Q: WHAT IS THE UNIVERSITÉ DU QUÉBEC À TROIS-RIVIÈRES?
A:
Over the past 40 years, The Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) has established its reputation as a leader
in many fields of research and training. Particularly well placed among Quebec universities, it is a medium-sized
institution with a vibrant learning environment, geared to student success and has cultivated a number of significant
partnerships. UQTR has 21 departments and 347 professors who teach and conduct research in a wide range of fields,
often in collaboration with other universities both nationally and internationally, as well as with a variety of important
partners. The University boasts three centres, two institutes (Institut de recherche sur l’hydrogène [Hydrogen Research
Institute] and Institut de recherche sur les PME [SME Research Institute]), 19 chairs, 8 research groups and
13 research laboratories. Furthermore, over 550 lecturers teach almost half the number of courses offered at UQTR.
Q: WHAT IS THE POPULATION SERVED BY UQTR?
A:
The territory served by the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières can be divided into four principal regions:
Mauricie, Centre-du-Québec, Montérégie and Lanaudière. UQTR also has seven satellite campuses: Drummondville,
Joliette, Longueuil, Quebec, Saint-Hyacinthe, Sorel-Tracy and Victoriaville. In total, UQTR serves a population
of over one million people. With its training centres and students from outside its principal region, UQTR attracts
close to 11,500 students enrolled in approximately 150 graduate and undergraduate programs.
Q: WHY HAS UQTR DECIDED TO EMBARK ON A MAJOR
FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN WITH THE UQTR FOUNDATION?
A:
In 2004, UQTR conducted a strategic planning exercise to outline its future development plan. Funding was
a major concern. To supplement government grants and subsidies, universities in Quebec, Canada and elsewhere
in North America are turning to the private sector for funding to support their development. The UQTR Foundation
has supported university life in the region since 1986, and during this period has helped to raise more than $28M.
Given the extent of its financial needs, UQTR and its Foundation have strengthened their relationships with the private
sector and organized a 3rd Major Fundraising Campaign with a financial goal of $20M – an ambitious project
with an objective never before attained by UQTR in a Major Fundraising Campaign.
Q: ISN’T THE GOVERNMENT OF QUEBEC RESPONSIBLE
FOR FUNDING QUEBEC UNIVERSITIES?
A:
The Government of Quebec, through the ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport [Ministry of Education,
Recreation and Sports], funds teaching and training in all Quebec universities. For researchers and professors,
however, a large portion of their research projects and scientific equipment is financed by Quebec or Canadian
government research agencies, government ministries as well as the private sector. This also applies to financial
support to students, partly provided by different government bursary programs. In all cases, whether it be for
acquiring research equipment, teaching or financing projects such as research chairs or bursary programs,
universities must now, more than ever before, depend on their foundations for support, as present government
funding does not cover their priority needs. UQTR is no exception, and counts on this complementary funding
to improve the financial situation of students and ensure continued development of the University. The following
universities have organized major fundraising campaigns that have yielded impressive results:

Q: WHAT IS THE FINANCIAL OBJECTIVE OF THE MAJOR FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN?
A:
The financial objective of the Major Fundraising Campaign is to raise $20M to support 18 priority projects.
Q: IF IN FACT THE MAJOR FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN SURPASSES ITS FINANCIAL
OBJECTIVE, HOW WILL UQTR ALLOCATE THE SURPLUS FUNDS?
A:
In addition to the 18 priority projects totalling $20M, UQTR and the Foundation have identified 10 other projects,
totalling $10M, which are also considered current needs of the University. UQTR and the Foundation will, however,
always respect donors’ wishes regarding the designation of their donations.
Q: WHO CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THE MAJOR FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN?
A:
In addition to contributions from board members of UQTR and the Foundation, UQTR staff, students and retirees,
we will solicit the support of friends, local, regional and national businesses, business leaders, private foundations,
religious institutions, financial institutions, graduates and alumni, parents of students and all others who wish
to support the development of students in our region and the activities of UQTR.
Q: ARE DONATIONS TAX DEDUCTIBLE?
A:
Yes, an official tax receipt will be issued for provincial and federal income tax purposes.

Q: CAN DONORS SPREAD THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS OVER SEVERAL YEARS?
A:
Yes, donors who wish to do so may pledge their contribution over a period of five years, which ensures a more
substantial contribution for UQTR. Instalments may be made by a preauthorized credit card payment, cheque,
money order, and for UQTR staff, by automatic payroll deduction.
Q: WILL THERE BE SPECIAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF DONATIONS
TO THE MAJOR FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN?
A:
The Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières has implemented a donor recognition program in order to acknowledge
the generosity of individual and corporate donors according to their level of commitment.
