If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason,
please call the school office at 356-5890 before 8:15 AM. Feel free
to leave a message on our voice mail if you call before 7:15 AM.
Tardy Students:
The first bell rings at 8:00 and the tardy bell at 8:10.
It is important that they’re in the classroom when
the 2nd bell rings. If they’re tardy they will miss
the morning announcements from Mr. Shea which
includes important information for the day. If
your child will be late for any reason please
call the school. After the 2nd bell rings parents have to come
into the office and sign their child in. Tardy students need a
pass from the office to give to their teacher.

OUR STUDENTS ARE “PAW” SOME
PLANNING FOR CLASSROOMS ASSIGNMENTS
This is the time of year when plans are starting to be made for the next school year. The first question that
comes to peoples' mind is "Who will be in whose room?" It is my impression that an increasing number of
parents are making request for teachers for their children. There is some randomness involved in the
preparation of the class list but there is also a great deal of time and effort expended in developing the class
list.
Everything that the teacher has learned about the students while working with them
during the past year is drawn upon. Having a large number of parent requests limits
the flexibility we need in developing next year's class list.
Priority will be given in this order:
1. Equal placement of special education students for all teachers.
2. Teacher recommendations based on student’s learning styles and next year’s
teacher’s teaching styles.
3. Equal gender ratios for both classes.
4. Equal amount of students with behavior problems.
5. Parental requests.
Parents may have legitimate reasons for a child to have a certain teacher. No teacher is best for every child.
When necessary, this request needs to be made by parents. What we need to avoid is students collaborating
with their friends and then influencing their parents to make requests simply for the purpose of guaranteeing
combinations with their circle of friends. Serious consideration of more important factors must take
precedence over comparatively superficial considerations. New combinations and new relationships are
important growth opportunities. The start of each new school year, in a new classroom with new classmates
and new teacher, helps children learn to adapt and make new positive relationships. Please don't succumb to
your children's request for reasons such as these.
Request forms must be picked up from the office if you feel a need to request a particular teacher for your
child. All requests must be in writing and request forms will not be given to students.
All requests are due in the office by Friday, May 1.
It becomes extremely difficult to accommodate a late parent request after we start developing the class lists.
We will notify parents whenever requests cannot be honored. This process will be completed by the end of
the school year and final announcements will be made at registration in August. If you have any questions,
please call me.

Physicals for 2015 – 2016 School Year
Athletes and parents are reminded that in order to practice and participate in a sport, we must have the
clearance form from this year’s physical on file. The NDHSAA has decided that every athlete needs a
new physical each school year. That means to participate in a sport this year, 2015-2016, your clearance
form must be dated after April 15, 2015. The form is located on our website for you to download and bring
to your physician. Physicals are not required to attend a summer camp.
Registration Forms available at: http://www.west-fargo.k12.nd.us/schools/sheyenne/activities/
