2014 SDAC Quarterly Report: NIFT Patna January March JANUARY'14 1. Uttarayan- Kite Festival: A Kite festival was organized by NIFT Patna on the day of Makar Sankranti at the new campus which was celebrated with full enthusiasm & vigour by all the hostel girls and the faculties too. The girls took an active participation in the competition. Some were delighted to fly a kite for the first time ever and some were nostalgic remembering their childhood days. Street Play& Poster Making by ESSE club: ESSE club at NIFT Patna organized a street play performance on Domestic Violence on 24th January 2014 at Moin-ul-Haq stadium, Patna. Posters on Domestic Violence 3. Social Premier League: SPL started on 24th January 2014. Eight different colleges in and around Patna participated in the cricket tournament initially conceptualized by students of NIFT Patna in collaboration with Young India Patna chapter. Each college having adopted a social cause participated in this tournament to spread awareness about the causes. A cricket match in full swing during SPL 4. Republic Day Celebrations: On the occasion of Republic Day, NIFT Patna celebrated a day of patriotism where Ms. Shomby Goswami, student from FP Design hoisted the national flag! The student made history by not only topping the semester in FP but also by scoring the highest SGPA till date by any student at NIFT Patna. Zero Hour activities: Club Presidents and secretaries prepared a complete plan for the activities to be organized under each club. ESSE club organized an on- spot Caricature Making competition on the topic 'Corruption in Politics' which saw an enthusiastic participation by all students. Literary Club also organized a Poetry Writing Competition where entries from students were invited. The topics given were 'Patriotism', 'Unforgettable Memories' and also 'Friendship and Teachers'. 6. Participation in other college festivals: Students of NIFT Patna participated in the annual festival, Anwesha of IIT Patna in several activities like, Fashion Show, Photography, Atistix, Graffiti, Mudooz, Rangoli competition, etc and won several awards in the same. Saraswati Pooja Saraswati Puja was celebrated on the occasion of Vasant Panchmi on 4th February'14 at NIFT Patna. The event saw gathering of all the students, faculties and staff of NIFT Patna to worship the Goddess Saraswati- the goddess of knowledge on the occasion at the NIFT campus! 2. Presentation on Global Warming A presentation was made by the members of ESSE club on Global Warming on 5th February 14 to make the students aware about what global warming meant in totality and to educate the students how they can contribute and bring down the global warming and thus reduce the ecological imbalances. Flowerista A competition for students across all departments was organized on the occasion of Flowers Day on 7th February'14 under the Cultural Club where the students made interesting flowers. The event saw a variety of flowers, some exotic and some unseen designs. A student making a flower 4. Youth and Corruption A presentation was made by the members of ESSE club on the above topic. Through this presentation, the various aspects of corruption were elucidated upon. The connection between corruption and citizens was elaborated upon. It was also dwelt upon as to how youth and stand up against corruption in a structured manner and contribute towards eradication of corruption. Members of ESSE club making the presentation 5. Mad for Spectrum An event was organized prior to Spectrum 14 on 12th February'14 at NIFT Patna where the students were asked to dress up in a particular colour with all the accessories and make up. The students came up with different concepts within the given colour. Their madness for Spectrum were quiet eminent! 6. Skit on Food Wastage A skit was performed by the students of NIFT Patna on 14th February14 under the ESSE club depicting the wayward behaviour of students in general. It also showed the callous behaviour of the students towards food which is the critical and vital element of our lives when it is a well known fact that there are millions and millions of people who are deprived of basic amenities of life and who sleep every other day empty stomach. 7. Documentary Screening A documentary related to natural resources was screened on 19th February14 for making the students aware of the natural wealth which is getting depleted day by day. 8. Subsidy As per the instructions received from HO, all students in need of Subsidy were encouraged to apply for Bank Loan. However, a student from FP 2, who has lost both his parents in childhood was unable to get a loan and deposit the fee. With regard to his request, LASC was conducted on 14th February'14 and it was decided that the student may be granted a subsidy of 75%. 9. Spectrum Logo &Facebook Page A logo for Spectrum was designed and a Facebook page was started in the 1st week of February 14 which was updated on a regular basis with the latest updates regarding Spectrum events. https://www.facebook.com/spectrumpatna Pamphlets and other paraphernalia was also designed in order to attract sponsorships. 10. Indoor Sports Indoor sports like Chess, Carom, TT were organized since 3 weeks in advance of Spectrum14 during zero hours or after college hours which saw an enthusiastic participation by students of all batches. Art to Wear An Art to Wear competition was organized for the students of NIFT Patna which was open to students of all semesters and all departments. The competition required the students to use Recyclable materials to create ensembles. The competition concluded with a Fashion show organized on 28th February'14 at NIFT Patna campus which was dedicated in the loving memory of an alumni, Late Mr. Gaurav Vikrant Rai of NIFT Patna who died in the Bangalore Hyderabad bus accident in November13. Fashion Show for Lions Club: Students of NIFT Patna participated in management and coordination for a fashion show for the Lions Club, Patna where the students coordinated for the styling, choreography, music, modelling, etc. 13. Mr.& Ms. Spectrum 2014: Mr.& Ms. Spectrum was organized in the college campus on 27th February'14 along with several other events like, Junk Music, Eco Debate, Quiz, Fancy Fashion, etc. Student participating in Miss Spectrum 2014 Students participating in Fancy Fashion competition held on 27th February14 Many fun games were also organized by the Sports Club& by different batches. MARCH'14 1. Spectrum 2014: Spectrum 2014 was organized at NIFT Patna on 1st March'14 & 2nd March'14 initially, but due to Bihar Bandh called by the CM, the event had to be re-scheduled. The event was rescheduled to be organized on 1st March'14. Few inter college events were organized at NIFT campus on 27th February'14 under various clubs and others at the venue, Premchand Rangshala, Patna on 1st March'14. On 1st March'14, Spectrum 14 was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by Prof. Sanjay Shrivastava, Director, NIFT Patna; Mr. Shankar Jha, Joint Director- NIFT Patna; Mr. Udyan Singh, owner of UV group; Ms. Soma Chakraborty, eminent artist from Patna. It was followed by a Saraswati Vandana by one of the FP students. The fashion show was styled, choreographed, anchored, back staged, supported by students of NIFT Patna. The Fashion show in progress The annual festival came to an end with guests applauding the students on their achievement. The entire event was a huge hit and got rave reviews from everyone present. The event ended with a valedictory function where not only Spectrum winners but the meritorious students were also felicitated. 2. Students participation in Miss India Contest at Mumbai: Two students from NIFT Patna participated in the Miss India Contest held at Mumbai. These students were amongst the candidates shortlisted from the Eastern region of India. Students participation in Design Contest by FBB Femina Miss India 2014: Students from NIFT Patna participated in the National Contest by FBB Femina Miss India. Two students from FD 8 semester, Ms. Sonam Verma and Mr. Prashik Khandare who sent their garments, they are amongst the top 7 Winner Designers. One of the winner designers with his designs 4. Holi Celebrations: Holi was celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm and fervour on 14th March'14 by the faculties, staff and students. The festival was also celebrated with a lot of zeal by the hostel girls on the day of the Holi. 5. Interaction with NIFT Alumni: An interaction for the students of FD 4 and FP (D) with a NIFT Patna FD alumni, Mr. Ayush Kumar, Designer with Shahi Exports, Bangalore was organized on 25th March'14. Mr. Ayush briefed the students as to the requirements of the industry and emphasised on the key areas to focus on. Also an interaction for the MFM-2 with a NIFT Patna, FMS alumni, Mr. Swet Sinha from US Polo was organized on 24th March'14. 6. Participation in Other College Festivals Students from NIFT Patna participated in the annual festival of other colleges held during March and won many prizes in various competitions like duet singing, carom, etc. Students also participated in the gully cricket match organized by Chanakya National Law University Students from NIFT Patna at The CNLU annual festival
