The Inland Empire’s Corvair Authority Inland Empire Corvair Club INSIDE VALLEY VAIRS ♦ Tech Tips return with the help of the Iowa Corvair Enthusiasts Chapter ♦ A full slate of upcoming activities awaits on page 2 ♦ Another look at the 1961 Corvair’s advertising. Can you say SUV? ♦ A simple recipe for a great St Patrick’s Day feast ♦ Your editors talk about habits… Good and bad ♦ Classified ads for your convenience ♦ Wish someone a Happy Birthday Club Technical Advisor Needed! Perhaps you’ve noticed or maybe not… Our club needs a Technical Advisor. There has been no “Tech Talk” page appearing regularly in “Valley Vairs” for quite some time. Any member can handle this. All that you need to do is a bit of research each month. Hunt down a good tech column and submit to the newsletter editors by the 20th of each month. Plus your name runs on page two! March 2010 At The Wheel Well.. it seems we always have beautiful weather during the week and when Saturday comes to take the car to a cruise IT RAINS! I think I'm just itchy to go off and have a good time with the Corvairs on the weekends. Before we know it, we'll be having great convertible weather every day soon. There are lots of car cruises and shows to attend. Pretty soon here we'll be torn between one show or the other on the same day. Remember about SO CAL CAR CULTURE on line, your local newspaper and our newsletter for upcoming events. Before we know it, we'll all be gathered at Kregg Tarisky's place celebrating our annual ED CORSON tech day in April. Kregg has installed a car lift just for the Corvairs on his property. We will discuss what will take place at this event as well as others at this months general meeting. See you Thursday. Your President, Michael Moreno Didja Ever Wonder? How do they get the Chicago River green for St Paddy’s Day? Wouldja believe they pour in ORANGE dye? Isn’t that sort of ironic considering how much the Irish hate orange? 2009-10 Board President Michael Moreno [email protected] 760-713-3773 ViceVice-President David Baxter [email protected] 760-220-0212 Secretary Beverly Roby [email protected] 909-337-5424 Treasurer Tom Lugar [email protected] 951-741-0643 Activities CALENDAR OF EVENTS March 4th, 2010 - IECC Monthly General Meeting - Singh Chevrolet 7 PM to 9 PM March 15th, 2010 - IECC Monthly Board Meeting - 7 PM - At the new and Improved Casa Abney March ?, 2010 - Victorville Route 66 Museum - Info at Chapter Meeting April 10th, 2010 - 3rd annual Ed Corson Tech Day - Info in upcoming issues April 30th, 2010 - Capitol City Spring Fling & Mini Convention in Sacramento Info elsewhere in this issue May, 2010 - Riverside Show and Go - info and registration in upcoming issues June 20th, 2010 - Murrieta Father’s Day Car Show - Best show all year info to follow August , 2010 - Visit to the USS Midway in San Diego - Info to follow. Some good, some bad. Some of us have habits that are beneficial to our health like eating right, getting to bed early and getting a good nights sleep every night. Our personal hygiene and grooming are impeccable. We always exercise good manners and never arrive anywhere unannounced. Those are all very good habits and are to be admired. Then there are the bad habits… and we all have a few that we wish we didn’t Smoking comes to mind. Many people who smoke tobacco wish they could break their habit but find it very difficult, if not nearly impossible. It seems good habits are much easier to break that bad ones. On March 12th Tim is going to break the, almost lifelong, habit of going to work everyday. Diane and Tim Says it’s the easiest habit he’s ever broke. The Proper Way to Cook Corned Beef Start with a good quality Corned Beef Round… Not a brisket. This is so easy even Tim can do it. Put the corned beef in a large pot and cover with water. Put on a burner and set to medium until it begins to boil. Then reduce to a simmer. Let it simmer for 3-4 hours (sometimes more) until it’s tender enough that a fork can be stabbed into it very easily. Remove from pot and place in refrigerator overnight. This isn’t required but it will make it easier to slice neatly. Save the juice you cooked the corned beef in to boil your carrots, potatoes and cabbage for a fantastic corned beef dinner. Slice, across the grain of the meat and reheat in a microwave oven. Serve along with some Irish Soda bread and the carrots, potatoes and cabbage boiled in the juice from cooking the corned beef. Enjoy the best corned beef dinner ever. Tim and Diane Classified Ads These Vendors Are All Corvair Friendly For Sale / Trade THIS SPACE AVAILABLE NEED PARTS? Project Car?
