As we prepare for our upcoming Thanksgiving holiday (and yes even Christmas) we begin to look towards giving and sharing and how we celebrate in our families and parish. Recently a book was published entitled The Paradox of Generosity in which the authors shared their research on the joy and happiness of those who are generous with their time, talent and treasure.
They confirmed what our Gospel teaches; those who are generous and share abundantly of their gifts
from God have an inner joy that gives them life…not just spiritual but physical health too. The authors
write: “there is more than one way to be impoverished. Some people live in poverty because they do not
have the income to buy adequate food, shelter, clothes and medicine. But some people who have a lot of money can
live in a different kind of poverty. Theirs is a poverty of anxiety, of imagined scarcity, of vulnerability, of dissatisfaction…
Such people find it hard to relax, to celebrate, to truly enjoy, to be thankful, to share.”(75)
Generosity is life giving and opens our eyes to see and serve our brothers and sisters in love. God’s generosity is not
only about money, it is about the change in attitude towards how we are called to share of our time, talent and treasure
as good stewards of life. We find the joy of life when we give life, share life and bless life in the abundance of God’s

be on November 26, 2015 at 9AM. You may
bring food to be blessed during the mass. A
Thanksgiving Prayer will be inserted in the
November 21-22, 2015 bulletin for families to
use during their Thanksgiving meal.
SVDP/OUTREACH
The St. Lucy Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will be starting to receive donations of
food for the Parish's Christmas Basket Program
the weekend of November 21st thru December
13th. See Christmas Basket Flyer at the back of
this Bulletin and on our website for the list of food
items that we need. We will also have a special food and monetary collection at the Thanksgiving Day Mass in support of our
programs.
The Saint Lucy Community really stepped up and made our Life
Teen/Confirmation Retreat a
huge success! Thank you to all
of those that made it happen
and to all the teens for living out
your faith and saying YES to an
unforgettable weekend with
Christ. Please continue to pray for these teens and all of the
young people that have yet to experience the love of Jesus. See
you all next year, 'till then "May His force be with you always!"

contact you. The Giving Tree Flyer will be published next weekend when the Giving Trees will be available for you to choose
which presents you want to give to help with making Christmas a
joyous holiday for the needy in our community.
This year we would like your help in obtaining egg cartons so we
can buy eggs in bulk for the Christmas Baskets. Please bring
your cartons to Mass on the weekend of November 21st and 22nd
and place them in the Giving Tree boxes.

Mientras nos preparamos para nuestra próxima fiesta de Acción de Gracias (incluso Navidad) empezamos a ver como compartimos y cómo celebramos en nuestras familias y en la parroquia. Recientemente se publicó un libro titulado The Paradox of Generosity endone los autores compartieron su
investigación sobre la felicidad de los que son generosos con su tiempo, talento y tesoro.
Confirmaron lo que enseña nuestra Evangelio; aquellos que son generosos y comparten en abundancia de sus dones tienen una alegría interior que les da vida... no sólo espiritual, sino en salud física también. Los
autores escriben: "hay más de una manera de ser empobrecido. Algunas personas viven en la pobreza, ya que no tienen los ingresos para comprar alimentos, ropa y medicinas. Pero algunas personas que tienen mucho dinero pueden
vivir un tipo diferente de pobreza. La suya es una pobreza de ansiedad, de vulnerabilidad, de insatisfacción. Tales personas no pueden relajarse, celebrar, disfrutar realmente, agrader, y compartir. "(75)
La generosidad abre nuestros ojos para ver y servir a nuestros hermanos y hermanas en el amor. La generosidad de
Dios no es sólo en forma de dinero, es el cambio de actitud en la que estamos llamados a compartir parte de nuestro
tiempo, talento y tesoro como buenos administradores de la vida. Encontramos la alegría de la vida cuando damos la

PROGRAM 2015
We are called to help those who are less fortunate. It is with great joy in our hearts that we announce our
Christmas St. Vincent de Paul/Outreach Program.
The Christmas Food Basket Program is a long-standing tradition at St. Lucy Parish. Each basket provides the food for a
complete Christmas dinner. Families who receive Christmas Baskets come from St. Lucy Parish or reside at the Sobrato
Family Living Center.
Non-perishable food for the Christmas Baskets will be collected from
Saturday, November 21th through Sunday, December 13th
All St. Lucy Parishioners are encouraged to bring non-perishable food to Mass and place them in the baskets at the entrances to the Church. Please check to see that the items donated are not spoiled, damaged or out-of-date. All food
donated will be accepted, excluding any home-canned products i.e. preserves, etc. We try to make each basket identical except for quantities that are based on family size.
NON-PERISHABLES NEEDED:
Yams/Sweet Potatoes - 15 oz. can
Cranberry sauce - 16 oz. can
Vegetables - 15 oz. can
Fruit - 15 oz. can
Hominy – 6 lb. can
Sugar – 4 or 5 lb. bag
Cake Mix - 18 oz. box
Frosting - 12 oz. can
Flour - 5 lb. bag
Rice - 2 lb. bag
Jello/Pudding - 6 oz. box (large size)
Stuffing – 6 oz. box
Dried Mashed Potatoes – 12-16 oz. box
Dried Beans – 2 lb. bag
PERISHABLES NEEDED: We put the following perishable items in each Christmas Basket.

Ham (5 lb. can), Bone in Ham (6-8 lbs) or Turkey (10-12 lbs.)
Dinner Rolls (12-24)
Potatoes (3-5 lb bag)
To provide funds towards the purchase of perishables - Make checks payable to St. Lucy Conference, St. Vincent de Paul, and leave your check at the Parish Office, put it in a Sunday collection basket or leave it at the Outreach
Office by Monday, December 14th.
If you wish to purchase perishables yourself, please call the Outreach Office at 408-378-8086 by Monday, December 14th, and leave your name and phone number, along with what you will be donating. Deliver the perishables that you
have pledged to the St. Lucy School gym on Friday, December 18th between 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.

You can help in the following ways:
After each Weekend Mass from November 21st through December 13h - Move food from the collection baskets
at the entrances of the Church to the Art & Environment Room at the front of the Church – VTA side
Mondays from November 22nd to December 14th – Move food presents and food from the Art & Environment
Room to the Container or PAC C, sort presents and deliver in afternoon – starts after 8 am Mass.
Thursday, December 17th starting at 9:00 am – Assemble boxes and set-up the school gym. We will need people
with pickups & vans to help move the food from the Container to the gym
Friday, December 18th between 3:00 – 6:00 pm - Receive perishable donations at the gym
Saturday, December 19th from 8:00 am – noon - Fill and distribute Christmas Baskets
If you know of a St. Lucy family or are a St. Lucy family that is in need of a Christmas Food Basket, please call us at 408378-8086. You will be asked to come to the Outreach Office between November 16th and December 11th to sign-up for
a Christmas Food Basket.

Estamos llamados a ayudar a aquellos que son menos afortunados. Es con gran alegría que anunciamos nuestro programa de servicios sociales para las fiestas de 2015.
El Programa de Canastas Navideñas es una vieja tradición en la Parroquia de Santa Lucia. Cada canasta tiene la
comida necesaria para una cena de Navidad completa. Las familias que reciben las Canastas Navideñas vienen de la
Parroquia de Santa Lucia o residen en el Sobrato Living Center para familias.
Alimentos no perecederos para las Canastas Navideñas se colectarán semanalmente desde el:
Sábado, 21 de Noviembre hasta el Domingo, 13 de Diciembre
Todos los feligreses de Santa Lucia, están invitados a traer alimentos no perecederos a Misa y colocarlos en los cestos
que se encuentra en el Santuario. Le pedimos que verifiquen que los artículos donados no están en mal estado, dañados o pasados de fecha. Se aceptan todos los alimentos donados, con la excepción de productos hechos en casa. Se
necesita lo siguiente:

Camotes/Batatas – lata 15 onzas
Azúcar – bolsa de 5 libras
Relleno para pavos – caja 6 onzas
Mezcla de puré de papas – caja 12-16 onzas
Harina de trigo – bolsa de 5 onzas
