Located in Egypt’s remote Western Desert, some 560 kilometres from the hustle and bustle of Cairo, Siwa
Oasis is one of Egypt’s most isolated communities. Steeped in the legends of Alexander the Great and home
to fiercely independent Berbers, it has developed a culture unique to its Egyptian neighbours.
This remarkable journey takes you deep into the heart of the Great Sand Sea, to experience a culture and a
way of life that can trace its origins back to the 10th millennium B.C. Starting in Cairo, you will drive first to the
coastal city of Alexandria, to explore a little something of the city that was the capital of Greek, Roman and
Byzantine Egypt for nearly a thousand years.
Heading out into the desert, you then travel by 4WD vehicles across the Great Sand Sea, taking in the desert
oases of Siwa and Bahariya, with its fabulous Greco-Roman Golden Mummies and black volcanic sands,
before continuing across the Qattara Depression back to Cairo.

Itinerary
Day 1: Cairo - Alexandria
Start your tour in Cairo and drive to Alexandria. This afternoon take a
guided city tour of Alexandria including the Roman Catacombs,
Amphitheatre and Greco-Roman Museum.
Day 2: Alexandria - Siwa Oasis
Drive through the desert in 4WD vehicles, visiting the monuments of El
Alamein before arriving at Siwa. (B,L,D)
Day 3: Siwa Oasis
Full day sightseeing tour of the Oasis town before taking a 4WD jeep safari through the Great Sand. (B,L,D)
Day 4: Siwa Oasis - Bahariya Oasis
Passing through the Qattara depression, visit Bahariya Oasis and its
unusual volcanic black sands. (B,L,D)
Day 5: Bahariya Oasis - Cairo
Morning visit to the Golden Mummies and the Benouti Tombs. Afternoon drive to Cairo where you tour ends.
