Istedgade is a
retention boulevard in
our cloudburst plan
But we were not able
to delaly project in
order to include
cloudburst measures
in the work.
The result speaks for
itself!
Harrestrup Å
• Stream/open culvert running
through several municipalities
• In Copenhagen the stream
runs through a green park area
• Lots of combined sewer
overflows
• Leading to bad quality of water
in the stream and into the sea
at the end.
Harrestrup Å
• Project to regenerate
the stream
• Cutting off combined
sewer overflows
• A more natural flow to
the stream – getting
rid of concrete paving
• Better water quality
Harrestrup Å
• We got money to start the
regeneration of the stream in
Copenhagen early 2011
• Set out to create a
masterplan
• The masterplan did not fully
integrate climate change
adaptation
Harrestrup Å
• The cloudburst plan for this
water catchment showed
that we needed to do
readjustments
• Still we did not stop work on
the masterplan – because of
the city’s focus on speedy
implementation of
construction projects
Harrestrup Å
• Other municipalities realised their need for using the stream
for stormwater outlets in their adaptation work
• A new project on the joint capacity for the stream as a
storm water catchment was initiated
• And it was not until this point that we decided to postpone
the work with the masterplan.
• Result – a lot of time and money wasted because large
parts of the masterplan has to be reworked.
Kornblomstparken
• Part private – part public
space
• Needed mutual agreement
between city, utility and
private housing company
• After 2 years of working on
an agreement – the housing
company decided to jump
ship the day before the final
deadline
The missing 134,385,121 euro
• Investment analysis – one of
the key goals was to
recalculate the total costs prior
to the political discussions
• Under close scrutiny from our
financial administration
• The day before the final
meeting with their CEO
• Ooopsss – the utility had
”forgotten” to include some of
the costs of disconnecting
private households
• Result: a 10% rise in the total
costs
