Nooni Hatsfelt Baker Naomi Baker, assistant professor at Wilkes University, was recently honored at the 44th KennedyCenter American College Theater Festivalwith an award acknowledgingher extraordinary respondentwork and her dedicationto KCACTF Regionll. Professor Baker attended this festival at lndiana Universityof Pennsylvaniaon Jan. 11-i5with rl students and Professor Joe Dawson.KCACTFis a nationwideorganizationwith eight regions.The festival'smain purpose is to celebrateand encourage collegetheater. The chair of Regionll, Elizabethvan den Berg, initiallyapproachedNaomi about creating an Actingr/DirectingTask Force. To familiarizeherself with the region,Naomi traveled,viewed shows and presentedfeedback to over 30 productions in the past five years. In addition to chairingthe Acting/ DirectingTask Force,Naomi created a new initiative within Regionll this year called"The Project for DevisedTheatre." "Devisedtheatre," also called "ensemble"or "collaborativetheatre," is a piece of theatre created by an ensemblewithout benefit of a formal script. The trip to KCACTFRegionalFestivalwas funded in part by a grant from the Wilkes MentorshipTask Force.
