WLLR Photo Charters, October 2015
Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway Photographic Charter Days Monday 5th, Tuesday 6th & Wednesday 7th October 2015 We are pleased to be able to offer a return visit to the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway for two days of charters using the popular combination of No.822 The Earl in British Railways black livery along with the line's period goods train. For this event, we have been given permission to put the locomotive into a lightly weathered condition to give it a 'workaday' feel and appearance reminiscent of the line's BR days just before closure in the mid-1950s. The locos were never @ilthy, so it will not look like a Rose Grove '8F' (!) but the condition will give the impression of an engine in everyday use. Built by Beyer Peacock in 1902, this is one of the two original locos that have worked the line from its opening in 1903 and were still in traf@ic when British Railways closed the Railway in 1956. Cost per day will be £50 per person, £100 for both days. There will be a third day on offer using No.12 Joan on the Zillertalbahn coaches, reminiscent of the early days of preservation in the early 1970s. The coaches were donated to the Railway in 1968 and Joan arrived from Antigua in 1971. The locomotive was built by Kerr Stuart of Stoke-on-Trent in 1927 and saw colonial service for a sugar cane company in Antigua before being repatriated to work the WLLR. The loco is in plain red livery having returned to service with a brand new boiler in 2011. Our previous attempt at recreating this consist met with dry and dull weather and this is a further attempt to capture the scene in sunny conditions. Cost for this day will be £55 per person. I look forward to seeing a number of you in Wales for some early Autumn narrow gauge action, hopefully some relaxed days with some excellent photographic opportunities thrown in for good measure. Please make cheques payable to the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway and date 24th September 2015. Please return to David Williams at 30 Clydesdale Road, Quinton, Birmingham, West Midlands, B32 1DP.
