Backing a Criminal Government
Beginning with Operation Torch in November 1942 and the allied
invasion of North Africa, squads of American infantrymen spread
out to Sicily, the Italian mainland, and France, closing a noose
around Nazi Germany and liberating countries under Nazi control.
To borrow a phrase from Superman, they brought “truth, justice,
and the American way” to Europe. And in the immediate and long
term postwar era these Soldiers accomplished their mission.
Now we are in our 14th year of the endless wars. Our initial
success in Afghanistan and our continued presence in this hellhole
of humanity is being questioned because the New York Times
finally wrote about the unaltered truth. We are supporting a
Government, which we put into power, which condones its police
and army leadership committing acts of child rape – both boys and
girls, ages 8 to 15. Some of these crimes against humanity have
taken place on our bases! Our military leadership has turned the
other way, sweeping this under the rug under the excuse of “it’s
their culture”.
Finally, in 2011 two upstanding Special Forces Soldiers, a Captain
and a Senior Sergeant had enough. They were approached
by an Afghan mother who had been beaten by the local police
commander because she had complained to him about her son
,who had been tied to a bed and sexually assaulted for close to a
week. They went to his police compound and confronted him. He
laughed at them and shrugged it off. That was it. Our two Soldiers
repeatedly body slammed this excuse of a man into the ground
and physically threw him into the street. At this juncture every one
of you is probably thinking that the police commander got off lightly,
that our guys should have gotten medals.
However, out Soldiers’ leadership did not see it that way. They
were given General Officer Letters of Reprimand which were
filed in their personnel records. They were not afforded military
trial as the Army did not want what was happening to come to
light. These letters are a slow death. The Captain, knowing his
career was over, got out. The Sergeant continued to soldier-on
in good fashion, but late this summer he was identified as not
meeting the standards of a good performing soldier and is to be
administratively released this November 1st. He appealed his
case and it was denied. One Congressman from California has
asked the Department of Defense to explain itself and reverse the
discharge decision.
In my opinion, every General we have currently serving has
brought shame to the Army and Marine Corps, to this country
and to its citizens. They knew about these criminal acts and did
nothing. Our soldiers and Marines deserve much, much better. And
because we are incapable of giving them much better, it is time to
leave Afghanistan.

Patty Melts with Grilled Onions
Ingredients
8 (1/8-inch-thick) slices Vidalia or other sweet onion
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
Cooking spray
1 pound extra lean ground beef
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons creamy mustard blend (such as Dijonnaise)
8 (1-ounce) slices rye bread
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded reduced-fat Jarlsberg cheese
Preparation
1. Arrange onion slices on a plate. Drizzle vinegar over onion slices.
Heat a large grill pan over medium heat. Coat pan with cooking
spray. Add onion to pan; cover and cook 3 minutes on each side.
Remove from pan; cover and keep warm.
2. Heat pan over medium-high heat. Coat pan with cooking spray.
Divide beef into 4 equal portions, shaping each into a 1/2-inch-thick
patty. Sprinkle patties evenly with salt and pepper. Add patties to
pan; cook 3 minutes on each side or until done.
3. Spread about 1 teaspoon mustard blend over 4 bread slices;
layer each slice with 2 tablespoons cheese, 1 patty, 2 onion slices,
and 2 tablespoons cheese. Spread about 1 teaspoon mustard
blend over remaining bread slices; place, mustard side down, on
top of sandwiches.
4. Heat pan over medium heat. Coat pan with cooking spray. Add
