February 5 - 14 www.riverviewwintercarnival.ca #rivwintercarnival GREETINGS FROM THE MAYOR It is my pleasure to welcome residents and visitors to the 2016 Riverview Winter Carnival, being held February 5-14. Now in its 41st year, the festival is a proud part of Riverview’s heritage that focuses on bringing everyone together in the cold of winter for family fun, recreation, delicious food and entertainment. Festivities continue for 10 straight days and expand into our community’s business areas. Make sure to visit the ice sculptures by L’Art Ici SVP dotting the Findlay Park business area. There’s a chance to win some great prizes too! Riverview is definitely the place to be for winter fun. Your Town Council and I are all looking forward to seeing everyone again at the opening ceremonies on Friday, February 5. Bundle up the family and enjoy a hot chocolate, go for a skate and listen to live music. Thank you to the organizing committee, event partners, sponsors and all of you for promoting a vibrant, prosperous and active community. Happy Winter Carnival! Mayor Ann Seamans WELCOME FROM THE COMMITTEE The Riverview Winter Carnival is our community’s longest running festival, and is one that many residents and visitors look forward to every year. With a focus on outdoor physical activity, it’s a time to come out of hibernation and breathe in the fresh crisp air! Whether you go for an exhilarating toboggan ride down the sliding hill, enjoy a sleigh ride with your loved ones, create a snow sculpture, or strap on a pair of snow shoes or cross country skis, you’ll be creating lasting memories while joining in with your friends and neighbours to celebrate this beautiful time of year. There is a lot happening inside too! So you can warm up with a pancake supper, or a five course meal, laugh your cares away at a comedy show, or enjoy the music at one of our musical showcases. There is lots to see and do, and it is all brought to you by the many community groups and volunteers that work hard to plan and execute these events every year. Long-haired, bearded and “rough around the edges,” audiences expect Nutt’s material to match. But he surprises with razored-down punch lines and well conjured-up premises that place him as one of the top comics working today. Tim’s way of cutting through the nonsense of everyday life has made him a favourite across the country. Adrienne Fish has been making her mark on Canada’s comedy scene. Based out of Toronto, she was nominated by NOW Magazine as Toronto’s Best Female Stand-up 2015 and for the Tim Sims Encouragement Award in recognition of up and coming talent. Always nominated, never the bride. She combines observational comedy from her every day life as a gay, stay-at-home Mom (has no children, but definitely is a homo) with anecdotal comedy about her life as a retired gymnast (quit when she was 10). Off stage, she hosts her own weekly segment on local TV’s “Night Time with Micheal Charbon, can be heard on Sirius XM “Canada Laughs”, and was featured in the documentary “She’s So Funny.” Simon B. Cotter uses a healthy dose of wit, candor and charm to entertain audiences across the globe. Over the years, Simon has performed at the Just For Laughs Festival, appearing on CBC-TV Galas five times. Simon has also appeared on CBC’s Comics!, as well as CTV/The Comedy Network’s Comedy Now!. Internationally, Simon has enjoyed success on A&E’s Evening at the Improv, The Comedy Store TV Show (UK), LIVE at Jongleurs (UK) and the BBC’s The Stand Up Show. 7 SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 7 ON A FROSTY WINTER’S DAY 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Come to the Riverview Superstore and have a ball with your little ones (ages 2 -5), as you work together making fun snowmen the warm and snuggly way.
