About the Director
Queenie Mae B. Chua was born on June 3, 1996 at
Zamboanga City, Philippines. She is the eldest daughter of
Reynaldo E. Chua and Mardy F. Balijado. She has a younger
sibling, Shania Chua. When she was still a child, she loves
to watch cartoons especially Tom and Jerry. Her family
calls her “KIM”. Her mother taught her how to read while her
father taught her how to count.
She finished her Kindergarten, Elementary, and High
School education at Zamboanga Chong Hua High School.
Kim graduated with Loyalty Awards. She excels in Science
and in History subjects.
As a kid, she have always wanted to become a Power
Ranger. She is fond of watching animes like Flame of Recca,
etc.She never liked drawing until she watched the Naruto
anime. There, she starts to draw and the very first character
that she mastered to draw was Naruto Uzumaki.
She is sporty and knows how to play six sports which includes, Basketball, Volleyball,
Soccer, Badminton, Table Tennis, Karate, Wushu and a little bit of Tennis. She is a fan of Miami
Heat, Golden State Warriors and Chicago Bulls on the NBA. She is also a fan of DLSU Lady
Spikers and Ateneo Lady Eagles at the UAAP Women’s Volleyball games.
During her free time, Kim spends her time reading novels and daydreaming. She is also
an amateur writer on Wattpad with 3 published stories. Also, she is an avid gamer. She loves to
play video games like NBA2k, Grand Theft Auto Series, and The Sims.
Kim is an avid fan of Star Wars and Quentin Tarantino’s films.
Kim is very shy but when you get to know her, she’s bubbly and friendly.
She is a minimalist and believes everyone is unique.

About the Story
How I came up with the story is actually a big accident.
Yeah, like the Sharon in the film.
How did it happened?
It was a Sunday. July 19, 2015.
I was depressed that time because my very first story got rejected. I was listening to
my Dad’s Walkman (Not the walkman from the 80’s) and a song of the Beach Boys played.
I love the Beach Boys and the title of the song was playing is Good Vibrations. It sounds
psychedelic but I like it!
I got interested on the tune and the lyrics. They kept on saying “Good Vibrations” all
the time. So I thought, Is the singer high? I consulted one of my BFF’s, GOOGLE, about the
song and I found out that the song writer wrote that song while under the influence of LSD
(Lysergic acid diethylamide). Ting! An idea popped inside of my crazy brain. I developed
the story and I made the main character a kid so it will be dark and unique! I wanted to be
different so I should really thank the Beach Boys for their song. Really.
P.S, I do not take drugs. Drugs are bad. You have been warned.

I. One Sentence Story
“The story is about a girl who
accidentally drinks the wrong
pill and entered Candyland.”

II. Three - Act Story
I
Sharon wondered about her older sister’s creativity. She’s staring at a painting which
her sister did and she envied her. She goes to the desk and tries to draw like her sister but
she gives up and watches a movie instead. Her sister asked her to drink her vitamins. She
took the bottle and examined it. She took a pill and starts to feel groggy.
II
Sharon wakes up from a strange smell but she didn’t mind it at first but the smell
bothered her. She sits down and sees the walls are wobbling. She followed the scent and it
lead her to the closet. She opened it and she was so amazed at what she saw. She entered
Sugar land and starts to explore it. She sees four dancing kisses and one fell on the water.
III
Sharon tries to help the drowning kisses when she hears someone calling her name.
She looks up and saw a giant gingerbread man. The gingerbread man was so shocked when
it saw her. Back in the room, her older sister was in shocked when she saw her sister being
weird. naia grinned widely and starts to approach her, thinking she’s gingerbread man.

III. Script
INT. BEDROOM - EVENING
CLOSE UP on SHARON, a 7 year old, pale girl, staring at the
painting. CAMERA shifts to the psychedelic painting that ACHI
made.
SHARON (V.O.)
(In chavacano)
ACHI’S drawing is amazing! How did
she do it?
WIDE SHOT on SHARON walks going to the study table. MEDIUM SHOT
on SHARON sits down and grabs the stylus pen. SHARON starts to
draw.
INT. BEDROOM - MOMENTS LATER
SHARON gets tired on drawing and she starts to watch videos on
the laptop. CLOSE UP on SHARON staring at the laptop.
ACHI (V.O.)
(In chavacano)
NENG, drink your medicine!
SHARON rolls her eyes and sighs. She looks at the medicine bottle. SHARON chews the medicine and she feels disgusted.
INT. BEDROOM - MOMENTS LATER
SHARON is on her bed, sleeping. She smells something sweet and
wakes up. SHARON sits down and looks at her hands. She looks
around the room and everything is wiggly. She approaches the
closet and opens it. SHARON smiles widely.
FADE TO BLACK.

EXT. CANDYLAND
SHARON is now on CANDYLAND. SHARON looks around and sees GIANT
GLOWING KISSES, GIANT ICE CREAM MOUNTAINS, and GLOWING LOLLIPOPS.
SHARON
WEEEEE! HIHIHIHI!!!
SHARON is amazed and starts to hallucinate more. She walks and
She tries to climb the LOLLIPOP. She fails to do so and she sees
FOUR DANCING KISSES, a GREEN ONE, A YELLOW ONE, A BLUE ONE AND A
RED ONE. The BLUE ONE fell on the CHOCOLATE RIVER and SHARON goes
after it and extends her hand to the BLUE KISSES.
EXT. CANDYLAND - CONTINUOUS
CLOSE UP on the foot of GINGERBREAD MAN.
GINGERBREAD MAN (V.O.)
(In chavacano)
Hey SHARON what are you doing?
CLOSE UP on GINGERBREAD MAN’S head who is shocked when it sees
SHARON. SHARON looks up at GINGERBREAD MAN and stared at it.
INT. BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS
MEDIUM SHOT on ACHI who is shocked. SHARON stands up and smirks.
CUT TO BLACK
SHARON (V.O.)
GINGERBREAD MAN!
ACHI (V.O.)

We hear a THUD.

I. Main Character
Sharon
This is the main character, Sharon. Why Sharon? The name Sharon means a
lot to me. My mother is a big fan of Sharon Cuneta. My very first concert was Sharon
Cuneta back in 2005. Me, myself is also a fan of hers especially her songs and her
movies.
Sharon is based her on my little sister because I want to give a tribute for her.
Sharon is a sick obese girl and she has diabetes. She is a curious 7 year old
girl who is envious to her sister. She is artistic, but not artistic as her olders sister.
She actually has no lower teeth because she lost them when her teeth decayed.
I used MIA Skin on her so she will have a realistic skin when rendered.

As I’ve mentioned, Sharon is
based on my younger sister, Shania.
My sister sports the “BUN” hairstyle
like Sharon when we were still little
kids. She also likes to wear T-Shirts
and Baggy Shorts. (I don’t know
why but she really likes it)
Sharon’s attitude is similar to
my sister. Sharon is boyish and big
(No offense). Sharon’s favorite color
is green and white. She loves boyish
things and acts like a boy. She is sick
and that is the reason why she takes
medications at an early age.

II. Supporting Characters
A. Kisses
The Four Dancing Kisses
These are the four dancing kisses found in Candyland. They are colored Blue,
Green, Yellow and Red. Typically, Kisses have only two colors which is Brown and White
(Chocolate and Cookies n’ Cream). But back in the mid 2000‘s, Hershey’s produced a
chocolate candy called the Kissables. They are like M&M’s but the shape is like the
Kisses.
I came up with the idea of these kisses on the very last minute of the production.
I felt like there should be more characters and I decided to add these guys to my film to
add more life to it.
I used Blinn as its material and played with the incandescense and the ambient.
I activated the glow effect to give them more neon effect when I render the final image.

B. Achi
Achi is the older sister of Sharon. In Chinese (Hokkien), Achi means
“Big Sister”. In Filipino, Ate. Yes, My sister calls me Achi and I based her from yours
truly. She is Nineteen years old and she has brown hair which she dyed it.
I did not gave Achi a name because it’s not that important. Sharon calls her
“Achi” on the film so I thought her name is not going to be that important. She only
appears for a few seconds on the film because the story revolves around her little
sister anyways.
Achi loves to paint and she is artistic. Her weirdness leads her to her creativity
and she is taking LSD to boost her creativity.
(She is the owner of the drugs that her sister accidentally took.)

C. Gingerbread Man

Gingy from Shrek
Gingerbread Man is a creature that Sharon encountered at Candyland.
Gingerbread Man is actually Achi but since Sharon is high, she sees a giant Gingerbread
Man.
Gingerbread is actually based on Gingy from Shrek.
Gingerbread Man’s Buttons, eyes, lips, and eyebrows are glowing. I used Lambert
and turned on the incandescence.

Set Design
I.Room
This is the room of Sharon and Achi. They share the same bedroom because they
are sisters. It’s just a small but very simple bedroom.
There’s a double deck bed where Sharon sleeps at the bottom because she is still
a little kid. There is a dresser, a cabinet, a desk and a paint stand because Achi loves to
paint.
The room is based on our actual bedroom at our home. I just added the double
bed since they are sisters who share the same room. All I can say is the room is very
simple. I like it simple because I’m not a detailed type of person.

II. CandyLand
This is CANDYLAND. Where you can see bright, neon lollipops and giant glowing kisses.
There are Dancing Kisses that will entertain you during your visit and take note, This land
is PURELY EDIBLE!
Sadly, this is just a product of Sharon’s mind. Awww.
In the Candyland, there are Kisses all around (Big and Small), ice creams with glowing
cherries. There is also a kitkat bridge and a chocolate river. (Which is not very clear in
the film.)
The CandyLand has pink clouds and the lollipops, kisses doesn’t glow in my original idea
but there are some suggestions that it is better to have it neon to emphasize the colors.
I used Physical Sun and turned it’s direction upwards to mimic a night scene. For the
lollipops and the Kisses, I tweak the incandescene and the glow to give it a neon effect.
For the water, I used Ocean to create realistic waters.

Set References:
This is one of the things which
inspired the CandyLand. At first, I really
wanted to copy the set of this music video
and I realized that I cannot do it in a short
period of time.
One of my ideas was to create mountains
which is ICE CREAM! I did some ice creams
with cherry on top. They served as one of the
mountains in the land. I really emphasized the
kisses because it is my sister’s most favorite
chocolate. I created large and mini kisses and
spread them across the set.
All of the candies that we see on the
set are the favorite chocolates and candies of
my sister. And yes, I did not follow my initial
plan for the set because I’m so impulsive.
I’m glad that with my final set design
for the CandyLand.
