Most of you have your Corvettes all nice an cozy with one or two car Chairman’s Message covers to get thru the coldBy winter months. John DeGregory In Greensburg I still see a fair amount of late model Corvettes being driven as of this date. We haven’t had any snow! Our chapter had a large turnout for our annual banquet and membership meeting at The Willow Room a month ago. The food was absolutely outstanding as was the service and elegant banquet room. We thank Paul DiSanto for his hard work in arranging this affair Your chairman selected two members that received an award for outstanding service to the Pittsburgh Tri-State Chapter of NCRS for 2015. Bill Bryan and Paul DiSanto received that award. Not to say that a lot of you didn’t pour your heart into help as achieve another successful year and on our wall to A Top Flight chapter award. See your 2016 Membership Booklet for most of the upcoming events for this year. Don and Judy Geary did a fine job on this booklet. Those of you that did not attend the banquet were mailed one. It’s hard to keep up with all the Corvettes you buy and sell and email changes. So let us know if that is the case. First event of the year is March 13that John Kuhns Garage in Latrobe, PA. John is a gracious host and has us back often to his old gas station type garage and showroom, and restaurant. I. This is a combination Judging seminar and also a Technical seminar coordinated by Bill Bryan and John. It is with great sadness to report that long time NCRS member and CCWP member Ed Shablik passed away early January after a long illness. Ed was a board membe, a friend, and outstanding member of our chapter. Also one of the nicest guys you would want to meet. He had an auto repair business for an eon and will be missed by all. Ed had a passion for Corvettes and most any other car. We will miss our friend. May he rest in peace with our Lord and watch over us. Our chapter has a board meeting the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Lamplighter in Delmont. Meeting is open to all members. We invite you to attend those meetings to see what goes into entertaining our membership and keep the chapter running. We most certainly would love to have you get involved and help us. Look forwarding to seeing you soon. John E. We have done unexpectedly well with a Local (Tri-State) Top Flight, 2 Regional Top Flights, Bloomington Gold Certification and Corvette Carlisle NCRS Gallery in August. We had a good 3 days at Carlisle with a great NCRS Gallery indoor display outside of the main gate. Our plan was to haul our '54 to Wisconsin the second week of September for the difficult NCRS Performance Verification Judging. Even on the best of days, passing that test is difficult with these older cars and also mandatory for qualification for Dontov Award consideration. The Sunday before departing for Wiconsin the vacuum wiper motor died and in road tests, had a gasket oil leak we couldn't find so we cancelled the trip knowing that would be an immediate failure of the PV. Over the summer we looked into qualifying for some of the various Concours d'elegance shows on the east coast just for the fun of it. We were surprise to get accepted into the prestigious Hilton Head Concours d'elegace show for Oct. 2016 and the Edison Concours show in October of this year in New Jersey. Knowing the concours shows are pretty top notch in terms of car quality and difficulty to get accepted we also knew we didn't know what we were doing!! So off we went to have some fun. We got our period '50 clothes out, hard to believe I had most of it in my closet!! Owners tend to dress for their car's year. Wow, were we blown away with the cars there!! Ninety five cars, three Pebble Beach Concours Best of Show Cars, 5 Pebble Beach Class Winner's or participants, and several Hershey Concours Class Winners in attendance. Our class had two 1 of 1 ever produced cars 1953 Cadillac. We were the only Vette in dance. To our shock surprise we were one of the two Award of Excellence our class following the Best of Class, Chrysler Imperial,1 of 1 car. That put us awards parade that proceeded through Edison's estate portico to receive our bon. What a neat experience and check off!! We had a great time playing day! and a 1 of 7 attenawarded Ribbons in 1958 in the Thomas award ribbucket list cars all Picture is on the show field and on Carpet under Edison Estate Portico. Award Gene and Linda 10 Hi All, It seems I learn something new everyday and I am used to it but this surprised me. Many of you probably know this but I found it interesting. The C-5 and C-6 Corvettes have two fuel tanks. Attached is a picture, now I understand why it is so expensive if you have to do tank or sending unit repair or replacement. The driver’s side functions as a typical tank and the passenger side operates by pressure feeding the driver’s side. Robert D Cirilli 11 Sunday Oct. 18 Fall Road Tour On Sunday the 18th of October 26 members of our Pittsburgh chapter met at the Lamplighter restaurant on Route 22 in Delmont and traveled to Cranberry, PA where they connected up with other chapter members and guests from the local Buick club. They then caravanned 12 miles north to see the car collection of Dave & Karen Berg. The collection is on a secluded property and includes a wide variety of cars and memorabilia. The collection features cars from a common 1932 Chevy sedan to 1900’s electric vehicles, three wheelers and his own taxi cab. There are several Rolls Royce’s and Mercedes. There was a wood sided school bus and an antique tow truck. Certainly there was something for every palette, except Corvette’s. Dave’s collection doesn’t include any corvettes. Also along every wall was memorabilia from signs to promotional items to parts. In one corner even a Tucker section with an NOS radio. There were three Texaco 1920’s fully restored gas pumps and plenty of vintage oil and automotive fluid containers. Lots of antique license plates decorated the walls. After touring the three building collection we stopped at The North Park Lounge for some nutrition, refreshments and plenty of camaraderie. The day showed us clear skies, rain and even a little snow but from Ohio to Altoona, the Corvettes rolled in. It was a fun filled but chilly day with a little different slant on the car hobby.
