Oblate School of Theology People of Pilgrimage: Listening for the Heartbeat of God Fourth Annual Contemplative Retreat The Fourth Annual Contemplative Retreat with Lecture Series People of Pilgrimage: Listening for the Heartbeat of God Featuring Rev. John Philip Newell New: two “tracks” Choose either: 1) A three-evening lecture series with John Phillip Newell or 2) A four day contemplative retreat with John Philip Newell including time for silence Listening for the Heartbeat of God John Philip Newell has found the spiritual roots of Celtic spirituality in the New Testament, specifically in the mysticism of St. John the Evangelist. At the Last Supper, John leaned against Jesus’ chest and heard the heartbeat of God. This event became a Celtic image for listening to God in all of life. In this retreat we will reflect on a spirituality for today modeled on vital characteristics of Celtic spiritualty through the ages, especially emphasizing the essential goodness of Creation and of humanity made in the image of God.
