How are AFA nominees selected?
Feature films and filmmakers from the Asian region
demonstrating excellence in the arts and sciences of
filmmaking are considered. A panel of official Submission
Organizations comprising authoritative film organizations
from different territories, together with a panel of
professional jurors, determine the nominees and winners
from the eligible films produced and released theatrically
in the Asian region in that year.
Up to 6 nominees are selected in each of the 14
categories with the nomination list for the 4th AFA to be
announced in January 2010. The winners of the 4th AFA
will be announced during the AFA Presentation Ceremony
on March 22, 2010 at the Hong Kong Convention and
Exhibition Centre.
Who are the jurors?
The Jury consists of 13 film professionals with
internationally recognized experience and expertise in
cinema from 12 territories. International actress Michelle
YEOH, the awardee of the Chevalier of the French Legion
d’Honneur 2007 and a member of Jury of the Cannes Film
Festival 2002, served as the Jury President of the 3rd AFA.
There is also an international Advisory Board comprising
21 Honorary Advisors, 8 Steering Committee Members
and 4 Creative Consultants.
As a new initiative from the 4th AFA, all previous AFA
winners will be invited to join as an elite group of Voting
Members. Each member will be able to vote on the final
nominations to determine the winner.
The members of the jury and the Advisory Board are
listed in the AFA official website.
