Birla Institute of Technology, Patna Campus Birla Institute of Technology, Patna Campus was established in the year 2006 on the initiative of Govt. of Bihar. The institute came into existence by Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode under the flagship management of BIT Mesra. Shri Nitish Kumar, H’nble Chief Minister of Bihar laid the foundation stone in Dec 2005 under the able guidance of Dr. H. C. Pandey, VC (E), BIT Mesra and the patronage of Chairman MR G. P. Birla and Chancellor Mr. Syed Sibtey Razi (former Governor of Jharkhand) with the motto…. “Learning is that which liberates”. Initially the institute started with only three branches of engineering i.e. Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) and Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) with the intake of 40 students in each of these disciplines. The steady and fast growth of the institute is quite evident as the students intake doubled just in the second year of the academic session. Four new branches i.e. Information Technology (IT), Mechanical, Production and Civil Engineering were added to the existing ones. The institute has progressed by leaps and bounds since then and is now been considered as one of the best institute in the state of Bihar. The student admission is done 100% strictly through AIEEE ranks. It does not have any management quota/ seats. Infrastructure and Facilities: Located between the Bihar Veterinary College and the Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport, the sprawling campus is spread over an area of 25 acres with 5.25 lacs sq feet of academic space is well equipped with modern industries laboratories, library, adequate hostel accommodation for over 1200 students, staff quarters, guest house, dispensary, play ground, game courts (basket ball, volley ball, football, cricket, lawn tennis), gymnasium and a large auditorium with sitting capacity of over 1000 people. Language Laboratory Language laboratory is a technically savvy lab to hone the communication competence of both native and non native speakers of English. It consists of a teacher console providing the control function and a student console with the facility to receive, record, listen to the pronunciation and replay student’s own recording. Language is essential for expressing ideas, opinions, views and emotions. English is the most common medium of communication in the global education scenario. Job interviews without exception are carried out in English. Communication in modern times has become a language driven by soft skills. The personality of a job seeker is developed not merely by virtue of his IQ but also on the basis of EQ (Emotional Quotient) i.e. the learner should be equipped to understand the subtle emotional and cultural nuances and react aptly. Hostel Facilities There are four Wi-Fi hostels, three for boys and one for girls, with mess, common room, T.V. room, security staffs to ensure safety and discipline round the clock. Hostels are compulsory for all B.E. girl students. Ragging, gambling in any form, use of alcoholic drinks and smoking are strictly prohibited. Any violation to the hostel rules calls for disciplinary and harsh punitive actions. Medical Facilities The institute has a medical centre or dispensary. There are two doctors, one gynecologist visiting the centre at specified hours and the students can consult them without any charge. Play Ground and Game Courts The sports committees of BIT provide facilities for outdoor sports such as Basket Ball, Volley Ball, Lawn Tennis, Football, Cricket, etc. as well as indoor games like Table Tennis, Carom and many more. Utilities and Services Canteen, Cafeteria, ATM, medical centre, campus shop, photocopying facilities, music and creative arts club house, gymnasium, yoga-hall, auditorium are all located within the campus. Life on Campus BIT is an ‘experience’ which one lives for four years, but cherishes for lifetime. BIT is an extremely closed knit family, with the entire gamut of professors and their families, students from various disciplines, and the staff, living together in a symbiotic relationship. This BIT-bonding has to be seen to be believed. There is not a dull moment on the campus where activities ranging from academics, technical fests, sports meets and cultural and creative arts events keep them preoccupied all the time. The fun events have their own place but academics are the crux of BITians. Quizzes, projects, assignments, and presentations are all integral parts of life. With severe but healthy competition, sleep becomes a luxury one can ill afford. The seniors are the most important and an indispensible part of a junior’s life. They guide and help the first year students in every possible way, from taking ‘gyaan’ sessions on the courses, to helping them during summer training and placements, to setting an example of how to set one’s foot loose on the campus. Celebrations of any event are done with lots of fervor. Students and staff come together to celebrate Diwali and Holi. Committees representing different states and regions of India come together to give everyone a feel of their culture. Students Activities: The student’s activities are the medium to channel the budding creativity and enormous potential of the students. These activities are entirely initiated and conceptualized by the students under the guidance of some faculty members. In this sense, all the activities are for the students, by the students and of the students. Technika It is the annual techno-cultural festival of BIT, Patna.
