Pleasure comes after pain, and pain is followed again by pleasure. Learn to tolerate the blows of time with patience. Enjoy both the joys as well as the sorrows of life. Sow the seed of hope in the soil of sorrow. Find your way in the darkness of the night of adversity with the torch of the scriptures and faith in God. There would be no opportunities if there were no problems. Opportunity lies in the middle of difficulties. The students passed on the secrets of Vedas in the similar fashion to their disciples when they became guru. Eventually, this tradition came to be called Vedanta, which means "the conclusion “saransh” of the Vedas." The texts of those teachings are called Upanishads. - Anil Kapoor Upanishads contemplated upon the various mysteries of life and its creation. The Upanishads beautifully describe the mystery of the universe and questions like, who is “Brahm (the supreme being)”, what is “atman (one true self) and death, difference between dwaite (duality) and adwaite (singularity). The Upanishads explain these philosophies using stories, traditions and dialogue. The Upanishads unfold the fascinating tale of creation, life, the essence of life and of that beyond to the seeker of truth. These ideas are expressed in the famous saying tat tvam asi — "That thou art." Although there are over two hundred Upanishads, only fifteen are considered principal Upanishads. The rest were written later and are related to the Puranic worship of Shiva, Shakti, and Vishnu. The oldest and longest of the Upanishads are the Brihad-Aranyaka and the Chandogya. One of the most famous verses from the Upanishads: An early 19th century manuscript of the Rigveda Asato ma sad gamaya (From the unreal lead me to the real) Tamaso ma jyotir gamaya (From darkness lead me to light) Mrityor ma amritam gamaya (From death lead me to immortality) Dwarkamai is a recognized non-profit, tax-exempt organization under IRS code section 501(c)(3). About 50 devotees registered during the bone marrow drive. His South Asian ancestry meant the odds of finding a matching donor were slim. More than 100 drives were organized by Amit’s friends, family and strangers all over the country. Fortunately, in Jan 2012, Amit found a 10/10 matched donor and started treat- ment at the Dana Farber hospital in Boston. The identity of the donor is not known. Every year many South Asian patients are diagnosed with blood-related diseases. In order to survive, Amit and many other patients need a bone marrow transplant from a matching donor. Nearly 30% of patients will find a matching donor within their families. The remaining 70% must search for an unrelated donor. Unfortunately, a very small percentage (only 1%) of South Asians (Indians, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans and Bangladeshis) are registered to be marrow donors in the National Marrow Donor Registry. So the chance of finding a perfect match is very small. That makes it very important for South Asians to register as bone marrow donors. Poornimaji is a senior disciple of Maharanyam Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji and is an excellent public speaker who has undertaken a detailed study of the Srimad Bhagavatam, the Ramayana, and the Bhagavad Gita. The evening began with the chanting of the Hare Rama Kare Krishna ma- hamantra by all the devotees present. During the discourse Poornimaji narrated a story from the Upanishads and drove home the point that the true nature of one’s self cannot be discovered but by the grace of the Guru. Instances and episodes from the lives of great Mahatmas were recounted to show how the Guru comes in search of a true seeker and picks up the soul. Poornimaji also gave a beautiful narration of the story from Sai Satcharitra about how Sai Baba explained to Nanasaheb Chandorkar a Shloka from Bhagavad Gita that shows how a seeker should approach and offer Seva at the feet of the Guru. -Ram Pravesh Prasad The talk was arranged by Shri Narayanji from Global Organization of Divinity, USA. Our humble pranams and gratitude to Narayanji and Poornima ji for bringing forth this program at Baba's place.
