How Well Do You Wrap?
WHAT’S THAT?
POP QUIZ: It’s pau hana and you’ve dropped your tool belt.
You’re headed for the truck, where you can already hear your cell
phone ringing inside the cab. Just as you’re about to open the door
you remember that bundle of Ikaika I-joists you saw lying on the
ground. Do you turn back?
ANSWER: You know as well as we do that the investment you
make in any engineered wood product is protected only as much as
you protect these materials from warping and moisture. Here’s how:
1) Keep bundles wrapped and strapped until time of installation. 2)
Store bundles on a smooth, level, well-drained, supportive surface.
3) Stack bundles in an upright position. 4) Place 2x or LVL spacers
between stacked bundles and the ground at a maximum of 10’
apart. 5) Keep joists vertical during handling and avoid excessive
bowing. 6) If damage occurs, take the hit. Never use or field-repair
a damaged I-joist.

literally putting up HPM wall panels faster
than our drivers could unload them.
They raised all the exterior and interior
wall panels of this Auli’i, 864 sq ft HPM
packaged home in under 45 minutes.
“Especially in this area we wanted to be
able to get dried-in quickly,” said Dana.
“We were wrapped and secured by the
end of the day, and completely dried-in
by the end of the next, so none of our
framing materials walked-away and
everything stayed dry.”
