in areas where larger equipment is not
practical. Because of their relatively small
frame size and versatility, Cat backhoe
loaders improve construction productivity
and lower machine operating costs.
Because Cat backhoe loaders provide superior digging, trenching, backfilling and material handling capability, they
can be used for a variety of applications,
including but not limited to construction,
excavating, demolition, landscaping,
breaking asphalt and paving.

Electro-hydraulic controls allow for engineering enhancements for the drive
system, implement controls, auxiliary
hydraulic system and loader linkage.
18 Product Focus
An ECO mode regulates the engine’s high idle while maintaining full rim
pull and breakout force capability, saving
fuel and lowering sound levels for the
most common tasks when maximum
productivity is not required.
The deluxe cab features two sideentry doors, low-effort electro-hydraulic
joystick, suspended pedals, tilt steering
wheel, air-suspended and heated seats
and optional security keypad. The multifunction loader-control joystick incorporates transmission and differential-lock
controls plus proportional control of
auxiliary circuits.
Two coupler options are available: a
skid steer loader-style coupler, compatible with most skid steer loader work
tools, and the Cat coupler, designed to
work with a full range of Cat buckets, optimized pallet forks and certain competitive attachments.
The XE Option
The 966M and 972M wheel loaders are also offered with the XE
advanced powertrain option that

load ratings for the M Series small wheel
loader models, versus the K Series, allow
the newer models to comfortably handle
heavier payloads.
Medium Wheel Loaders
Cat medium-sized wheel loaders
range from 230 to 392 net horsepower,
with operating weights from 42,357 to
78,382 pounds, and bucket capacities
available from 3.25 all the way to 15.75
cubic yards.
The most recent additions to the
line, the 950M and 962M, are powered
by a Cat C7.1 ACERT™ engine that
meets Tier 4 Final emissions standards,
are significantly more powerful than their
predecessors and deliver 10 percent better fuel efficiency.
The M Series models feature major
drive-train refinement, extensively redesigned hydraulic systems, new cab amenities, electronic payload measurement,
Optimized Z-Bar linkage that combines
optimized bucket performance with parallel lift, and a range of Cat Performance
Series buckets and work tools.
These innovative systems intelligently lower the average working engine
speeds and reduce the overall system
heat loads, delivering significantly improved performance and fuel efficiency.
20 Product Focus
Large Cat Loaders
Caterpillar also offers large-sized
wheel loaders, including the 986H,
988K, 990K, 992K, 993K, 994H
and 994K. These large Cat Wheel
Loaders range from 409 to 1,739
net horsepower with bucket capacities up to 47 cubic yards. Mill yard,
steel mill and block handler configurations are available. See your Cat
dealer for more information.
Caterpillar-developed electronic, fuel,
air and after-treatment technologies ensure that emissions control is transparent
to the operator, does not interrupt machine operation, and promotes reliability,
high productivity and low operating costs.
The hydraulic systems feature highvalue improvements. The main hydraulic
valve is now a mono-block with an integrated ride control section. The monoblock reduces weight, has 40 percent
fewer leak points and is common across
all M Series models. Auxiliary third and
fourth hydraulic functions can be easily
added at the factory or in the field.
The new ride control system has
two accumulators enabling it to be more
effective over a greater payload range,
increasing productivity and operator efficiency due to a better ride.
track loaders
963K | 953D | 963D | 973D
Tough and Versatile
for Lasting Productivity
Cat® track loaders are designed and built to
overcome the tough jobs, rough terrain and
tight work spaces. The versatile line offered
by Caterpillar® ranges from 148 to 263 net
horsepower, with operating weights from
