AS MY TERM AS CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF BOCA POINTE
Country Club draws to a close, I would like to reflect upon all of the positive changes that
have taken place here over the past year. Boca Pointe is very near and dear to my heart, and I
feel privileged to have been a part of a pivotal time in our Club’s “life” - a time when it is on
the verge of a renaissance that we can all look forward to with excitement and pride.
Our Club is one of the nicest gated country club communities in South Florida, and
thanks to its leadership it remains in excellent financial condition. This is a true testament to
our Club’s outstanding management, as year after year we continue to make sure that Boca
Pointe offers the most comprehensive and best country club programs in the country, at a
more than competitive price. I would certainly like to thank Paul Volin and the entire Boca
Pointe staff for the hard work they put in every day to ensure our club runs at peak efficiency.
I would also like to thank Teresa Barbara, the Board’s Administrative Assistant, for everything
she does. We definitely could not do our jobs without her.
Our members enjoy a menu of lifestyle choices, both in terms of membership privileges as well as daily activities
that could keep even the most energetic among us worn out! Color War #3, for example, was a huge success this year,
with everyone who participated in the various events having a wonderful time. And our younger members had a
fantastic time at our I-9 sports summer camp.
One of the highlights of the year was our highly successful Andy Roddick Celebrity Tennis Exhibition, which
was held on December 9th to benefit disadvantaged children. It certainly was exciting to see the Davis Cup up close
and get to watch a fabulous exhibition put on by Andy Roddick, James Blake, two-time Grand Slam winner Maria
Sharapova and Brenda Schultz.
We should all be proud of the upgrade that has taken place in our food and beverage operation over the past
year. With the promotion of Chef Terry to Executive Chef and the efforts of Richard Martino and his staff, our
members enjoy an exceptional food and dining experience at a value unmatched at any other club.
In an effort to keep the members abreast of all issues the Board has been working on concerning the future of
the Club, we held a series of nine information sharing sessions, during which we brought members up-to-date on
Mandatory Membership, plans for the Club’s renovation, Paul Volin’s planned retirement in 2009, Boca Pointe Real
Estate Direct and other items of importance to the Club. I would like to thank the more than 800 members who
attended these meetings and expressed interest in what has been happening at our Club. In addition, once a month
there will be informal discussion sessions with the members and the Board. All members are welcome to attend.
You have until March 10th to vote for your choice of candidates to fill the three vacant seats on the Board of
Governors. Please be certain to pay careful attention to the candidates’ views, as the future of your Club depends on
making the right choices.
Over the past year we have begun paving an exciting path for the future of Boca Pointe Country Club. Now it
will be up to you to decide what kind of club you want - and are willing to pay for.
The future of Boca Pointe is in your hands. You can either decide to make it one of the most attractive, healthy,
vibrant lifestyle communities in the South Florida market - or to allow it to become a club that “has seen better days.”
You must decide.
I thank you all for giving me the opportunity to participate over this past year in building the future of our
wonderful Club. I hope that our seasonal residents enjoyed the season and, as they leave, I wish them all a safe trip
and a happy, healthy summer. I also wish our year-round residents continued enjoyment of our facilities and
amenities.

THERE IS AN OLD STORY ABOUT A REPORTER KNOCKING ON MARK TWAIN’S
door after reports surfaced that Twain had died. The reporter was shocked to see Twain when he
answered the door.
Twin’s response to the reporter was classic. “Just tell them the reports of my demise were greatly
exaggerated”.
The rumor mill has been in full swing this season and the reports of my demise have also been
greatly exaggerated. I have not resigned. In October, 2009 I will reach the ripe old age of 65. It
occurred to me that it might then be a good time to hang it up and enjoy life, just as many of our members have
done. Over the last 63 years I have retired three different times and failed miserably at it. Perhaps this time I will
get it right. Time will tell.
The “season” is in full swing and from an operations and financial standpoint things are going extremely well. Our
restaurants are busy, our costs are under control and our special events (New Years Eve, Sweetheart Dinner Dance
etc.) are receiving rave reviews. This year we have a record 28 seasonal employees from South Africa and Romania.
They are a wonderful addition to our family of employees and the comments from the membership are
overwhelmingly positive.
As I write this we are in negotiations with the Board of the Community Association on a proposed Hybrid form of
Mandatory Membership program that would be unique to Boca Pointe. I am hopeful that these talks will result in a
vote by all Country Club members and all homeowners within Boca Pointe before the season is over. If it does not
work out we will need to find a way to upgrade our facilities. We will also need to create new innovative membership
programs that will be relevant to the next generation of Boca Pointe residents. Either way I believe that both the Club
and the community as a whole need “closure” on the issue of Mandatory Membership so we can all get on with the
business of developing our business model and ensuring a bright future for both the Club and the community.
Sincerely,

GOING GREEN
Here we are once again getting ready to say goodbye
to our seasonal clients. All the staff at the spa would
like to say a big thank you to everyone, both seasonal
and year round members and guests, who supported
us by using our services this past year.
It’s hard to ignore the eco craze that’s sweeping the
nation from the home to cuisine to massage and beauty
products. We know that adopting an eco life is not an
overnight task, but it is one we cannot and must not
ignore any more. It is a learning process that begins
with simple practices. On those lines, we are gradually
introducing products that reflect the changes we must
try to make.
Organic Sugar Scrubs with French Lavender
have been very popular. Certified organic ingredients
gently awaken both skin and the Crown Chakra to
inner radiance. The sugar crystals loosen and lift
dead skin cells while detoxifying the skin by drawing
moisture from the environment to keep skin naturally
hydrated. French Lavender deeply soothes and restores
dry skin and you are left feeling renewed and glowing.
It is especially good for dry, tight, or itchy skin. Consider
it a deep body cleansing. Many of our clients combine
this ritual with a full body massage for deeper relaxation.
$110 for 90 minutes (save with a series).
Organic Facial Products, an alternative to AHAs
are used in facial exfoliation. The all natural repair
therapy contains the richest source of beta carotene,
Vitamin A and ascorbic acid as topicals and derivatives
that decrease the oxidative and free radical stress that
other peels have. Photo Facials, another successful
facial treatment, uses LED Light therapy by bio
stimulating and regenerating skin cells to produce
more collagen and increase faster cell turnover rate.
Dramatic differences can be seen in women who
receive proper skin care. $90 - $200 for 90 minutes.
Basic 1 hour facials are $60.
Massages, 7 different modalities are available
individually priced from $65 or as further savings in a
series of 6 which can be used by anyone in the family.
Great when guests arrive. 90 minute massages are also
available.
Natural nails are our specialty with the need to
book appointments several days in advance. Silk
wraps eliminate the odor and inhalation of acrylics.
And pedicures are sheer pampering and relaxation in
our massaging chair in a private room.
The Spa is open Tuesday - Saturday.
Consultations are always free. Please call 864.8552.

APRIL
EGGS ARE BACK! Eggs have been a breakfast staple
for hundreds of years, until scientists established a link
between high cholesterol and heart disease in the 1950s
and ’60s. Eggs are high in cholesterol, so it was reasonable
to assume they could increase the risk of heart disease. Eggs
have been in a nutritional limbo ever since. Recent studies
found that eggs are excellent sources of protein- particularly
in older adults. Harvard researches, in a study of 117,000
nurses, found that eating an egg daily posed the same risk
of heart disease as eating one once a week. Another study
found that eating three eggs a day promoted strength and
muscle mass in older adults participating in a weight-training
program without increasing cholesterol. Eggs are low in
calories and fat and are excellent sources of high-quality
protein, iron, B vitamins and minerals. Eating eggs for
breakfast prevents hunger longer, because they contain
protein and like Iron Mike says, “Protein First, Protein Last.”
