technical education quality improvement programme (teqip -ii)
TECHNICAL EDUCATION QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME
(TEQIP -II)
Building upon the satisfactory completion of the first phase of world Bank Project TEQIP Phase
I, NMAM Institution of Technology, Nitte has been selected for its second phase (TEQIP-II).
Our Institution is one among 200 engineering institutions selected to improve quality of
Technical Education through institutional and systemic reforms throughout the Nation. The
second phase boosts efforts to prepare more post-graduate students to reduce the shortage of
qualified faculty, and to produce more R&D in collaboration with industry.
The main Objectives of TEQIP Phase II are:
1. Strengthening Institutions to produce high quality Engineers for better employability.
2. Scaling-up Postgraduate Education and demand-driven Research & Development
and Innovation.
3. Establishing Centers of Excellence for focused applicable research.
4. Training of Faculty for effective Teaching
5. Enhancing Institutional and System Management effectiveness

Institutions
This Component aims to strengthen around 200 competitively selected Engineering Education
Institutions to improve learning outcomes and employability and scale-up Postgraduate
education, research & development and innovation and establishing Centres of Excellence. The
faculty of these institutions will also be offered pedagogical training for effective teaching
through the following sub-components:
Sub-Component 1.1
: Strengthening institutions to improve learning outcomes and
employability of graduates
Sub-Component 1.2
: Scaling-up Postgraduate Education and Demand-Driven
Research & Development and Innovation
Sub-Component 1.3
: Faculty Development for Effective Teaching (Pedagogical
Training)
Component-2 : Improving System Management
This Component aims to build capacity of Technical Education Policy Planners, Administrators
and Implementers at the Central, State, and Institutional levels to effectively implement the
institutional reforms and to introduce and sustain innovative systemic quality improvement
practices.
It also aims to provide timely, sufficient, precise, and reliable information to improve and assess
the performance of the selected institutions by effective Project Management through the
following sub-components:

Institution was successfully completed TEQIP Phase I where the main focus was
Strengthening the Institution to improve learning outcomes and employability of
graduates. During TEQIP Phase - I Institution reached its objectives with main focus on
improvement of infrastructural facilities, modernization of all undergraduate laboratories
with state of art equipment and training the faculty by organizing International / National
Conferences and Workshops. Under this project Institution has organized more than 150
International/National/Conferences/Workshops in the area of subject domain. Faculty
members were encouraged to upgrade their qualification and efforts were made to improve
learning outcomes and employability of graduates.
Considering the performance in TEQIP Phase I, NMAMIT, Nitte has been selected for TEQIP
Phase II under sub component 1.2. Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed
with Govt. of Karnataka on August, 2010 for effective implementation of TEQIP Phase II at our
Institution. From the day of signing MOU, Institution is working towards attainment of the
objectives of the project. Board of Governance (BOG) has been established under the
Chairmanship of Sri. N.V.Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University and President of Nitte
Education Trust. BOG had met several times to review the progress made in the process of
implementation of the project.
Focusing on the objectives of the project, BOG has taken following decision while implementing
the TEQIOP Phase II:
1. To provide Teaching and Research Assistantships to enhance enrolment in existing
and new Master’s and Doctoral programmes in Engineering disciplines
2. Focused plan to enhance R & D activities and institutional consultancy activities
3. Based on Training Need Analysis (TNA) organizing Faculty and staff development
programmes in collaboration with Foreign Universities for improved competence
4. Enhancing Institutional Management Capacity by conducting Management Capacity
Building programmes for higher officials
5. Implementation of Institutional academic reforms
6. To provide sufficient input by enhancing Academic support for weak students
7. Organizing National and International Conferences/workshops in subject domain.
