricity and the size of garden. Petrol
gives you the flexibility to use the machine anywhere.
Rotary or cylinder
Cylinder mowers give you that traditional striped finish and the ability
to give you a closer finish without scalping your lawn. The quality
of cut is superior, because the cutting action is similar to a pair of
scissors.
4 wheel or rotary roller
4 wheel machines are more suitable for uneven and rougher areas
of grass. Rear roller machines leave a neat stripe for a traditional
manicured appearance and allow the machine to cut over
lawn edges.
Push or self propelled
Self propelled means that the engine drives the roller or the wheels
as well as the cutting mechanism. Push machines are usually small
and compact making them manoeuvrable in smaller lawns.
Grass collection or Mulching
Using a mulching mower the grass cuttings are diverted back into
the blades for additional particle cutting and are then filtered back
down into the turf and out of sight where they rapidly and naturally
decompose.
Recoil start or electric start
Simple and convenient, the electric start takes the strain out of
starting the mower, and is fitted in addition to the standard recoil
pull-start.
Pedestrian or ride-on
Ride-on mowers take the effort out of cutting the grass. If your lawn
is 670sq m (size of a tennis court) or above, there is a
ride-on machine suitable for you. Some of our cylinder mowers are
also available with a ride-on option.

There are some basic rules to mulching including not cutting off more
than a third of the grass leaf at a time, and not cutting the grass any
lower than 1”.
The figures used below are to be used as a general guide to
help identify the machine suitable for a specific area of grass.

Lawn care tips
Keep your lawn in tip top shape
by following this monthly year planner.
January/February
JULY
Treat grass with second
application of fertiliser. Water
in as necessary. Don’t cut the
grass too closely.
If weather is mild, occasionally
cut the grass, maintaining about
25mm of growth. Keep off the
grass if frozen or waterlogged.
March
AUGUST
Keep on mowing regularly and
watering as necessary. Fill in any
cracks caused by drought with a
mixture of sharp sand and soil.
Rake the grass thoroughly.
Spike the lawn all over and apply
lawn sand if necessary. Keep
mower blades high and just ‘top’
the grass.
APRIL
SEPTEMBER
Re-seed bare patches, apply
fertilisers and mosskiller
towards the end of the month.
Mow regularly, lowering the
blades gradually.
MAY
Raise mower blades to allow the grass
to thicken and protect roots from winter
frost and snow. Apply Autumn-Winter
fertiliser, weedkiller and mosskiller.
OCTOBER

Treat with selective weedkillers
or combined weed/feed
preparations if you haven’t fed
the lawn in April.
JUNE
Rake out thatch from turf and
spike lawn to assist drainage.
Brush in soil and sharp sand.
Continue cutting as necessary.
NOVEMBER/DECEMBER
Mow lawns twice a week if
possible working to a definite
pattern. Water grass if necessary,
remembering to soak thoroughly.
Use a stiff broom to remove
wormcasts from the grass. Don’t
mow if very wet as this will compact
the soil and encourage waterlogging.
