Woodland Learning Area
Our Woodland Learning Area has been put to
very good use already this term. Children in
Reception and Year 1 have had great learning
and playing sessions there. The addition, during
the summer holidays, of two new tyre swings
and a climbing rope have further enhanced the
children’s enjoyment of the area.

biscuits and a drink.
Year 1 were reminded of the fire circle rules, hazards and boundaries and tried out
the new tyre swings. They also really enjoyed looking under logs at all the different
minibeasts living there.
Woodland learning is an innovative approach which uses the outdoors as an
inspirational educational environment. Groups explore nature in a hands-on
approach and learning is child-led as opposed to outcome-led. Woodland learning
helps to build confidence, independence and
self-esteem as well as giving the children new
life skills.

Boys’ Gum Shields
The senior squad played very well in the Charterhouse 6-a-side Tournament considering
how early in the season this competition is. The boys won their group and their last 16
knock-out stage match without conceding a goal. In the quarter finals, however, we
were simply outclassed by Feltonfleet and lost to them 0 -1. All eight squad members
gave 100% all afternoon and the spirit and commitment of the team was great to see.
Please note that, like us, Farleigh School
has a no dogs policy and are therefore
unable to have our four-legged friends in
their grounds.
You are reminded that the gum shield
fitting for boys in Years 3 and above will
take place on Friday 10th October.
Order forms, with cheque attached,
should be handed in to Reception as soon
as possible.

Cookery Helper Needed
Eileen Wall is looking for a parent who
would be able to help her in the cookery
room on Wednesday afternoons between
3.00pm and 4.00pm. This would not be
suitable for parents who like to watch
their children play in sports matches on
Wednesday afternoons.
If you are able to help please email Eileen
on [email protected] or leave a
message for her in Reception. Please note
that all volunteers need either to have a
Yateley Manor CRB which is less than three
years old, or to apply for a DBS (disclosure

Pete’s International Summer
Pete Daines returned from the U16 European
Basketball Championships held in Macedonia this
summer with a Bronze medal. The England U16
team he manages became only the second team, in
any age group, in English basketball history to win a
medal at a European Championships.
Preparations for the championships were intense.
The squad trained together every weekend
throughout June and July including two weekends
utilising the Yateley Manor facilities. The team hosted
Holland
and Sweden and travelled to Hungary,
Croatia and Slovakia for warm-up matches.
During the summer the team beat some
powerful basketball nations including Croatia,
Hungary, Slovakia, Estonia, Romania, Slovenia
and the Czech Republic on their way to the
semi-final.
Pete has also now been appointed as
Head of the English Delegation to the FIBA
international appeals committee. He feels he
learnt a great deal during the summer not
just about international basketball but also
tournament strategy, coaching techniques,
psychology and administration which he will
be able to incorporate into his teaching.

This was a fantastic start to the season with the boys

Yateley Manor led 2 – 0 although the play was fairly
even.
The second half saw Yateley Manor’s superior finishing
resulting in another three goals with Sam Hawes
claiming a hat-trick. Dolphin managed a consolation
goal. A very strong start to the season boys, well done.

Wellington College Hockey Tournaments
Under 11A
We had six games to play in our group and having won one, lost two and drew three
we finished fourth in the group. The girls worked really hard as a team and settled very
quickly into playing in different positions. Madison Aumonier, Amy Hodgkiss and
Anna Thomas were our goal scorers. Jenna Davis was our player of the tournament for
showing true determination and skill. Well done girls. JC
Team: Georgia Fraser Steadman, Jenna Davis, Simone Barkatullah, Amy Hodgkiss,
Amelia Courtney, Madison Aumonier, Ela Singh, Caitlin O’Toole, Anna Thomas
Under 10A
With two groups in the round robin stage of the tournament the girls played four
matches. Despite the pitches being larger than they are used to, they settled well into
the games. The girls narrowly lost their opening match 0 - 1 against Lambrook and
worked hard to keep the score to 0 - 2 against Highfield. They had a fantastic 2 - 1 win in
their third match against Downsend with Danielle Olugbile scoring both goals before
losing 0 - 4 to the eventual finalists Thomas's, Clapham. In the playoffs we were narrowly
beaten by Holme Grange. The girls pulled together well as a team and demonstrated
some excellent defence particularly from Aimée Howell, Tara Gill and Sarah Findell.
There was also plenty of good attacking play from Danielle Olugbile, April Ellis, Ella
Cox and Skye-Abigail Louw all well supported by Sadie Kitto in midfield. The girls
improved with each game and have many positives to take forward. Well done girls.
Sarah Findell was named player of the tournament. SC
Team: Sarah Findell, Tara Gill, Aimée Howell, Danielle Olugbile, Sadie Kitto, April
Ellis, Ella Cox, Skye-Abigail Louw
Girls’ Hockey Matches
1st VII v Edgeborough won 13 - 1
The senior girls had another great game this week. The fast pace of the astro pitch
suited them well and the team were 8 - 0 up by half time. In the second half, even with
the team playing out of position, Yateley Manor continued to dominate the match
scoring another five goals although Edgeborough did manage a consolation goal.
Francesca Courtney scored six goals and was named player of the match. Izzy Harper
also scored six and Anna McFall sneaked a final goal at the end of the match. A very
impressive game girls. AH
Team: Sophie Allison, Ella Haffey, Emily Treacher, Izzy Harper, Anna McFall, Phoebe
Moore, Francesca Courtney
2nd VII v Hall Grove lost 0 – 4
The girls did their best against a more confident side. During the first half we struggled
to get the ball into our attacking half but Alice Sullivan, in goal, was outstanding and we
finished the half 0 – 2 down. We pushed forward in the second half and after a few goal
mouth scrambles we were unlucky not to score. Hall Grove scored twice more. Well tried
girls, a good effort. Alice, deservedly was named player of the match. LM
Team: Alice Sullivan, Lucy Tickle, Anna Sloan, Millie Young, Yasmin Owadally,
Abooh Agyekum, Moore Kazhdan, Francesca Oades
U11B v Dolphin lost 1- 2
After a shaky first five minutes when we struggled to keep our shape and gave away an
early goal by being drawn too far up the pitch, we settled down and played some very
good hockey. The Yateley Manor girls worked hard in the middle of the pitch and created
chances to score in the D. On the stroke of half time Maddy Hall converted one of these
by smashing the ball into the goal following an excellent corner from Leah Jennings. We
continued to play this way throughout the second half but unfortunately were caught
by one break from the opposition who scored to finish the game 2 – 1. I t was a positive
start from the B team, well done girls! Maddy Hall was named girl of the match. RE
Team: Katherine Cairney, Lucy Hunt, Dibra Thapa Magar, Leah Jennings, Jodie
Saunders, Olivia James, Constance Bole, Maddy Hall, Issy Tinson
Football Matches
1st XI v Leighton Park won 5 – 2
This was a solid performance from the new look 1st XI. With five team members from Year 7 and six from Year 8 it will take a few
matches for them to really gel. The first half was scrappy but we improved as the game went on and we were winning comfortably. A
penalty decision against us allowed Leighton Park to score a consolation second goal. Our goals came from Jontie Sebborn (2), Kai
Corbett (2) and Wil Geeves. PD
Team: Sam Lalondrelle, Luke Jones, Lewis Morrison, Jontie Sebborn, Oliver Kirkpatrick, George Guy, Kai Corbett, Ben Scott,
Toby Davis, Ayush Bose, Wil Geeves
2nd IX v Leighton Park won 7 - 0
The 2nd IX made a superb start to the season. They soon brushed off the rust of the summer
holidays, scoring five goals in the second half where they dominated the game and began
to move the ball around with confidence and greater speed. Goals were scored by Harry
Foster (2), Will Calder (2), Ed Nye and William Partridge and there was one own goal.
Team: Ben Day, Matthew Williams, Ed Nye, Jarryd Ramkissoon, Harry Young, William
Banham, William Russell, Wil Calder, Matthew Giles, Harry Foster, William Partridge
3rd IX v Leighton Park lost 2 - 3
The 3rd team lost an absorbing contest against Leighton Park. The day’s conditions were
conducive to attacking football and the two sides didn’t disappoint. Yateley Manor took the
lead through a finish of consummate skill by Will Smith. The home side hit back fortuitously
at the end of the half despite the goalkeeping heroics of Jonathan Noble. Yateley Manor
took the lead again after the break as Reece Lane swivelled smartly to hammer the ball into
the top corner. Despite the boys’ best efforts they couldn’t hold on and conceded two late
goals. The effort and commitment showed by all the boys was superb. Well done. JH
Team: Jonathan Noble, Reece Lane, Morgan Kitto, Tom Adams, Ben Rowe, Will Smith,
Swapneel Mirani, Xavier Norton-Edwards, Ben Perryman, Jude Brooker, Oliver Howell
U11B v Dolphin won 3 – 2
This was a good performance by the boys. Matthew Heppner scored a late goal to give us a narrow 3 – 2 victory. Our scorers were
Matthew Heppner (2) and Oliver Banham. KC
Team: Owen Gauntlett, Wilf Brooks, James Ross, Sam Baird, Alex Emery, Matthew Heppner, Oliver Banham
U11C v Dolphin won 2 – 1
Another really good performance and great victory for the U11C team. Our goals came from Alex Yates and Joshua Highett. KC
Team: Finlay Cherry, Joshua Highett, Benjamin Wells, Hugo van Delsen, Christian Denny, Ewan Johns, Alex Yates
U11D v Dolphin won 5 - 0
An excellent start to the season with the team attacking from the first whistle. Kyle Ramkissoon scored two goals and James
Roberts got a hat-trick. James Hannaby in goal was rarely stretched, but rose to the occasion whenever the ball came his way. Alex
Macdonald was named man of the match for his great defensive challenges and for fighting hard for the ball at every opportunity. NM
Team: James Hannaby, George Thompson, Alex Macdonald, Krishal Maru, Kyle Ramkissoon, James Roberts, James Cox
U11E v Dolphin won 5 - 0
The E team played an excellent first game. Joshua Smyth challenged
Dolphin’s defence and Tom Houghton made some fine runs. Sam Cooper
opened the scoring with a nice assist by Joshua Smyth. In the second half
Joshua scored twice and Tom made a wonderful opportunity from the
half way line scoring an astonishing goal quite worthy of an appearance on
Match of the Day! The final goal was an own goal. Man of the Match was
Joshua Smyth who worked his socks off all game! NM
Team: Liam Samut, Jonathan Randall, Jamie Cole, Sam Cooper, Tom
Houghton, Rupert Parker, Joshua Smyth, Harry Herdman, Joshua
O’Donoghue
U9A v Ludgrove won 5 - 2
Yateley Manor played well, demonstrating great passing throughout.
Thomas Plummer-Colom and Thomas Shephard linked up well and
(continued on page 8)
Football Matches continued
scored two goals each. Ludgrove played with more confidence in the
second half putting pressure on our goal. Arthur Bole, however, dealt
with it really well making several top draw saves. Alex Padbury,
Lochran Rowan and Edward Shoesmith defended brilliantly and kept
up the rhythm and tempo. Our final goal was an own goal. The boy’s
performance was really pleasing, they ran their socks off, kept going
throughout and took their chances clinically and convincingly. Well done
boys. DC
Team: Arthur Bole, Lochran Rowan, Edward Shoesmith, Alex
Padbury, Thomas Shephard, Thomas Plummer-Colom
U9B v Ludgrove lost 1 - 3
A disappointing result despite an excellent consolidation goal from
captain Tom Garlinge and good defending from Lenny Berdat. The
team fought bravely but were, today, outclassed by a superior Ludgrove
side. LA
Team: Sam Fussey, Joshua Chapman, Lenny Berdat, Elliott Ganley,
Edward Houghton, Tom Garlinge
U9C v Ludgrove lost 2 - 3
The U9C worked hard during this match and played well together as a team. Our goals were scored by Harry Saunders and Edward
Long but the boys could not quite find an equaliser. A really good effort boys and plenty to build on for the season.
Team: Matthew Pygott, Jay Jay Kiddle, Edward Long, Harry Saunders, Sunay Patel, Harvey Myles
U9D v Ludgrove 0 - 0 draw.
This was a very close match in which neither team were quite able to find the back of the net. The boys all worked really hard and
never gave up. Great effort boys.
Team: Peter Savory, Michael Stent, Stanley Beeson, Nayan Serpant, Finlay Martin, Harrison Sivakumaran, Joe Seth, Jarosan
Gobiranjan, Samuel Forester
Wednesday Afternoon Options
On Wednesday afternoons, lessons stop for children in Years 3 to 8 and they are able to choose from a large variety of options.
Many girls and boys are involved in matches but for those who are not this is the chance to try something new. There are options to
capture everyone’s interest; artistic children can choose from art attack, cartoon club or loom bands and the modellers can be found
creating Tudor houses. Other options include horse riding, quiz club, smart club, Scrabble,
strategy board games, journalism academy and take your pick.
Loom bands is a new option which started this
term for children in Years 5 to 8. It is run by
Antonia Robinson and the children have been
making a range of items from a pencil case to a
very long string of bands, pictured here.
Years 3 and 4 have their own options programme
with activities which are all tailored to encourage
children to develop a learning skill. This year these
include drama and music, loom band making to
improve with hand/eye coordination, stitching,
construction in which they work towards a
specific design brief, art skills, thinking games to
help with visual and spacial perception, puppet
making, Italian, cookery and chess.
Options is a great opportunity for the children to
have a relaxing and fun afternoon while learning
a new skill.
