God of mercy, you sent Jesus Christ to seek and save the lost. We confess that
we have strayed from you and turned aside from your way. We are misled by pride, for we see ourselves pure when we are stained, and great when we are small. We have failed in love, neglected justice, and ignored your truth. Have mercy, O God, and forgive our sin. Return us to paths of righteousness through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Lord have mercy. Worship Notes for Sunday, March 22
This morning, our Sanctuary Choir will offer to God’s glory the cantata, “Footprints in the Sand.” The cantata will be offered in loving memory of long-time choir members, Walter and Ellen Weismann;; the cantata, their gift to our congregation. “Footprints” compellingly pro-­
claims the story of Jesus Christ’s ministry in word and song from his Baptism in the Jordan River, to his ministry and the events of Holy Week up to his Last Supper. Following the can-­
tata, at coffee hour, the Outreach Committee will present an encore showing of “Why Did Jesus Die?” from last fall’s Alpha series. On Palm Sunday, March 29, our congregation will joyously watch our children process in, waving palms and singing Hosanna, “ … whom the lips of children sing.” But then, with the dismissal of the children for Sunday School and the reading of the scripture lessons, the congregation may notice the tenor of the service changing. That is because during the latter part of the service, we will symbolically observe the remainder of the week. As the saying goes, “You can’t really understand the miracle of Easter if you’ve just arrived from the ho-­
sannas of Palm Sunday!” (And children—don’t miss the Easter Egg hunt just before the Deacons’ Pancake Breakfast following the service.)
Come back to worship with us midweek on Maundy Thursday &/or Good Friday. You will receive a warm welcome and a chance to reflect on all the events of Holy Week. Please do come—Maundy Thursday (4/2) at 8:00 p.m., Good Friday (4/3) at noon.
Then, of course, we will celebrate a joyous Easter at our Lord’s empty tomb on April 5. A family service with children’s activities and a special Children’s Moments is planned for 9:00 a.m. with an 11:00 a.m. service (with communion) to follow. (No Sunday School that morn-­
ing.)

About the CANTATA: “Footprints in the Sand”, words by Joseph Martin and music by David Angerman. A very moving Lenten choral work tracing the steps of the Savior from Galilee to Emmaus, “Footprints in the Sand” is based on the poem written by Mary Stevenson in 1936. Come walk together and travel the dusty roads of Christ's journey that led him to Calvary, death, and resurrection in this contemporary musical reflection of the Lord's sacrifice.

Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.
This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from
anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.
So I said to the Lord,
‘You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life
there have only been one set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?’
The Lord replied,
‘The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in the sand,
is when I carried you.’

Relay for Life: Old First Church is fielding a team to participate in Huntington High School’s Relay for Life event on June 6, 2016. This event begins at 6:00pm. and ends at 6:000 am the next day. Relay for Life is a fundraiser for The American Cancer Society that began over 30 years ago and has raised over $5 billion to fight cancer. Relay for life comprises of:
 Organized, overnight community fundraising walk
 Teams of people camp out around a track
 Members of each team take turns walking around the track
 Food, games and activities provide entertainment and build camaraderie
 Family-friendly environment for the entire community

Easter Egg Hunt: There will be an Easter Egg Hunt again this year on Palm Sunday, March 29th right after worship for kids up to grade 4. Bring your baskets and meet us in room 102 immediately following the service. Deacons Pancake Breakfast: Palm Sunday March 29th, 2015. This event raises money to support the Thanksgiving baskets. Tickets will be on sale in Parish Hall after worship starting TODAY;; $8 adult, $6 youth ($25 max per family). Join us for good food and fellowship!
