For three Wednesday afternoons after half term, the children will be offered the chance to try a sport that is both new and challenging. The Sports Department have selected a wide range of activities some of which will take place at Yateley Manor and others will be held at other local venues. Activities inlcude judo, archery, water polo, mountain biking, golf, orienteering, squash and fitness, boys’ hockey, and girls’ touch rugby.. We hope that this will be an exciting and popular venture which will widen the children’s sporting education. Who knows, perhaps the carousel will spark an interest, which will become a passion and maybe develop a future Olympian! Welcome to .... Callum Coxhead who has joined the Nursery this week. We hope that he enjoys his time at Yateley Manor. M.Tech - Project Hip Hop We have just received the results of last term’s M.Tech project called ‘Project Hip Hop’. The aim of Project Hip Hop was to learn all about what is involved in putting together a Hip Hop song. The children were busy creating catchy tunes and beats, whilst utilising their lyrical skills in writing and recording their own raps. The project gave them the opportunity to develop their understanding of rhythm and melody in creating their own unique instrumental parts and to explore timbre by using a powerful sound module. They further familiarised themselves with the keyboard, discovering new techniques, as well as learning how to record with a microphone. M:tech have selected the winning track from the term and we are pleased to announce that Joe Bowman and Reuben Overton have been awarded ‘Track of the Term’. This term we are excited about the launch of ‘Project Soundscape’ which will involve the children choosing from four different ‘worlds’ and creating their own ‘Soundscape’ by using music and sound effects, choosing from Space, Deep Sea, Urban City or Jungle! The children particularly enjoyed using ‘bossy words’ to begin each instruction! Mia Ingram was awarded a Headmaster’s Commendation for her very detailed instructions: How to make a jam sandwich You will need: Bread Butter Jam Knife Plate What to do: 1Wash your hands carefully under the sink with soap. 2Spread the butter with a shiny knife and don’t make a hole in the bread. 3Spread the red jam across the bread with a knife and don’t make a hole in the bread. 4 Pick up the other bread and pat it with your hand. 5 Cut the bread and cut it in half in a rectangle or a triangle Council Elected Representatives School Council Food Committee Sports Council Year 3 Amiya Rana Joseph O’Connor Frances Fogarty Sam Cooper Constance Bole Joseph Davison-Poltock Year 4 Hannah Butcher Thomas Ball Anna Ball Morgan Kitto Jessie Sheffield George Guy Year 5 Sylvia Gobiranjan Matthew Giles Emily Treacher Lewis Boniface Katie Newell Oliver Newton Year 6 Catherine Lee Callum Gamble-Smith Alex Thomas Richard Spencer Eleanor Mooney Daniel Ingram Year 7 Kate Treacher Michael Atkinson Lucy Webb Josh Stokes Elysia Geeves Joe Tucker Year 8 Maisie Hargreaves Chris Searle Kate Peden Harry Fogarty Emily Good Seb Francis Congratulations to ... To help them with their projects the charity would be very grateful for donations of : • Reading spectacles • Children’s story CDs or cassettes/audio books • Sportswear and football boots/trainers If you are able to help please drop the items into school reception. Thank you. New Fixture The U13 and U11 cross-country teams will be taking part in The Oratory School’s Cross-Country Meeting on Thursday 26th January returning to school at 5.00pm. Year 4 Rugby v Hall Grove U9A won 15 - 0 This was a tight game with both teams demonstrating good defence. Yateley Manor’s finishing was the difference between the two teams. Tries: Kai Corbett (2), Quinn Matthews Team: Oliver Kirkpatrick, Jack Muncaster, William Partridge, Kai Corbett, Quinn Matthews, George Guy, Stephen Moss, Oscar Smith, Liam Briscoe U9B won 25 - 10 Tries: Tom Hennah, Aman Ashfaque, Harvey Roper, Thomas Ball, Louis Foster Team: Hayden Gamble-Smith, Harvey Roper, Thomas Ball, Tom Hennah, Louis Foster, Daniel Murray, Aman Ashfaque, Wil Geeves, Edward Lutterloch U9C won 40 - 25 Tries: James Thompson (4), Jonathan Noble (2), Sam Roberts, Samuel White Team: James Thompson, Sam Roberts, Jonathan Noble, Samuel White, Tom Adams, Jude Brooker, Haripriyam Gupta, Ben Day, Jarryd Ramkissoon, Theo Attale Hockey v The Abbey U11A lost 3 - 0 With no floodlights we were literally playing in the dark. We took 10 girls so played two games of 5-a-side. Unfortunately one of The Abbey girls had no shinpads and so had to play in goal. This was a disadvantage for our girls as she was superb. Yateley Manor battled hard to get a goal and gave 110%. Isabella Bretherton and Chloe Wells were rightly named players of the match. Unlucky girls. JC Team: Elena Barkatullah, Isabella Bretherton, Chloe Wells, Lottie Washer, Eleanor Mooney U11B won 5 - 1 A really well played game. There were lots of accurate passes and solid defensive work from the girls which allowed them to push forwards. Catherine Lee made the most of her opportunities and scored a fantastic hat-trick with some superb striking of the ball. Deena Shawkat also found herself on the score sheet with a wonderfully worked individual goal where she went around three players, dribbled the ball into the circle and hit a clean strike into the goal. The other goal came from Libby Dyke with another well hit ball. Well played girls. Catherine Lee was named player of the match. RE Team: Deena Shawkat, Philippa Varcoe, Samantha Perryman, Catherine Lee, Libby Dyke Hockey v Farleigh U10A lost 0 - 1 Despite a very muddy pitch, our girls quickly settled into the match and certainly looked the stronger side in the first half. We had the majority of the possession, giving Farleigh only a couple of chances to get into the “D” due to great tackling by Sophie Gibson and Ella Haffey, good support from Lily Hayes and some great kicking from Katie Newell in goal. Sarina Bremner and Abi Heppner made some good runs down the wing supported by Sophie Gibson and Issy Harper. We had two chances to score but some good defence from Farleigh prevented us. Possession was more evenly balanced in the second half and although we had a few chances, somehow couldn’t get the vital shot over the goal line. Farleigh kept the pressure up and in the last few minutes scored the only goal of the match. A close game, with everyone working hard. Unlucky girls! Sophie Gibson was named player of the match. SC Team: Katie Newell, Lily Hayes, Ella Haffey, Sophie Gibson, Issy Harper, Sarina Bremner, Abi Heppner U10B lost 1 - 3 This was a very exciting game. Although Farleigh won, the match was very evenly played. Lucy Newell scored a cracker and Emily Treacher was a trojan in defence and was named player of the match. Sohini Long, Emily Hall and Lucy Newell were unlucky not to score a couple of goals each. Well done girls. JC Team: Purdy Wilson, Phoebe Moore, Emily Treacher, Yasmine Bowman, Sohini Long, Emily Hall, Lucy Newell, Emily Houghton U9A drew 1 – 1 From the whistle the girls got stuck in. They adapted well to the pitch, and on our second attack Gemma Lane scored an excellent goal. We had the majority of possesson throughout the match, and although Farleigh were capable of putting us under pressure, they rarely threatened. With only two minutes to go, the anticipation of a win was building when Farleigh made a rare break and, after an interminable goal mouth muddle, scored. Farleigh are always a strong side and the girls should feel pleased with their performance. RB Team: Lucy Tickle, Emma Hopper, Lizzie Roughton, Gemma Lane, Anna Ball, Erin Gauntlett, Millie Pearson, Iona Maciver: U9B lost 0 - 1 Our girls were so unlucky not come come away with a draw or a win in this game. They worked hard throughout the game. Hannah Butcher was awesome on the wing, passing the ball upfield to Sophie Allison. Eloise Ridgwell was named player of the match for a very solid performance in defence. Jessie Sheffield battled hard to keep the ball out of the net. Unfortunately Farleigh moved around in a pack and managed to squeeze a goals in . Well done and unlucky girls. JC Team: Jessie Sheffield, Eloise Ridgwell, Serena Lu, Pippa Arris, Sophie Allison, Hannah Butcher, Charlotte Mooney, Rachel Whiteley U9C lost 1 - 9 We knew this would be a tough match, and although the girls lost they never gave up and ran their little legs off on a much bigger pitch than we are used to. We were beaten by a much better team. Anna Sloan worked tirelessly, attacking and then running back to defend. Rachel Whiteley was quick and supported Anna up front. In defence, Jemma Thompson was steady and did her best to keep out the onslaught from Farleigh, but they were just too quick. After half time Emily Squibbs made a fantastic run into the circle, passed to Anna who popped the ball into the goal. Well done girls for your efforts and never giving up. Anna Sloan was named player of the match. LM Team: Jemma Thompson, Emily Squibbs, Anna Sloan, Katie Martin, Francesca Oades, Rachel Whiteley Hockey v Daneshill U12 lost 4 - 8 The scoreline does not reflect how hard the girls worked and how even the game actually was. Daneshill started quickly and had a superb centre half who fed the ball to their forwards, and two quick breakaways resulted in goals. We managed to pull two goals back through Elena Barkatullah to even the score. Danehill continued to press and despite Francesca Johnson and Chloe Day working hard to keep the ball away from our goal, Daneshill scored three more breakaway goals before half time. We kept battling in the second half and some fine play from Elysia Geeves gave her a goal and also set Elena up to score again, but we were unable to keep Daneshill at bay and every time they broke forward they seemed to score. A tough but well-played game from Yateley Manor. Elysia Geeves was named player of the match. RE Team: Kate Treacher, Chloe Day, Elysia Geeves, Lucy Webb, Francesca Johnson, Lily Hargreaves, Samantha Perryman, Izzy Cole, Elena Barkatullah U11A lost 2 - 3 This was a very close game with the teams well matched in every area of the pitch. The majority of the game took place in midfield with both teams creating some good scoring opportunities. Daneshill stuck first but the girls rallied hard and a fantastic run into the circle by Lottie Washer followed by an accurate strike saw us level the game. The second half was like the first, with lots of hard fought possession but another super strike from Lottie at the top of the circle saw Yateley Manor take the lead. We held on until five minutes from the end when a goal line scramble allowed Daneshill to equalise, and in the dying seconds of the game they scored again to win 3 – 2. The team played well and didn’t deserve to lose the game, unlucky girls. Elena Barkatullah was named player of the match. RE Team: Libby Dyke, Deena Shawkat, Catherine Lee, Chloe Wells, Lottie Washer, Eleanor Mooney, Philippa Varcoe, Elena Barkatullah Rugby v Hall Grove 1st XV won 26 - 24 This was a very exciting match which could have gone either way. Both teams made silly errors interspersed with some brilliant moments. In the end a superb conversion by Yateley Manor was the difference between winning and losing. Tries were scored by George Marchant, Blake Major, Joe Tucker and Seb Francis. George Marchant made three conversions. KC Team: Charles Maynard, Tom Coates, James Li, Matthew Jones, Alex Groom, George Marchant, Blake Major, Chris Searle, Tom Kirkpatrick, Harry Yates, Seb Francis, Joe Tucker, Ieuan Martin, Edward Morrison, Seb Waddington 2nd XV lost 5 - 55 Adam Hendries scored our only try in this match in which the boys were outclassed. Team: Joshua Baxter, Zen Marais, Ben Martin, Will Arris, Josh Stokes, Oliver Blease, Jordan Whiteley, Liam Ross McDonnell, Kourosh Abbaspour, Adam Hendries, Oliver Lowthian, Jordan Collard U11A won 35 - 7 Yateley Manor beat Hall Grove in an impressive display of dominance and team work. Yateley Manor came out of the blocks with all guns blazing, desperate to right the previous weeks game. The whole team worked together to produce an outstanding try from Matthew Rudd. Alex Thomas then rounded off a flowing move to score in the corner leaving Hall Grove a little shell shocked. Patrick Ellis added tries to the tally and Harvey Marchent also crashed over. Hall Grove never gave up and tackled to the end. This was an impressive team display with great flowing rugby enjoyed by the watching crowd. TM Tries: Patrick Ellis (2), Matthew Rudd, Alex Thomas, Harvey Marchant. Conversions: Matthew Rudd (5) Team: Callum Gamble-Smith, Louis Sims, Allbert Ismagilov, Harvey Marchant, Patrick Ellis, Alex Ball, Matthew Rudd, Ollie Waddington, Freddie Guy, Alex Thomas, Jamie Blackburn, Jayden Cox U11B won 37 - 5 It was a pleasure to watch the boys play such dynamic rugby this week. An all-round great performance with some stand-out efforts from Luke Allison, Charlie Muir and George Cox. Our tackling and passing was far better than last week, which is reflected in the score. Not a bad word to be said for our team. MC Tries: George Page (3), Charlie Muir (3), Daniel Ingram (1). Conversion: Luke Allison (1) Team: Ben Shaw, Leddy Al-Khalaf, Daniel Ingram, Tom Jeffery, George Page, Charlie Muir, Luke Allison, Tom Sloan, David Hilditch, Oliver Roper, Priveen Uthayaraj, Luc Vincent, George Saunders U11C won 45 - 0 An overall brilliant performance by the whole team. Dominic Watson scored four tries in the first half and was also very strong in defence. Will Lankford was great in the tight play stealing many of the oppositions balls and Sanjay Arulchelvam was the pick of the backs and scored a super breakaway try. There were a number of very strong performances in this decisive victory. LS Tries: Dominic Watson (4), Sanjay Arulchelvam, Ollie Sanders, Elliott Jealous, Jonathan Findell, William Adams Team: Dominic Watson, Will Lankford, Jonathan Findell, Joe Bowman, Will Adams, Elliott Jealous, Sanjay Arulchelvam, Ethan Cheeseman, Ollie Sanders, Matthew Harries, Reuben Overton, Josh Butcher, Harry Muncaster, Keshin Barathan U10A won 25 - 10 Hall Grove was the only match that the boys lost as U9s last year, so this was always going to be a tough game. Hall Grove started with the ball and from the first tackle it was obvious that the boys were determined not to repeat last year’s result. Yateley Manor tackled the ball carrier and streamed through on Hall Grove, quickly turning the ball over. After that Hall Grove didn’t really see the ball in the first half. Some great rucking and excellent support play from both forwards and backs meant Yateley Manor were 15 – 0 up at half time. The second half started well; after a couple of minutes Jontie Sebborn went over but the try was denied. The turnover resulted in Hall Grove, against the run of play, passing the ball wide and travelling the length of the pitch for their first try. This gave Hall Grove new confidence but the our boys redoubled their efforts and put in some excellent tackles, producing a very exciting but hard fought second half. AD Tries: Lewis Boniface (2), Charlie Warner, Ayush Bose, Jontie Sebborn Team: Jontie Sebborn, Toby Davis, Oliver Newton, Lewis Boniface, Luke Harriss, Michael Hills, Will Calder, Ayush Bose, Charlie Warner U10B won 35 - 10 Again Yateley started in a very strong and dominant mode scoring two quick tries. Hall Grove, however, came back and showed gritty resistance and fought back. A good performance overall. GB Tries: Freddie Francsics, Lewis Morrison, Adam Kennedy, Will Shoesmith (4) Team: Freddie Francsics, Harry Young, Lewis Morrison, William Banham, Reece Lane, Ben Hawes, Adam Kennedy, Will Shoesmith, Alex Webb U0C won 40 - 15 This was a great and very well deserved result for the boys. Yateley Manor demonstrated excellent team work and great determinaiton. Well done boys KC Tries: George Cox (3), Adam Brown, Alex Cockayne (2), Edward Nye, Boris Kempster Team: Adam Brown, Henry Bole, Boris Kempster, Sam Lalondrelle, Alex Cockayne, Will Smith, Edward Nye, George Cox, Harry Foster, Matthew Squirrell, Ben Smith, Marcus Marais Staff Profile - Jamie Macfarlane What do you do at Yateley Manor? I am the Head of History. Some people say it is a thing of the past but I think it’s a great subject! I was also Head of English for a year and still teach English to Year 5 and 6. What did you do before working here? I worked in a Youth and Community project helping young people onto the right tracks. How long have you been here? This is my fourth year but when I came to Yateley Manor I was only expecting to work for a term, to cover a medical absence. I enjoyed working here so much I haven’t left yet! Where in the world do you want to go and see and why? I have family in Australia and would love to visit them. I would also love to see a koala bear in the wild. What is the best advice you have been given? You always over-estimate what you can acheive in the short term but under-estimate what you can achieve in the long term. So plan ahead! What is the strangest thing that has happened to you? During the Jungle Book at the cinema, someone was actually sick on my head. I thought it was a warm drink at first but it turned out to be a lot worse. I was only nine at the time but it has had a lasting impression on me and I can never watch Jungle Book in the same way. Is there anyone who inspires you/is your hero? William Wilberforce, the great anti-slavery campaigner because his sheer persistence paid off in the end. When I was given the chance to rename the History room at Yateley Manor, Wilberforce is the name I chose for this reason. If you had to do a job other than this one, what would it be (regardless of qualification or skills needed) Pop star! I play the guitar and sing and have released a CD. Check me out on You Tube here. What is your favourite book? It would have to be The Bible. It’s got history, poetry, theology and philosophy rolled into one amazing book. What is your favourite film and why? P’tang Yang Kipperbang because it is really evocative of teenage emotions and is not full of ridiculous special effects! What music do you like listening to? The Vaccines and a band called The Rend Collective. Have you met any celebrities? I met Sting and said ‘Excuse me, are you Sting?’ He answered ‘No I’m Lionel Richie.’ If you could drive any car, what would it be? I would go for an Aston Martin DB9, obviously the basic version! Custard or Cream? I am an ice cream and cream person. Cats or Dogs? Dogs Money or Happiness? Happiness but money helps things along. Year 1 Sandwich Photos
