VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
We’re always looking for new volunteers to join our team so that
we may continue to deliver nutritious meals to our clients.
Volunteers develop interpersonal skills, gain valuable work
experience, give back to your community, and meet new people.
We are in an urgent need for volunteers in our outlying areas
of Valley, Rayside, Onaping, and Levack. Arrangements may
be made with a volunteer to have a Transportation Clerk bring
the meals to a depot. Volunteers in these areas would ensure
we can continue serving clients hot meals.
Volunteer hours typically run from 10am – 1pm Monday to Friday.
We ask that volunteers make themselves available at least one (1)
day each month.
Volunteer Positions:
• Volunteer Delivery Driver
• Volunteer Delivery Driver Helper
• Kitchen Volunteer
• Office Volunteer
• Board of Directors

is about getting local politicians, media personalities, and local celebrities involved with delivering meals to the community. This year we had
several individuals who were eager to help in meal delivery to our clients. As our guests joined us for meal delivery, it definitely added a smile
to the faces of our clients and volunteers.
Here is a list of those who joined us:
March 17: Counsellor Joscelyne Landry-Altmann
March 18: Counsellor Terry Kett
March 19: Scott Edwards, Radio Personality for KICX 91.7
March 20: Alison Allen, Radio Personality for KICX 91.7
March 27: Mayor Marianne Matichuk
A CLIENT’S STORY
Two months ago my world was turned upside down. After a few bouts of dizziness and just feeling ill, I was diagnosed with lung cancer and
they also found a tumour in my cerebellum. I underwent surgery for the tumour and came home after a two week stay in the hospital.
Receiving meals from Meals On Wheels (Sudbury) has given my spouse (caregiver) free time to care for me and not worry about my nutritional
needs. It is reassuring to both of us that I am eating a nutritious meal daily. It is helping me get my strength back to undergo further surgeries
and treatments. There is more than enough food as some days I am not able to finish the whole meal. GL
If you have a story you would like to submit to Meals On Wheels (Sudbury) about how our service has had a positive impact on you or a
loved one, please contact our office today.

TIPS FOR
WARMER
WEATHER
As we are getting into the hot summer months, Meals On Wheels
(Sudbury) wanted to share some tips for staying cool in warmer weather.
• Drink plenty of liquids – 8 glasses or more per day of water and/or
natural juices. Avoid caffeinated beverages.
• Wear loose-fitting clothes in light colours to reflect the sun and heat.
Fabrics such as cotton are great for keeping one cool.
• When outside, use sunscreen of 30 SPF or greater and hats to protect
your skin
• In extreme heat and humidity, stay indoors and stay cool. If you do
not have an air conditioner, try and stay cool with fans and cool
showers/baths.
• Avoid eating heavy meals and using your oven.
• Keep electric lights off or turned on low.
• Rest as much as possible.
Know the signs of heat stroke and take immediate action if you feel
them coming on. Signs include flushed face, rapid pulse, headache,
nausea, high body temperature, dizziness, and confusion.
MEALS ON WHEELS (SUDBURY)
Hi there! My name is Ashley Paajanen and I am excited to be taking
on this new role at Meals On Wheels (Sudbury). As Manager of
Operations, I am responsible for the oversight of Volunteer, Client,
Financial, and Social Enterprise operations, as well as being the
health and safety representative for the Agency.
I feel I will be able to bring a lot of knowledge and excitement to
this position as I have received my Bachelor of Commerce (with
Honors) from the University of Ottawa. While completing my
schooling, I had the opportunity to study non-profit organizations
and I am eager excited to apply the experience that I have
acquired.
In addition, I believe in promoting wellness and being active within
the community. Outside of work, I volunteer with Big Brothers Big
Sisters Sudbury and I enjoy a variety of sports including volleyball
(indoor & beach), swimming, dodgeball and ultimate Frisbee.
I look forward to the work ahead and becoming more involved
with Meals On Wheels (Sudbury).
