PREPARATION
Imagine the following scene: you sit down in your school desk. The teacher walks
the aisle, placing the paper before you, face down. You set your watch. You will
have exactly one hour to do the test. You turn the paper over. Then it hits you: you
never took any notes. You never studied or did even one assignment. For a student,
lack of preparation is the nightmare of nightmares.
Jesus talks about the need for preparation in today’s Gospel. God is pleased to give
us the kingdom, Jesus says. “Gird your loins and light your lamps.” See that you are
prepared.
Jesus’ teaching reminds us of the question once posed to St. Francis de Sales and
his companions, who, according to the story, were playing billiards. “What would you
do if you knew the end of the world was coming in one hour?” The friends of Francis
shared various plottings of how they would get their affairs in order. Most mentioned
prayer. Francis shrugged, “I would continue doing what I am doing.” Are you ready
to meet the Lord?

Catechism Classes
The Scripture Study Group will be examining John's Book
of Revelation in an 8 week course on Monday evenings starting August 19, at 7:00 pm in the PAC. And, for
the first time, we will be running the very same course on
Saturday mornings, starting August 24, at 10:30 am in the
PAC. All are invited to attend, and no previous bible study
experience is necessary. If you have questions you can
contact Jim Miller at 408-377-5070. The suggested donation is $15 to cover the cost of the books.
Registration for the 1st year,
2nd year and continuing of
Catechism and Confirmation will begin on August 1st,
2013. Registration forms will be available at the Parish Office or at the Parish Website. We will accept
registrations up until September 5th.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY:
Please join us in one of the new ministries at St. Lucy. The
group will meet on the Second Wednesday of each month
at 11 am in the PAC room "C" where we will gather for
prayer as we knit or crochet our projects. Please join us at
our next meeting on Wednesday, August 14. Once a shawl
or lap throw is completed it will be blessed on the Third
Sunday Mass and given to the intended person. So please
join us in our knitting or crocheting circle. For more info,

PREPARACIÓN
Imagínate la siguiente escena: estás sentado en tu pupitre en la escuela. La maestra camina por el pasillo, y

En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús habla de la necesidad de prepararse. Dios estará encantado de darnos el reino, dice Jesús. “con la túnica puesta y las lámparas encendidas.” Prepárate.
Las enseñanzas de Jesús nos recuerdan la pregunta que una vez le hicieron a san Francisco de Sales y sus
compañeros, que, de acuerdo a la historia, estaban jugando billar. “¿Qué harían si les dijeran que el fin del

Estudio de Escrituras en Ingles
El Grupo de Estudio Bíblico en ingles examinará el libro
del Apocalipsis de Juan en un curso de 8 semanas los lunes a partir del 19 de agosto a las 7:00 pm en el PAC. Y,
por primera vez, estaremos corriendo el mismo curso los
sábados por la mañana, a partir del 24 de agosto a las
10:30 am en el PAC. Todos están invitados. No es necesario tener experiencia previa en el estudio bíblico. Si tiene

Ministerio del Mantón de Oración
